I don't think we should have to cater to the game's AI quirks and say that it's unjustified to complain about pathfinding. Last time I checked, some of the roads and 5/6 way intersections in north side Chicago are pretty confusing, but I don't see firetrucks lining up at the fork of Clark and Ashland while the next block over burns to the ground.

Never have been a fan of Cookie cutter design implementations in order to deal with inherent inadequacies in a sandbox simulation game.

The whole point for me is the fun of experimentation be it failure or success, the process of watching the simulation grow and evolve, the act of fine tuning and tweaking to increase efficiency, or whatever needs i deem interesting at the time.

If there is only one way to make traffic pathing work properly then the simulation itself is the problem, not my creative enthusiasm for experimentation while playing a sandbox simulation.

Now i know there have always been issues when dealing with "Simulation" in a computed virtual space, and i also know i have not the slighted idea why that is, but i respect that people far smarter then myself have not been able to resolve it and so i overlook ultra realism in favor of what is fun and engaging.

I do not expect things to run perfectly and to always make sense, for the most part i enjoy the mystery of cause and effect sometimes apparent in these types of simulations, and the time it takes to figure things out, to discover and work around the quirks so to speak.

But (was told never to start a sentence that way) Simcity as is right now, at least to me feels very broken at a core level, i have tried numerous city's with as many road layouts as i could come up with and i still find much of the simulations behavior to be bugged to the point of me no longer having fun, yes i have gone on and created a city with 175k pop that was doing fine, but watching 80% of my Public Transportation force run in circles, garbage service maxed out and still not being picked up, firetrucks unable to deal with more then 1 fire at a time, power going out with massive MW surplus, money not being transferred to other citys, workers not actually migrating to the work, unemployment while factory's cry about worker shortages ect.... it became to much and wasnt any fun for me.

    Cheers

Edit: going to look into the interchange solution, as i really really want to have fun with this damn game.

The thing is the firetrucks gang up on one burning house - they stop the fire faster.

I don't know if say 4 cars went to 4 different houses, taking 4 times longer is necessarily better/faster?

Just started up another city, was getting around 5k pop when some fires broke out, plopped a fire station down to deal with it but by the time the first truck was out things were spreading pretty fast so i decided to take out a bond and get another truck, sadly the second truck just went to where the first truck was and then followed making it useless as they dont actually combine forces.

    Seriously broken.

    Edit.

Game is unplayable for me at the moment guess ill go back to SC4 for now sigh.

Honestly you just have a bad city layout or are trying to play it like SC4....

My best city uses a circular design, with townhall,  in the centre, and services on the next inner circular ring and the main avenue off the highway splitting down the centre, and I have over 50k population, traffic flow is very good, with tourist coming in. Mixed resident and commercial zones on the outter rings, industry, water and gabage on the edge of the city where the wind blows

Park and rides at all major resident junctions and at the city entrance and exit.

Have had no major fire or crime issues, unlike some of my other grid like cities.

My largest city has over 160k, with room to grow.

You need to have junctions for the cars to U turn, I've noticed

So, 'Your city, Your way' means nothing anymore?  This is what I've said from the start, the game focuses on competition instead of creativity, it's all going to boil down to the same thing we see in RTS games Like Starcraft, where you have an optimal unit build order, optimal base layout etc...  Sure you had an 'optimal' layout in previous Simcity games, but it wasn't fun to play with that layout, nor was it geared towards it, nor we're you forced into doing it to compensate for the archaic Pathfinding/AI.

Cant trust review sites, read the fan forums and Amazon for an unbiased view, also look at the Lets Play videos on Youtube, and basically just be patient wait for a few weeks/couple of months before you make a decision to buy or not. Do that for every game and you wont waste your money / get angry / have the hastle of having to try to get a refund. Has saved me loads of cash that has.
