I have a city making 2M profit per month and have 8M banked. That is basically rnough to level the thing and place high quality stuff evertywhere in one go. I'm however not sure what to do next.

My city is

* Trading and electronics

* Population of 100k

* In a region with 5 cities (and an Arcology as great work)

* 1/3 radioactive. Do not build nukes - one quake and part of your city is fucked forever

* Low, media and high wealth each have a third of the population

* Most of it is high density

* Got a 70% approval rating (and no clue how to impove it - people complaining about healt, while I got 4 hospitals plus all the addons, same for garbadge)

I'd like to imrpove on population and approval rating, each of which I'm not sure how to do. Since other people are managing both, I must be missing some tricks ;p Are there any other goals worth pursuing once you have such an income?

Build steady and if it drops below 90% stop til you fix it then move on. My cities sit around 93-96%

    @Shiphted: good idea, will try that out when I build a new city. What is the kind of population you typically top out at?

    @g5todd: tried that, did not make a lot of difference, on either happiness or my budget situation. Once you got some real trade going, tax no longer matters. One odd thing I did notice is that changing all tax to 20% for a while causes population to increase?! If you keep it to long some buildings get abandoned, though population is still higher then before. That is so odd...

    anywhere from 50,000 to 250,000. Just depends on pure pose of city. Sometimes i like to keep it small while still doing alot.

    I just heard that if you plat trees in the radioactive areas it goes away faster: https://twitter.com/MaxisGuillaume/status/311026083040468992

    for me 100k population is small I normally build 300k to 400k cities, if you want a high population build tons of low wealth residential areas, my last city I had 1/8 high wealth 1/4 medium wealth 1/2 low wealth and 1/8 industrial/specialization with commercial mixed in with the residential, but very little of it and I have 400k people in that city with all jobs filled except 2k high wealth jobs with no unemployment (but I also have 8k people commuting in my city for jobs)

    @K3oki you have to wait 20+ years for all the radiation to turn into ground pollution (which trees help clean up)

    if u read carefully it says that 20 years after the fallout the radiation turns into ground pollution and then the trees help clear the ground pollution and not the radiation fallout itself.

    ooooh, misread that, sorry, but the rest of what I said did work in that city I made and I've never had to deal with radiation before cause I never build nuclear power plants, btw now I know how to deal with ground pollution, lol

    (I'll read it more carefully next time)

    How long do you guys typically stay in a city? (In city years?)

    Also, what kind of stuff do you busy yourself with after you covered the map with quality stuff and have a pile of cash to play with?

    @K3oki you have to wait 20+ years for all the radiation to turn into ground pollution (which trees help clean up)

    That is still madness - 20 years? I'm trying to figure out what to do after 4... Even at max game speed it will take what - over 100 hours of playing?... >_>

    I usually gather up a ton of money, claim another region, then send a lot of money there so it doesn't take so long to restart the city (but also shortens the time it takes to build the new city) or I build great works and import what I need if I can't get the resources from another city, after the great work is built it's kinda boring cause there is really nothing to do in that city anymore and I've played up to 4 game years in a city before, they need something for us to do once the great work is built and we're making millions of money per month, you could wait until you get $10mil so you can get the multi-millioniar achievement

    or if your really bored and have millions of money you could have fun and just completely destroy it with disasters then rebuild the city

    I think there's always something to do, at least as long as I've been playing it.  My city has 300k population, profit of $2M per month, and I have about $75M in the bank.  But I still have some problems I haven't fixed yet, so I'm working on those.  I'd like to make traffic a little better.  I'd like to have more high-wealth areas because they look cool.  I'd like to unlock that last upgrade on my University so that I can get the detective wing on my police precinct.  Once I have that everything will have been unlocked and I'll probably go start a new city at that point.

    I like to start slow on my cities, slowly add things here and there, check out the all the graphs and stats. I still yet to even reach 50,000 people! and most of my map is already filled up! I wish the city sizes were alot larger than

    they are now! I would post a pic, but I am not sure how to upload one to this site

    You can upload images to the site, although there's a limited amount of storage capacity (500KB per user). This storage can be managed using the Manage Attachments page in your User CP.

    For more storage space, you'd be best to upload them to an online host, such as Imageshack, Imgur or Majhost. Then copy the direct URL of an image, and paste into your post using the wyxXCby.png button in the editor. If you like, a free account can be created, allowing you to manage the stored images.

    When my cities are established I tend to tinker... beautifying, zoning efficiently, ensuring I cater for all wealth classes.... that type of thing....

    Im actually having a bit of fun tinkering with my traffic layouts....  I dont like buldozing just for the sake of it... so can be quite interesting trying to make traffic flow as efficiently...
