There are lots of things I like about this CJ, from the region itself (it's gorgeous!) to the way you present your cities. Your suburbs are very leafy and Victoria's city centre is very attractive. If I was a Sim I'd want to live there! 3.gif

It was really creative of you to mirror real-life events in your CJ's storyline... I love how you did the exact reverse of the Quebec separatist movement, that was very, very clever. 19.gif

I think I'll settle for Proposal B, more skyscrapers would add pizzazz to your city.

By the way, is the northern part of the region (Province of Kennedy) based on the real-life terrain of Vancouver Island as well?

    Thanks for your amazing comments9.gif

    OK to answer your questions.

That is where I got the Idea from, Quebec and all..but didn't want it too similar..so i switched some things up.

And the whole region is a greyscale of the Victoria area.  I got it on the MEX and I LOVE it.  Its great, lots of coast, a harbour, inland areas, hills, everything to make a great diverse city, which will develop over time in Victoria.

    Thanks again, and keep posting!

OK heres the main distitrics of the Harbour Dstrict.  Population has surpassed 200K.

    Downtown
The Skyline is really coming along nicely.  Several new buildings were built since last update.  Several new buildings have been approved for construction.

    vic_033.jpg
    The Industrial District
Many factories, mostly High Tech.  The monorail runs right through it.  A new and huge dock was recently approved for construction, and will make Victoria a significant port.

    vic_034.jpg
    Harbour Pointe
An upscale low-midrise neighborhood scross the harbour from the Industrial District, and Downtown.  The new Cable Stayed Bridge  connects north and south Harbour Street., and greatly eases traffic on the formerly congested Vancouver Street.

    vic_035.jpg
    Country Club-Ferry District
Many mansions, Low-rise. It is the most desirible are of the city to live in, and the Farry links the Harbour to St. George , and new terminals are being built in the Industrial Distrifct, Harbour Pointe, East St. George, and QEIA.

    North Downtown-South Chapel Hill
Heres where Dontown goes to Low Density commercial and mid-highrise Residential.  Also, a sneak peek at the Worlds Fair site...hmmm

Nice region! I really love the Victoria map, as I chose to do my cj on it as well. I'm looking forward to your city growing larger so the excellent downtown will fit in a bit better.

I know..its like..2 victoria CJ's..Unfortunatley I havent had much time for development..but i hope to get a large chunk done tonight..I will zone like mad, place in everything, and just let it run..i hope to get in at least 100 000 more sims in over trhe next week, and hope some stage 8's pop up..to really get my DOwntown going..

    anyways..on with the articles.

Development Plan Chosen by City Council

Victoria: After a vote, 6/11 City Council Members voted for Chapel Hill / York Development Proposal B.  It would develop the Chapel Hill Commercial District to the north and west, as well as adding a vast new suburban Development, mixing in several midrise towers about 10 stories maximum.

This plan would add about 20 000 or more residents to the Victoria Metro Area, plus a huge development to the north in Manchester, along with several new highrises and expansions in the newly incorporated distircs of York and Belvedere(just north of St. George might bring up the population of Victoria to a quarter million (250 000) within the next year.

Tremors Offshore Alert City of Victoria
Victoria: about 1 km south of the City of Victoria, a magnitude 4.1 earthquake was felt by a Seismic Bouy at roughly midnight last night. The Kennedy Faultline was the cause of the quake, whos epicenter was located just under a kilometer offshore. officials say it may be a precursor to a larger event, but this most likely is just the fault relieving pressure.

Faults build up pressure over time, and the <Kennedy> Faultline is just moving that.  Instead of being worried, the public should feel relieved that it releases slowly and more often rather than violently and less often said Victoria Environmental Center head of the Seismic Dep't Jason Clarke.

The only damage reported was a window shattering at QEIA, caused from a faulty sheet of glass that was broken by the slight tremors.

    BREAKING NEWS:

A Magnitude 7.2 Earthquake has just struck the Kennedy Faultline, several kilometers offshore.  No major damage to buildings has been reported, but it is very possible a Tsunami may strike the southern Victoria Coastline.

the Harbour District, St. George, the Queen Business Park, Queen Elizabeth International Airport, and Manchester are all under evacuation.  If you live in one of these areas, please proceed to your assigned Evacuation Center in York, or Chapel Hill.

Although the earthquake is over, aftershocks are a possibility.  If you feel any shaking, move to a safe place.

Tsunami Levels QEIA: 1 Dead and 1 Missing in Labour Day Tidal Wave

Victoria, Sept. 06/04: At approximatley 2.30 PM, a Magnitude 7.2 earthquake rattled the region.  Although structural damage is minimal, none reported destroyed, the earthquake pushed up tons of water, and forced it north towards the South Victoria Coast region.  As it reached the Coast, much of it only reached 10 feet inland.  At QEIA, the trench used to create the island caused the water to funnel the wave towards the Airport.  The height it had (which it was planned for originally) caused it to lessen the damage, but much of the land is destoryed and washed away with the wave.

The airport is Irrepairable.  We will have to salvage what we can, level the land and start over again. Said Victoria Airports Spokesperson Joanne Richardson.  The city is also fortunate that although highways and bridges were flooded, none sustained serious damage, and are expected to be up and running tommorow.

York, an evacuation center had its tense moments.  Here is a quote from an evacuee.
We saw the surge coming down the channel. (The one that goes from the harbour to this lake thing).   We thought it might flood York too, but thankfully it stopped.  We also saw the wall of water made when the wave hit the QEIA Seawall.  We were terrified.

