You just build your road over the water.  The bridge automatically appears.  Same with tunnels.

Yes drag over the water and get the same bridge every time.

And you can't build bridges manually (for instance overpass) or tunnels.. If the terrain is flat, well, good luck.

If you are geting this error, you probably have a building to close to the rivers edge. Try deleting the building and giving a little more room for the ascent of the bridge.

Drag the road over as mentioned but then use the road upgrade tool on the bridge and you can change the bridge style depending on the road type used. There are only a couple of variations but it's better than nothing.  The suspension bridge is for the highest density avenue.
