I'll be honest with you, I don't really know what that building is. However, I think it will go great with the industrials.

Hmmm, looks cool, but if I had to guess, is it a pier\concourse\runway? I'd be interested in seeing how it turns out...

I haven't able to guess what the building is, but seems like an industrial building and I hope it will be great as the buildings is textured.

Paulvmontfort, T Wrecks, Jason Leo, SilverCyric- Yes, it is a huge elevator, and it will be made to be compatible with canals/piers.

Here's an update with some new photos so ya guys can see more detail in the model. This update adds a new elevator to the terminal. Note that the colored materials on the model are not textures, they are just colored for building purposes. (: http://s1341.beta.ph...html?sort=3&o=0 P.S previews 3-5 on photobucket are the new previews in the update and the elevator is based on the general mills terminal in Superior, WI.

Do you have an idea just how big this will be in SimCity tiles? It looks freaking huge.

Rendering in Zoom5 is always welcome to get a better sense of your work. :golly: But the project is very interesting and starts well. I wait for texturing.

Previews 6 & 7 are on photobucket. All of the basic geometry is completed and the smaller pieces of this puzzle will now be built. Thanks for being interested in my showcase! http://s1341.beta.ph...html?sort=3&o=1

With regard to BAT threads in general and this one in particular, I'm going to jump in here and say that I, for one, am lazy. If I click into a BAT thread, I want to see BATs, rather than just messages with more links for me to click. I would highly suggest you use the image tags that are available via photobucket (or wherever these are hosted) and just paste them into your replies here, so that when people open the thread they can see the images you want to present.

Going to the trouble of creating a BAT thread and soliciting help is not enough - you have to make it easy, easy, EASY for people to help you. And why not make it that much easier by showcasing the images in the thread itself, even though they're hosted at some other site? 99.9% of BAT threads do this - text and image together in single posts. If people are clicking into and reading the thread, give them everything for which they've clicked on it in the first place as soon as they're into it.

You might think, "hey madhatter106, you're lazy for not wanting to click again," and to that I'd say, "yeah you're right. Maybe only slightly more lazy than a thread writer who didn't include the images in the first place." ;) Make it easy for us (the general BATting public) to help you - you want your stuff to be seen, then make it easy for us to see it...

GOOD TEXTURES ARE MADE, NOT FOUND.
(I get tired of saying that in BAT threads.)

My lazy side really appreciates these new, direct screenshots!

It also makes commenting so much easier because you don't have to switch browser tabs to go back and forth between the image and your comments. And if someone has a comment related to one particular picture, they can even quote it and write their sermon immediately below. ;)

It is a grain elevator, used for storing grains transported by railroad and it then stores and transfers grain to freighters

Did ya use dependencies on the lot that you don't have installed?

No this is just a test run to see how large the BAT was, I will try the whole export process again. :meh:

Update: it turns out I was just impatient with inserting FSH files, but I put it in the game and I'm very happy with the results. Some buildings were put alongside it to show scaleUntitled_zpse0b40e2c.png

Right now this has fallen prey to the many mistakes that inexperienced BATers make.

The ones that need most attention are

    1) the textures need a lot of work. In fact, there really aren't any. Texturing is one of the most important parts of the BATing process, and bad textures can completely let down an otherwise good building. It is common practice to take bitmaps found on the internet (especially Here: http://cgtextures.com/) and manipulating them in gimp or photoshop and personalizing them to your BAT. There are a lot of tutorials and examples in the omnibus and on threads. Someone who does textures very well is madhatter. He makes up for gmax's limitations by making very good texture maps.

    2) It lacks details in some areas:

The silo part of the BAT looks pretty good. You paid sufficient attention to the major details well there. However, the big brown box/building thing lacks any kind of details. The walls are just flat with nothing breaking them up, and it doesn't help that there are no textures on them. Go back to the modeling, look at references, and figure out what is there that you can add. Doors, lamps, windows.

    3) Scale (maybe)

I know nothing about grain elevators, but it looks like yours might be overscaled. It's really tall. If you modeled it to rl dimensions though, ignore me.

This is just a test run of the BAT and it is not textured or fully modeled yet, the scale is correct and the height has been scaled 33%

    omg, this is.. HUGE!!! o.O:O

Although appreciate new industrial buildings, this as it is do not match with... any one already existing I would say. It is just massive.

One advice I would give, given the modular structure of industrial growth in game, is to separate the model into parts, make the main part an "Anchor building" and the rest as "Out building" or as plopable version, so it would give us more freedom to settle this huge thing on the ground and more option too. if you don't know what anchors and outs and mech buildings are, let me quote T-Wrecks

Industry is divided into three sub-tpyes: "Anchor", "Mech" and "Out" lots. The three types together form industrial compounds that are treated as one facility by the game.
    • Anchor lots represent the core of an industrial compound. They grow first, and only after they have grown can the other two sub-types grow around them.
    • Mech lots can only grow next to an existing anchor building. Typical examples of this sub-type are storage tanks, silos, gas holders, etc.
    • Out lots also require an existing anchor building to grow. They represent outbuildings such as warehouses, sheds, storage buildings, and cargo handling facilities.

Although I believe that Mech can grow on their own (i think I read that on Sc4dev before) that's pretty much it.

Also, the texture need much work, they are too much clean (or maybe non existing?). right now it looks what it is, a computer model, not a industrial building in a city.

I don't think the building would work like that. IMO, it doesn't make the slightest sense as a growable asset. The only applications I see are ploppable industrial, static landmark, and freight rail station.
