Runway length question

I just found out (reading this forum) my airport wont work on a medium city tile because it's too short for my 12k ft runway.

My question is this, can I build an airport that starts on one tile and finishes on an adjacent tile?

Will it still work?

Thanks,

Bob

Yes, it would still work. If you build a modular airport, the actual airport function gets fulfilled by the airport terminal buildings....

The only thing that could be challenging is how to line them up between city tiles...

Mandel, Thanks for the fast reply, Re: line up of runway, shouldn't be too Hard, I'm doing my hometown airport, Ontario int'l in California, pretty straightforward with a UPS hub in the south end, yippee!,

P.S. One more thing, if I had Terminals in each tile, would it still work? maybe as two airports?

Build two roads and build the runway between them. Melbourne Airport has a road going almost all the way around it, broken only near the terminals and maintenance sheds and the section in between.

You could always put functional airport pieces in both cities, and then yes, it would work in both.  Remember that every individual city tile needs a functioning airport (or a piece that acts as one) to feel the demand effects.

Hi, I too am working on an airport that sits on two medium tiles.  I found that the best way to line up runways and taxiways, like Wiimeister said, is to lay your runway, then surround it by two adjacent road tiles.  Make sure that the connection goes to the other tile, and you'll easily be able to line up the runways.

In terms of having functional airports in every city, I just started using simulates an airport tram that travels out of your city.  It's capacity is a tad low (10k) but you can fix that with iReader, or whatever it's called.  I recently plopped one of these down, deleted my int'l airport, and saw an instant switch in usage.  You'll need as well.

Shorts, I like to use the little energy thingy that extends your power by 5 tiles, don't remember the name, but short version, when I start a new tile, I place these every 16 tiles across 2 axes, so I have an X/Y reference and never lose my place from tile to tile.

as long as you have ravens in the tower, nothing bad can happen to the airport... or something like this.

I never really cared about functionalilty, but as long as you have these cool functionality-fake-lots used with custom airports, it doesn't matter if your airport fits on one tile or on 100.
