You've got a great CJ here! Too bad I don't have time to read it all the way through, but from what I've seen, it is simply amazing.

Proves that you don't need huge skyscrapers and a massive population to have a successful CJ. Keep the updates coming!

EDIT- Ok. I overeacted that was still uncalled for to even post a suspicion.  Anyway I'll put this behind me but you still shouldn't post that just because we both have Pinewood as our city names.

sticksboi: i don't think you should resort to name calling, it was probably a simple misunderstanding.

comdude: also, pinewood is a name someone else could have thought up without ever seeing ocean point, so don't freak out on him 44.gif

anyways, i can't wait to see more updates to ocean point, it's one of my favorite CJs 29.gif

Sticksboi05: I've been plagirzed from before. Maybe I'm paranoid. But:

    1. I DID NOT SAY THAT YOU PLAGIRIZED, I WAS ONLY SUSPICIOUS.

    2. Why can't you send me a PM about it, huh?

Sticksboi: Thanks for editing your post.

Amryai: Thanks for the compliments, and you're right. It was a big misunderstanding, we can put it behind us now.

Sloppet: Thanks for the compliments on my CJ.

Don't worry Mikeaut, the wait won't be too long.

However, updates will be slowing down. I'm doing less and less SC4-related things, such as Simtropolis, then I already have been. I devote more time to my maps now. Still, this CJ will continue. 10.gif

Alright, some information on this City Journal's future:

First, I will not be working on this as much as a usually do. Updates will be less frequent.

Second, it won't be as serious as before, even though it never really has been. I don't plan on making the Table of Contents anymore, except maybe on every five pages, like page 40, page 45, etc. Don't expect to see graphics and very heavily edited pictures anymore.

That being said, I still do plan on extending the region, maybe in every direction. There is not enough of the region left to develop extensively.

So, expect to see some more pictures once in a while, with some new stuff. However, this won't be nearly as involved as it used to be.

    Thanks sc4frk. 10.gif

There should be an update by Saturday. I'm taking more of an interest to the game now. Although it is hard to keep up with a CJ with these CJs being so popular these days, I'll try my best to update it every once in a while. Maybe OP will be back for good someday, we'll see.

For now, any comments, questions, etc. are greatly welcomed and appreciated!

i understand your waxing and waining of your interest in the game i think we all go through it at some point. im just glad you let everyone know that this CJ isnt dead...

i cant wait for any new updates no matter how detailed they are... a good CJ can have great graphic but not a city up to par with it... a great CJ can be great without the graphic touch...

Thanks for the compliments TMS. I'm glad you understand the lack of updates. As for the graphics, you have a good point. I can remember a couple of years ago when no CJs had graphics at all. That's when I had my most success, but it's still possible to do well even without graphics in this age of spoofed-up City Journals. So, thanks again TMS. 10.gif

Alright, well, I decided to make an update to post here. This should be an interesting update.

The Ocean Point region is known for its excellent economy, fueled by the astronomical tourism and sky-high real estate prices that bring the rich folks en mass.

Here's a look at the centers of eight of the towns in the area, starting with the big cheese, The City of Ocean Point itself.

    OCEAN POINT-Pop. 176,092

Ocean Point is the largest city in the region, with a thriving downtown area and lots of wealthy residential neighborhoods sprawling out from its center. There is lots of waterfront residential property. It also has some industrial areas.

Downtown Ocean Point has these major roads feeding into it: West Bay Turnpike, the OP/NB Parkway, and Route 28. It has mostly commercial zones, although some of the tallest buildings there, including the tallest building in the region, are residential towers.

    dtop4ly.jpg

    NORTH BEACH- Pop. 63,323

North Beach has always been smaller than Ocean Point, and although it is almost three times smaller than it, this small city has a lot going for it. North Beach University (NBU) is a very good school, and although it has several smaller campuses located throughout the region, the main campus is located just north of downtown North Beach. Route 28 is the main road in downtown North Beach. There are several office buildings that reach heights of about 10 stories, giving North Beach a nice downtown that is not too big and not too small for the size of the city.

    dtnb6zw.jpg

    SOUTH INLET- Pop. 27,405

Downtown South Inlet is the second largest downtown in the region. South Inlet, a fairly large-sized working class town that has always been on the wealthy side, has two interstate highways running through it: I-68 and I-368. Downtown South Inlet is located just to the south of I-368, along Main St. in the southeastern part of town.

This downtown is kind of like a suburban office complex on steroids, with fairly tall buildings reaching heights of 10+ stories located right next to single family housing developments. Plus, almost all of the tall buildings are located on Main Street; very few of them are on other streets. Downtown South Inlet is important to the southern part of the region, including Crosstown, South Shores, and the Pinewoods. Many of the shipping companies located at Port South Shores, the largest seaport in the region, have offices in the buildings in downtown South Inlet. In addtion, this area's close proximity to Ocean Point International Airport, located just to the east of downtown South Inlet and easily accessbible via I-368, thrives off South Inlet as the closest major town to the airport.

    dtsi3qr.jpg

    BAYTOWN- Pop. 29,447

Baytown has always been an important place in this region. In the early days, when the area was being settled, Baytown was a major fishing and shipping port, and an important commercial center. Today, Baytown is more of a residential town than not, with industry the southern part of town, although downtown Baytown remains one of the nicest downtowns in the region.

