Do you have SC4 with RH or SC4 Deluxe? If not most of the downloads from this website will show up as brown boxes as the Original SC4 was made before the BAT so therefore didn't have the necessary tools to handle the BATs.

Ok, thanks. I was wondering why the files always show up as brown boxes, I have the original.

Getting rid of brown boxes in-game

by: Hordijk

This is a little note is for “getting rid of brown boxes in-game” that a lot of people are wondering about.

Table of Contents

1. Here's what to do

2. Further Problems

1. Here’s what to do

When you download a lot, there are sometimes so-called dependencies (other downloadable stuff needed for this file),

and if some of these dependencies are not installed (not installed in your plugins folder), you may have brown boxes

popping up in your city when this lot is being plopped/grown.

Therefore, always, before you download an item, make sure to read the item description. In addition, most of the

time there is usually a Readme file included where you can read of what dependencies you need.

2. Further Problems

Now if you checked both and still can’t get rid of the Brown boxes, contact the creator. Most likely he or she has forgotten

about listing the needed dependencies.

You can always contact me.

Email: Hordijk.Pim@hotmail.com

Pm: me

Brought to you by: Hordijk

Well, for me. When i download a file, I really check for dependencies and make afolder for the download and another folder for the deps. It's just to ensure things don't mix.

I always do the dependencies, but sometimes the dependencies have dependencies, and then sometimes the links are broken, so I am stuck with boxes. :(

Not if you do a little more digging. If you know what you want, be diligent and go hunting. Don't forget google's advanced search where you can specify the URL of the search.

On some older lots, the dependencies may have been consolidated into a set and individually removed. It is always worth a look at the creator's home group to see if this has happened.

I've done everything in this post and continue to get the boxes!!!

I cannot figure out what the problem is. EVERYTHING I download results in the boxes, whether there are any dependencies or not. It's been awhile since I've downloaded anything new, so i have tried to check for updates and cannot find anything new.

i have SC4 - NOT RH or DELUXE

any help is appreciated!

Have you download the dependencies of that file as well ? You mist download those dependencies and make sure if you locate those dependencies in your plugins. Otherwise, they will not installed correctly and the only thing that you will get are brown boxes. If you can't find those dependencies because of no links/broken links, then you must search for them. So many tools can be used, like our search tool, and your browser or search tool which is available in another sites like BSC's Power Search. If the dependencies aren't available here but in another site, don't worry, you can simply download them if the site doesn't need any registration, like SimCity Kurier, while if you must register first before you can download those dependencies, like BSC and PLEX, registering is not a hard thing to do and it is free.

The original SC4 without the rush hour (deluxe) expansion pack cannot run most of the downloads on the STEX here and on the other common sites (LEX, PLEX). The builders have mostly all been working in the Deluxe environment since 2003, and the original game has very few, if any, remaining entries on the STEX.

You should upgrade to the Deluxe Digital version (1,1,641) as soon as possible. Sources are GamersGate, Amazon, Steam and Origin. There was a recent sale on Steam.

If you do this, all the plugins you have should then work.

I've had the GDV Yacht Club for ages, and it works every time. Here is a list of the files:

GDVyachtclub

├── GDV Roscoe Yacht Club_ad8d9262.SC4Lot

├── GDV rycf-0x5ad0e817_0xcd9174ca_0x31000.SC4Model

├── GDV rycf-0x6534284a-0x0d70b729-0xad917617.SC4Desc

├── GDV yachtclub-0x5ad0e817_0x6d88ebc1_0x30000.SC4Model

└── Goldiva says Readme.txt

Every one of these except the .txt file must be in your plugins. You get a brown box if you leave out the .sc4model file.

This is probably the same problem with your other lot.

To recap: A plugin may consist of the following, all of which unless otherwise instructed, must go to your Plugins structure:

.sc4lot

.sc4desc

.sc4model

.dat

.dll (special handling here)

The readme clearly states that all the files need to be in plugins. I guess you ignored (didn't read?) that. In fact, you need not move the .txt file.

You need to spend some time in the Omnibus. The Omnibus is the member-generated comprehensive manual for SC4. At the top of the page, the Omnibus tab is next to the Forum tab. It opens with an index on the right. This is your best source for learning. If you want in depth guidance there is a Modding forum.

Please guys. Help me! i don't know what to do anymore. I've tried to reinstall the game twice; i've tried download all dependencies from SC4Devotion.com one by one and installed them, i've tried literally everything i could imagine and i still can't get rid of brown boxes. I've installed the mod that substitutes the Brown Boxes for colored flags but they're not gone yet!

