I started a new city in my region.  My 1st city has around 100K population.  The new city that I started has around 8K population.  Every day at rush hour there is a huge wave of traffic that comes out of my 1st city and into my 2nd city.  It completely gridlocks the regional highway all the way from the entrance to my new city all the way back somewhere into my 1st city.  I don't understand why there is such a huge influx of traffic coming from my 1st city.  As I said, my new city is small.  Only around 8K population.  There isn't anything special going on there yet.  Why are all these sims flocking to the place and completely jamming the highway?  Has anyone else seen this issue?

The city entrance is a pain in the ass because the traffic flow is quite low when you have a bit of traffic. The best way to avoid it is making every city self-sustainable. I know, how can be the game designed to share resources and the only way to success be the isolate the main needs of every city?.... well, you should ask to EA.

Anyway, if you still wanna share, you can try using buses o train to allow your citizens move, but you still will have your highway almost blocked.

Its either shoppers or workers.   As cars enter the city, click on them to see what they are saying.   Looking for jobs, or shopping.   More than likely in your larger city, there is either a high demand for shopping or jobs, so they are traveling to your smaller city for this.   This can be corrected by providing 'whatever' is needed in your larger city, so people don't have to leave the city.

Ha you think that is bad?

Region of 4 cities, 3 x 200k pop, one 8 k pop, started a solar farm project. Now I have cities that have 35,000 visitors for shoppers in one, 18 k workers in another, and on average 10 k in total in the other three.

If I where to add up the total for visitors on the 5 cities population tab it would come to about a million. I have a city that is right next to the second city and they are connected by a highway that is only a few blocks away. When I turn on the population overlay I can see the line of traffic waiting to get into the first city all the way to the exit of the other city, and all the way to the entrance of that other city, and beyond to the entrance to that second city.

See if there are jobs or shopping places that are attracting lots of outsiders. If cities are too unbalanced it will result in traffic jams that fill the entire region.

It doesn't mater because there seems to be bugs.

I have cities where I have extra $$ workers by the thousands and yet, I have $$ workers commuting in. I have a city that is short of about 1000 goods for $ shoppers and yet it has 35,000 shoppers commuting in.

Have same problem with my city. had about 374k and lots came to my town. lots of traffic and stock couldnt get sold. had to close hospitals and other specialized buildings to get enough not to go bankrupt all the time. also have the same queue outside town as showen on the picture.

seems if you close down the game and start up it sorts out a little traffic jams for a while.

Did try to put in more industrial and commercial zones. it also helped a little but on the expense of less residens in town now. down to 330k. now at least i get my gods sold and get a steady income though lots of traffic. still not perfect. all roads are at maximum capacity and have busses and shuttlebusses and so on going through town. passengers transportet is about 55k in the town right now.

My biggest problem is my garbage. cant seem to get it collected so the earth gets polluted. my town generates about 64k recycled and only 3k normal trash but i only collect about 13k recycled and under 2k trash. I have plopped 3 recycle stations in the town so far wich all export the mats trough 4 tradings stations

Any ideas how to get better collection of the recycled trash?

Did you just say 64,000 trash cans of recyclables? WoW, most I every got was maybe 15,000, and I had to build 4 recycling centers.

Trash and recyclables collection is what stops the traffic the most. When ever they stop, and they stop almost at every building, they stop the traffic behind them. If your have a high school that can increase recycling far more then a grade school, buldoze the high school and make 2 grade school, it might reduce the amount of recyclables created(but you might need to alos buldoze some homes so those people get reset on their trash production)

    You can try two things:

    1) Build a rail or a boat export system using the trade port or

    2) Find a way so that your import/export goes out and in at the opposite side of the city to the entrance that everything else is coming from. That is if you have 2 highway connections.

If you made your city at a place that only has one entrance to the city, well... only option 1) remains.

Simply cut the access to this entrance/exit for a while..You will see the cars on the highway heading to the next city or exiting the region.. Of course there should be heavy consequences by doing so on a longer period.. But it's so funny looking at all these commuters passing by and avoiding your city.   Re-establish access to the entrance/exit once all the highway traffic is gone..

edit: And don't forget to yell at the commuters: "So long Suc@$#&%rs"

I have a city with no water for boats and both railroad and busterminal.

My two garbage dumps with all garbage trucks can't reach around they all seem to be stuck in traffic, so it doesn't matter if I add a third.

I have got a high-density avenue in a T-shape from the city entrance/exit that goes right through the center of the city ...

    Screenshot: http://upl.io/y38b1w

My garbage trucks are connected to the high-density avenue and even so it seems they are stuck on the high-density roads.

I have made many Residental only cities, and only few of them have traffic jams, this one is the worst ...

To many buildings attached to your main transport routes (avenues)...
