    Starovo: Siljonostrov

    Starovo6.jpg
    Siljonostrov translates as Green Island, which is often mentioned in a sarcastic tone by people living nearby suffering from the heavily polluted air...

    Starovo: Kameno

    Starovo7.jpg
    The standing stones on Kameno Island was erected about 6000 years ago for, it is believed, religious purposes.
    No one knows who built them, but there are theories about powerful tribes wandered in from Siberia. This ancient people, whoever they were, definitely made a great impact throughout Europe, as their way of building stone circles was imitated for centuries to come..

    On Kameno there's also the old Dudajev castle, built in the 13th century..

    Wow, that's some nice pollution on Siljonostrov! Also, great use of Tower Of London and Stonehenge on the island. I love the unique feel of your CJ, I think it's the place names that do it.

    Fine work!

    Here's a question for anyone who visit my CJ:
    (I might as well post it here rather than open up a new topic)

    Is it possible to have the same name on different cities in a region without getting things messed up?

    Yes, I think it is. Or possibly only slight variances - like Moscow and North Moscow or Upper Moscow, for example.....

    Vaslavskije Ostrova

    VaslavskijeOstrovaLocation.jpg

    <ahttp://img175.echo.cx/img175/3685/vaslavskijeostrovadistrikteur9.jpg align=baseline>

    This is Vaslavskije Ostrova (Vaslavskij Islands), located outside the southern coast of Rodina.
    Population (included Vasov on the mainland) about 120000.

    Main residential and commercial areas are in Vasov, on Karjanka and Banjaka islands, and there are several towns and villages all over the archipelago.
    Industries and ports are located in Vasov and on Karjanka.

    The archipelago got its name from Petr Vaslavskij, a 17th century local leader, who constantly refused paying tribute to the Rodinian king, and is since then considered a hero in these parts of the country. But he was also a ruthless pirate, who spared no lives when raiding numerous vessels passing close to the islands on their way to Ilitj.

    Petr Vaslavskij was eventually caught by the king's troops and died 1669 in the dungeons of Dudajev castle, severely tortured..

    Breaking news!!

    This picture was taken from a passenger plane that due to bad weather was out of it's ordinary course:
    <ahttp://img175.echo.cx/img175/7021/prisoncampgray1py.jpg align=baseline>

    There have been rumours of a forced labor camp in Vladiseversk, a district in the far north.
    Conditions in the camp is said to be extremely harsh. Prisoners working in nearby mines at high death rates.

    The existence of such camps in Rodina has always been denied by Ilitj high officials, but this may be the first evidence...

    Thanks! 43.gif

    The water texture is made by Joerg (if I remember correctly)..you should find it on the STEX. The cliff texture is one of PEG's creations..I don't know if they are available anywhere now, but since Peg is reworking lots of his old stuff, they might be up for download again soon..

    Vladiseversk makes me shiver... Does the name have any particular meaning?  Nice port, oh, and where's the international ferry terminal from, is it from that Japanese site?  Anyway, good stuff, I keep enjoying this original journal. Zdrazdvuy, or nazdrovye... or however that goes.

    Vladiseversk means something like ruler of the north and is actually the name of a small town not far from the camp..the name of the camp itself is not known..  There might be more pictures from Vladiseversk and the neighbouring city Kholodno.. 1.gif

    The port is from one of the japanese sites (the ferry's got a Japanese flag!)..
