Serious issues with unemployment

Whenever I start a second city it booms to 30k sims and then all of the sudden half the city is unemployed. I've had this issue for years not, uninstall, install etc nothing works. I deleted the Industry Doubler mod and it seemed to help... for a little while in my first city which has about 60k now. I've set up a proper mass transit system complete with busses, monorail and also a proper road network. As soon as I hit 31500 sims at least a quarter of the city went unemployed, I built about 5000 new jobs Commerce, no change. It's so frustrating as I remember playing this game years ago without this MASSIVE issue. Does anybody know what's happening? Has anyone ever had this before? I mean, I built so much commerce that it looks retarded, and still I'm at 29900 since I hit about 31500.

Thanks a lot.

Do you just have the two cities in the region? If so I'd make a farming city and DI city ASAP to get more jobs created for the less educated sims. Throw some manufacturing in with the DI to get goods to your commercial areas and I would be willing to bet the NJZ would go away and you would actually have a higher demand for R!

I understand, but there seems to be something seriously wrong with my RCI. As soon as I started a new 3rd city to make it dirty industry, all my R was fully up and ID almost fully down with IH fully up as well together with all C. I don't know what's wrong with my game but something is totally screwing up the balance of my game. It's pretty much impossible to build any dirty I and manufacturing, only High Tech and commerce seems to work and all R wants to be high wealth without schools or even water.

*Even when I put tax down to 0 for ID it still is down...

Are you sure that you don't have any demand altering mod ? I suggest you to check your Plugins to make sure there is no hidden demand mod in it.

Farming caps out at 30,000 without mods, so farms won't grow.anymore.You can install Ripplejet's census repository mod (or additionally cogeo's chamber of commerce and industry mod if you don't like the building) in order to look at caps and demands. You may need a cap buster of some kind. You may also need the high tech industry fix, but that's just against losing rich inhabitants with the switch from dirty to high-tech industry. I usually hit the first block at 45k, but I use a farming mod.

In general, regional play helps. Play back and forth, because many caps are region-based.

If you want to bust the farming cap add SimGoober's ditch set.  It increases the cap on I-A and continues.  Also, consider using the SPAM.

And definitely get rid of any mod that skews the game's basic operators like demand, ordinances and taxes.

Do you know what the cap with SPAM is? I use that mod, but farms still stop growing at relatively low population levels.

I have to look at that ditch set.

So I just made a "dirty" city (well only manufacturing shows up really), I forced it with taxes, maxing all medium and high wealth. I went back to my 2nd city and it grew slightly to about 35k and stopped growing again even after adding even more C. Then I went to my 1st city, nothing changed there. Went back to my 2nd and pop went down to about 33.5k with Sims abandoning their homes. I put the Industry doubler back in the plug in folder, nothing changed. I have no other demand altering mods. It's completely destroying the gaming experience and it's starting to make me desperate. Should I throw out all mods and try again adding one by one? I don't use CAM for this reason, I had trouble with it a few years ago changing demand levels. Also, R is always up and never changed pretty much, but Sims are leaving their homes.

*I am using SPAM, will try the ditch set.

It  has to be one of my plug ins interferig with an other plug in.

    Thanks for all the help.

it seems like everytime I have a city with tons of commerical & industrial including plenty of transportation ( roadways, interstates, rail & bus routes), the residents refuse to work even 1 mile away. Lazy is all I can say...even knowing that gas prices never ever change on my citys :P

^ Now why don't I have these problems?  Let's see:  I always play on hard mode;  I never run in Cheetah speed except for the occasional burst when I need something soon;  I don't have a very large plugin suite, less than one GB;  I pretty much zone everything by hand;  I grow my cities from a rural beginning; I don't lay out street grids; I don't zone large tracts all at once.

Actually, starting out with lots of agriculture is quite often a good idea. This also means that you can easily spread out your other zoned developments as the fields provide for the power grid.

Well now Mr. Moose I have a city where I did all those things you mentioned with the exception of playing on hard. I have a pop of 136k and not a single NJZ and I'm making a stupid amount of simoleans even after I put in a few expensive ordanances and lowered taxes on the wealthy ( yes Reaganomics works for my sims :)) I'm still bringing in over 10k per month.

One thing I notice though is that no mater how much C I put in the demand is always topped out. Does C ever get sated at some point? I'm not complaining just wondering... Anyway you Da Moose :D

I don't think you can ever have enough CS$.  The game seems to be driven by that, and once it hits the ceiling, it hardly every drops.  I have had it happen on occasion, but usually not when the city is matured.  If you haven't, go grab some more CS$ lots off the STEX.  Many of them use 1 x 1 lots, and you can then zone and grow some interesting neighbourhood strip malls.  Every neighbourhood needs a CS$$ corner store and maybe a strip mall of CS$ as well.  Short of using the building plop cheat, you can't really dictate what goes there, but you've got a good chance of getting some other good lots if you have them.

I think that is a little extreme.  I often have a plaza or two in my industrial pods and I use some MMP trees to fill areas in them where nothing will grow due to the terrain.  I even have some trees that will grow on an almost vertical slope, but they count as parks.

I find it hard to anthropomorphize real objects let alone something virtual like a city in this game.

After uninstalling SPAM and deleting some other strange files from my plugin folder (I dont like SPAM because it changes the normal growth from poor to wealthy) my SC4 seems to be working just fine again. My RCI bar goes up and down again like it used to and it's much more fun playing it. Started a new region and I'm super excited! Thanks for all the help lads.