There are only a few tall buildings in downtown Baytown, most of them located near Great Bend Road. The two main roads in downtown Baytown are Great Bend Rd. and Route 19, which is also known as Bay Boulevard.

The second part of this update will come soon. 10.gif

Looking good as always. South Inlet's downtown is definitely looking pumped up, although my favourite downtown out of all of them would have to be North Beach. Keep it up, and BTW, it's totally cool concerning the lack of updates.

Hey Comdude....What really catches my eye in all three of these pics is the transportation network.  I love the way you layout your roads.  Do you generally free flow the design or pre plan the layout?

    Great Update...

RHF: Thanks. I'm glad you understand my situation with the updates- you're in the same boat as me, so you know what it's like. 2.gif

    Amryai: Thanks for the compliments.

dhoppe: Thanks for the compliments. With the roads, I do pre plan some of them, especially the main roads. All of the State Highways, Interstate Highways and some other roads were drawn on paper before I put them into the game. The side roads were made by free flow. I do still have the original blueprint of the region, which is what I based all of the region off of, including city size and name, land vs. water, major roads, airports, and so on.

    To All:

Part Two of the update may come tomorrow. 10.gif

This update was awesome, Comdude! I like how you explained each town, especially North Beach, which was probably my favorite next to Ocean Point. You have great detail for each town, like North Beach University and which highways go where. Your lush suburban areas never fail to amaze me too. Really, outstanding work here! Can't wait for the second part of this update!

Thanks for the compliments, jacqulina and Mikeaut, I really appreciate the nice words. 10.gif

Below is the second update of the downtowns series. It may or may not be the final update of the series; I'm not sure yet.

THE CENTERS OF COMMERCE: TAKING A LOOK AT THE MIDDLE OF MANY OF THE COUNTY'S LARGEST TOWNS

    Part II

Let's take a look at the downtowns of four smaller towns in the region.

    SOUTH SHORES (Pop. 11,466)

First up is South Shores. While it is rather small, South Shores is home to Port South Shores, the largest seaport in the region. This is a very important town, so it needs at least a half-decent downtown.

While it has no taller buildings whatsoever and only one main road, Route 99 (The Avenue in the picture), downtown South Shores is known as one of the nicest designed and most easily accesible downtown areas in the region. To its south is the main section of Port South Shores, and the South Shores rail yard.

Residential areas are located to the north and west of downtown South Shores. Industry is located to the east and south of the area. In the downtown area itself, the zoning is for medium density commercial buildings. Route 99 is the main road in town, although several other roads are important in this area as well.

    dtss5lc.jpg

    PINEWOOD SHOALS (Pop. 20,488 )

The Pinewoods is the fastest growing area in the region. This area includes the towns of Pinewood, North Pinewood, Pinewood Shoals, and Pinewood Banks.

Pinewood Shoals is the furthest north of the Pinewoods. Great Bend borders it to the north, and it is located along the Pinewood River.

Pinewood Shoals has grown into a medium to high wealth residential suburb of Ocean Point, as have most of the other towns in the region. However, it retains a small, yet nice commercial center along Route 99 in the eastern part of town, just west of the Pinewood River.

Although a large suburban office complex to the north of downtown in northern Pinewood Shoals looks more impressive then this area as far as building sizes go, this area has always been considered the downtown of Pinewood Shoals and its most important commercial area.

    dtps9bi.jpg

    CROSSTOWN (Pop. 9,752)

Crosstown is the southernmost town in the region, and a rather important commercial area. As far as the number of jobs provided by its businesses, and the amount of commercial buildings it has, Crosstown has the most thriving commercial sector south of the Pinewood River. Its commercial zones employ more than 15,000 sims.

Route 99 goes along the coast of South Bay just to the south of downtown Crosstown. I-68 goes through Crosstown's western portion, and I-468 meets it in the northwestern part of town.

Downtown Crosstown doesn't have any large commercial buildings. Instead, most of its commerce is located in smaller office buildings on side streets. It is more of a corporate town then it is a storefront town. Despite this, Crosstown is still a very important commercial center in the sprawled out, suburban/rural southern part of Pinewood County.

Thanks for the compliments, everyone. They are what keep me going with this CJ. I'm pleased with the amount of comments recently, and I plan on continuing this CJ as long as they keep coming. 10.gif

To all lurkers who are inspired by this CJ- Please comment! I know that this CJ has inspired many others. The least you can do is reply here if that's the case, especially if you're using elements from this CJ in your own. Thanks, I would really appreciate that. 3.gif

The next update could come tonight. The southern expansion will also be coming soon (I know, I keep putting it off), but there is good news. I've drawn out most of the plans for the southern expansion, which will consist of a 4x6 area of medium maps. I also plan on extending the region out to the east to make the eastern border completely parallel with the western border. In other words, there will now be tiles with ocean to fill out the rectangle instead of having the jagged edges of the region.

Awesome work on the smaller, yet still important commercial centres of the region. It's great to see that the southern expansion is finally under way, excellent as usual!