I have almost 2GB plug ins and everything work perfectly. Everything... Except for those little "brown boxes" that appear in the houses terrain and streets. I think its some kind of tree or plant... I don't know. Please help! I tried to use SC4tool but i don't know how to indentify the missing dependencies. I really, really don't know what to do anymore. :(

Here is the print of the problem:

If someone can help me, please do. I don't know what to do anymore. Have everyone a great week.

That is strange, because those houses are maxis default. I suggest you to change the Plugins name become Plugins.old and then, start a test city and try to get those houses (Those houses will only grow in Euro tileset, change the tileset become Euro only, then try to attract R$$$ to come to your city)

If you spot them show the missing props, then I suggest you to do a to find the mod that may be hidden but change those props become boxes.

This is probably redundant but do you have the two default prop sets BldgProps_Vol1 and _Vol2?

Since you have 2GB of plugins, you will have a big job ahead if this is not the answer. There are no quick answers.

You should have tested each add to your plugins as you acquired them, a few at a time. It is easier to back out a few things and test them one at a time than to have to test your whole suite by my binary search method. Add content in haste, test at leisure.

Thank you very much, both of you, for the help. I have BldgProps_Vol1 and _Vol2 installed, i have Gmax and everything i could find. And i got it resolved. I realized that those brown boxes are the defeult Palm trees. For some reason, they were deleted from the game (Don't ask me how LOL).

But i got it resolved. I download BldgProps_Vol1 and _Vol2 and deleted Maxis Tree Replacement Mod from plugin folder. So i installed SHK Tree Replacement and the brown boxes were substituted by new SHK Palm trees. But my city is a temperate City, with seasonal trees in lots and streets. So i downloaded CP Palm to Lodgepole and reinstalled the Maxis Tree Replacement mod (After uninstall SHK tree replacement). Deleted the Palm Replacement in MTR folder. So the game recognized the CP Palms (Pines) as the new palms and finally the brown boxes are gone!

Gotcha! Thank you very much guys! :D

If you want pine trees, look at PEG's MTP list.

I had some box issues too. Revisited some older cities of mine (different regions..) and when i uploaded the city, I got a warning box stating a plugin pack was missing. The one was Plugin pack #7 (it said this) and one of my maxis municipal airport buildings was missing...then in another old city, I got the pop up "missing plugin pack #49" and found that my Adler Planetarium was missing, though the lot was still there. Never deleted anything, had the files when I created the cities..but it has been about a year since I last was in those ones...I know about prop packs, but never knew there was "plugin" packs...how many? Is there a means to download the missing packs?

Plugin Pack #7 is the Transportation fix which is an .exe that comes from the old Maxis web site.  It contains the Air Force Base.

I see... I don't understand how I would lose it, like i said, built the city roughly a year ago, played off and on in other regions...then revisited recently to look for something to show a friend (screenshot), and the error box appeared. So I scrolled around, and lo and behold a building off the air base was gone, and in another city, the Adler was gone. Never have moved nor deleted anything, its odd. I guess i will just be mindful of what I place, and just ignore it for the time being...and just start combing for files...Thank You.

Maybe that's the reason that I just have 1.4GB~1.6GB in my plugins folder instead of normally 5GB ~ 7GB. I don't have too much patience to be a "Dependency Hunter". I can say that some ppl spend more time downloading mods than playing the loading screen game :S

Edit: If I were a cosplayer, I'd like to fantasize as Simcity Brown box, just to be spanked by Simcity4 fans. rçrçrçrççrç

...I don't have too much patience to be a "Dependency Hunter". ...

That's one of the reasons I set up the Catalogue over here ... its had a few changes over time, but I think what you see now is pretty much the final version

http://www.citybuilders.co.nz/index.php/cb-catalogue

the aim was to index all the plugins regardless of the site it comes from, so people can check the lists and if they find what they need they just click the link and it takes them over to the site its on ... you still have to be registered on that site to download it.

hopefully it will make people's searches a lot easier

Yah, I've got that feeling too. I feel like brown boxes are a 'engineering marvel' in my cities, so I don't download the dependency required for that file, unless if the box overhangs. :P

On the other hand, I have a perfectly acceptable Plugins suite with no missing dependencies at 899 MB.  I simply don't use lots with very many dependencies I don't already have, and get along just fine without an infinite variety.  Everyone to his own taste.

When I look at a lot with more than a couple of dependencies, I really consider just how badly I really want this lot.  Most of them don't fall into the needed area.
