I experimented with a city and now have normal pollution. I noticed before that the pollution would dissipate after I planted forests over the entire city.

With this city I waited to see if time had something to do with it. First planted forests completely around and above wind direction of zoned areas. Pollution ate all trees, but Wasn't as dark as it was at first. Any medium income residential would start with "Ew, this place is germy".

Finally I planted all barren areas (no dirt, just grass and trees) and pollution just dissipated. Well into year four, I have to ask was it planting over dirt or the time that removed the pollution. I guess there's only one way to find out - start another city and plant over barren areas and see if there is any effect.

Added 3 screens from my city...health, fire, and crime are through the roof.

I have two police stations, one hosp + clinic, and two fire depts.

Is it the patch that's killing this city?

Edit - deaths are down to 66 a day from 131 last night...maybe new [patch tweaked something?

I think so. I haven't been building medium wealth because it affects them most, but I have noticed clinics and police are also affected. Fire seems the same. I haven't been upgrading either clinic or police until pollution goes away, usually about four years and it clears up.

That's an interesting take on pollution. That city I posted a pic from has been running for about 4 game years and like I said its the only city in the region. So I'm not sure what I'm missing. Maybe I'll have to play a little longer. I do have to plant trees about twice a game day. I've been able to keep deaths at zero with a hospital and a clinic but I'm still getting heavy pollution. I have a university and a well educated population. So if you can think of something I should do different I'm up for suggestions at this point. Good video by the way.

Ask yourself why you are building industry.  This isn't SC4.  Industry does nothing but consume tech and ship freight.  You can build a successful city without it.  There is no reason for its existence, except as eye candy.  Any factory that produces things that have value are in the trade specializations and produce enough money to deal with the pollution.  Commercial supplies more jobs and income.

It is easier to deal with ground pollution.  Don't burn trash until late in the game.  Destroy the dumps and use trees to clean up the ground pollution.  I have even unlocked the Lizard and spawned him in my dump to eat trash.  If you must have industry for the visuals you wish to achieve then be sparing of it and wait until you have a University to help keep pollution down.  A hospital with wellness vans will help, but that is expensive.  Trees will also help but you have to continuously replant.

It might be the fact that your city itself, since it is producing pollution, is the reason for more pollution to be coming in from the region. Your filing the region with pollution and it's getting sent back to you.

Maybe if you cut your air pollution production down to 0, ran the city for 6-12 months air pollution might stop coming in.
