Speaking of download time, does Simcity take longer to download now that it's the full game and not the beta or is it quicker to install?

 

Also do we have to have the game Update when we first start Simcity like in beta?

I would guess "yes" to both, based on past experiences.

 

The full game will include all art assets; betas often cut corners to save room on the downloads.  For instance, most games' beta versions won't include an opening movie, but the release version usually will.  Likewise, many betas don't include the full set of "nonessential" aesthetic elements (like sound effects or particle effects) for the testing.

(In some games, you can get around this by starting the full game install, pausing it, and copying over the big beta art asset directories into the new directory.  The existing assets won't be downloaded a second time, and a post-install update will check to see if any are outdated.  Not saying that'll work for this game, but it's worked for quite a few other games I've beta tested and has drastically cut down on the time needed to install large art-heavy games.)

 

And nearly every game these days requires an immediate update.  The simplest reason for this is that the download package is often what got burned onto the DVD when it went gold, a few weeks before release.  Given that plenty of last-minute testing gets done in all of these betas, there'll always be a few updates right at release.  And while you might have downloaded your copy digitally, it's often just easier for them to have you download those well-established weeks-old packages and then patch just like the folks with physical copies, rather than update the contents of the big download package at the last second (and risk something else going wrong).  But I wouldn't worry too much; while there'll be plenty of pre-ordering folks wanting to update right away, this isn't an MMO; the vast majority of the eventual sales will be people who buy it once it shows up in stores, and those folks won't be patching for a day or two.

$%&^! man, this needs to hurry up before I have an anxiety attack. LOL I literally took a shower, watched several videos of SimCity, and did research on this site about SimCity, and etc just to pass time, but now its not even available for download. My Origin store was offline for a while at like 12:05. 

 

 

Then I was thinking of using my $20 discount on Sims 3: Universities just for the hell of it considering it has an expiration date of like March 18th or something but this is what popped up:

 

 

Talk about disappointed in a way, but its ok considering I was probably only going to purchase it because I was waiting for SimCity to be released or in other words impulse shopping. 

 

BTW, my apologies for posting so many pictures as of recently; I'm just really excited about this game and unfortunately I'm like the only one that I know that plays this game. Most of my friends in real life are like college students/professionals and there too lame to play such a awesome game. lol

This is ridiculous. At this day and age we should have this all figured out. Im starting to have Diablo 3 flashbacks. I got my whole room setup and prepared for this very moment along with watching hours of videos! Luckily im on the westcoast, so I will probably have a chance to wait for all those eastcoast guys to give up and fall asleep, LOL.

this is why we should have been able to download it early....

But when u allow for an early download, it makes things worse cause everyone is waiting to push start at the same time causing the game servers to crash. The game servers are totally separate from the download servers.