Mayor Brett commented I would first like to offer my condolances to the family of the one we lost.  We are lucky that damage was no more than it was.  We may have lost the Airport, but we will definitley not let that stop us in out success..We will rebuild it, and make it better than ever before.

Already, plans are in place for a new seawall, about 1 km out to break up any waves that may hit in the future.  Also, buildings are being strengthened and made safer.

Here are images of the extent of the tidal waves damage.  Anything within the blue are areas flooded.

OK..For a while here the time is going to get quite unrealistic..(Liike the new airport being done in a month)..

    New Airport Better Than Ever.
Victoria: With the Tsunami cleanup almost complete, the new QEIA is nearing completion.  It follows a similar design to the old one, but is lower to the ocean, and has added a new terminal.  One terminal flys to Canada and the USA, and the other is to all other locations.  A whole new crowd of business and pleasure passengers are ready to travel out of YQE (Airport code for Queen Elizabeth International).

Also..this CJ is going nowhere without your guyses comments..PLEASE continue to comment.  I dont want to post just to make tons of ones in a row (like im doing)..i want to know what you think.
On that topic..If the referendum goes through ( Should pass it by the end of the week ), I am looking for someone that is good at photoshop that might want to design a flag for me.  If you are interested, PM me.  Thanks in advance.

PLEASE COMMENT THIS CJ GOES NOWHERE WITHOUT THEM

Airport almost done..Just adding the finishing touches.

Here is where you will see what I mean by unrealistic timeline.

COMING SOON: Downtown Guide, Traffic Maps, Airport Info Page, e t c.

Suburban Development adds 30 000 to Chapel Hill
Victoria: The new Chapel Hill Suburban Development was completed today, and 30 000 people have been added to the Victoria Metro Population, bringing it up to 230 000.  More developments are in place, and the population is expected to surpass 300,000 by the end of the year.

The plans included 4 new schools, 2 hospitals, a main library, and tons of parks, along with plans for more parks, hospitals, libraries, and schools in new areas in Chapel Hill, Belvedere, and York.

..A picture was recovered from a news helicopiter..showing Queen Elizabeth International about an hour after the Tsunami.  Thankfully, all Aircraft and passengers were evacuated before the Tsunami hit.  You can see the vast amount of erosion caused, and how much of the airport was washed away.  Currently, there is a cleanup of the area just offshore (lots of material from the airport), as well as a salvage (personal belonings, like wallets, etc.).  The new Airport was lowered closer to the shore, and is currently under construction.  Because it is lower to the sea, a seawall is being build a ways offshore to prevent further disaster.
    vic_046.jpg
The one person missing in the Tsunami was found washed up on shore, just west of the Airport.  It is believed that he was hiking and unable to hear the warnings, and hit by the wave.  The other victim's car stalled on Airport Blvd. and was overtaken by the Tidal Wave when it struck.

I am about to update, so be patient for an hour or two.

Anyways, First of all thanks to anyone who has bothered to comment.
And thanks a million for all the BATters who made the awesome biuldings which you see in my city..

I am not just speaking for me, but for many other CJ makers who work so hard on their cities to display here on Simtrop. it almost seems worthless to keep updating when some cities get almost no recognition.  Only 3% of people who view my CJ actually bother to post, and thats INCLUDING me.  It almost seems pointless when i get so many views..but almost no feedback.  I will keep updating but as i said earlier in the CJ, Its hard to keep it going when i get so little responses, and im sure many feel the same way.  If you read it, comment.  Lack of comments was one of hthe reasons i abandoned it in the 1st place.  Give some suggestions.  Im sure lots of people with CJ's agree with me

Thanks for listening for my ranting. and see you with and update in a few hours.

Ok, as promised, heres your update.

Dear Resident of Victoria-St. George and area.

As you may have noticed, ever since the new International Airport put new life into Victoria, an extensive highway system was created.  Victoria City Council has decided that it would be beneficial to place in a large highway system towards the busy areas of the city to allow for more growth.  Once the city gets larger--than we will see an effective system, as opposed to now, planning for the future is what we are doing.

And also, If i could ask you to please keep the streets clean of garbage because of the upcoming Expo.  If you see garbage anywhere, pick it up, and throw anything out in a trash bin or proper disposal facility.  That way the city can focus on revamping the city for our moment in the worlds spotlight.

    Thank you.
    Mayor of Victoria, brett_131

Northern Victoria / Kennedy provinces.  You can see the north-south running Vancouver Highway and the towns of Galveston and Manchester

*****Streets renamed from last highway update.
    1. Vancouver Street / Vancouver Highway.  It ends in Manchester in the north and the Industrial District in the south.
    2. Citadel Expressway.  Ends northeast of Belvedere in the east, and is proposed to extend from York to Citadel.
    3. Canal Street / Aviation Freeway.  Canal Street while in the Harbour District and St. George, and once it changes from an Avenue to a Highway, it becomes Aviation Freeway.  It runs from St. George, and is proposed to cross the bay to Gold Coast.
    4. Queen Street.  This connects the Queen Business park to the Industrial and R$ town of York.
    5. Proposed Oceanic Highway--North along the coast through Chapel Hill.
    6. Elizabeth Highway.  Runs from just north of the stadium, south, than east, than north along the coast.
