WHy You should not buy Simcity 2013

Few reason why you should NOT be buying new Simcity, but old Simcity 4 Deluxe or Cities XL

instead:

-It is SimTown not Simcity. You are not building cities but (small) Towns. Which

apparently EA is proud of.

- Size Matters! The building area available in the beta feels smaller than Smallest

Simcity4 map, smaller than any Cities XL, or even SimCity Societies map. The entire

building area is the size of 3 max size building zones in Simcity 4. Even if the

available map is the smallest one, it is still way too small. As proven on youtube you

can fill it up in an hour.

They have said the smallest one is 2x2 km. . .well i know bigger villages than that.

Plus it doesn't matter how large it is, its the scale of the rest that make it look

tiny. They said that pc are so powerful now they could release their long awaited desire of

simulating and animating each and every sim". Since they decided to basically divide

city sizes by 3 it seems that their shiny 'glassbox' backfired and big cities are

simply too big even for current pc. This may be the simplest reason to why city zones

are so small.

-Size ratio ? The road size and building sizes are strange in comparison. It feels like

the most % map space are roads. Just roads everywhere with small little dot buildings.

-No direct control over building sizes in zones resulting with a lot of empty space and

grass everywhere because:

-You need to leave empty space for buildings to grow, and that will change their width

and length, not just height because:

-It is impossible to choose zone density! because you know, in real world, when

someone wants to build 100m tall skyscraper, they build a little wooden wagon first

and then improve it with cardboard and spit.

No direct control over building plot size or density is even worse than SC Societies!

At least there you had to choose specific building so you knew its size! In Sc5 you do

not have that. Its simple "here is some land near the road and we do not care if, where,

and how you expand" That is insane city gov. if you ask me.

-It is impossible to choose own city-to-region connection. You have one, predefined by

a (put some Latin here) developer. That's it, if you don't like it then fu. Changing it

could mess up our PRECIOUS region play, (oh the HORRORS!) So as a result. . . .

-. . . there are only two cities connected to railroad. So we are forced to use them as

tourist spots because apparently "roads wont bring enough tourists". Umm I mean road. A

road. Seriously. . .

-It is not possible to create farming industry any more. Because you know, nowadays we

make vegetables in factories and stuff. Derp, or simply because they would take too

much space in after all, much smaller maps.

-Severely limited building options:

*each category of buildings like power, fire de®p, police de®p etc. has less stuff

than cities XL or Simcity 4. Oh ffs at least they could copy it, but they didn't bother . . .!

*it feels like we just get 30-40% of all stuff available in simcity4. Ps. this is

NOT how you should "improve" things

-It is not possible to place beatification like parks etc in the very very much a lot of

empty area in between buildings and in the center of "zones". It is required to put

bunch of trees or a pond near the road because . . . they require electricity to

operate or something? new "improved" simtrees use electricity rather than

photosynthesis? Or maybe because programming on Jack Daniels is HARD. Choose one option.

-No metro. Well cities will be so small we wont need any! Yey! ummmm. . . yey??

-No landmarks. Now your international airport is your landmark. Or region-mark to be

more specific. Yeah lets take a useful transportation building that you could

previously build multiple off, and make it huge landmark so having multiple cities is

required rather than optional! YeY! Oh i am sorry, I meant multiple TOWNS. Who cares

about pyramids, big Ben or Sydney opera when we can get perfectly working AIRPORT!

-No in-ci..uhhh....in-TOWN highway . . .towns are too small anyway

-You have to use the biggest roads for high density buildings to spawn. The problem is

they are WAY to large in comparison to everything else and take most of the building

space. Ps some "unknown" Asian civilisation developed along the train tracks not roads

but of course trains doesn't count for density limit thing ...

-Deluxe edition city packs is racist. . . . lets see. Standard = USA, old British buildings pack,

old French buildings pack and old German buildings pack . . . . its like Europe have

exclusive rights to old buildings. A little more cultural diversity EA, please. How

about Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Singaporean building packs for example ?

What ? DLC Material. . oh. . .

Other cons that i think are worth mentioning [Listed by http://sc2013thedece...e-to-maxis.html]:

- No option 100% offline with single player mode.

- Always-on connection to Origin (EA servers).

- Limitations to players in fake single player mode. (Import prices)

- The presence of empty spaces between cit. . .yy. . . towns is not editable (useless

empty spaces) with automatic road connections.

- Absence of terraforming.

- Not being able to save your maps on the hard drive (you will not be able to reload

the city to a stage prior to disasters).

- Airport City (the city is only one International Airport, occupying the entire map

2x2km).

- Dead space between all the buildings.

- Not being able to control the regional transport.

- Modding restrictions. (ofc, its online game! Modify it and you will be banned! )

I've been playing simcity 4 deluxe, Sc Socities and cities XL 2012 to prepare myself

for this new game and i must say that as a tycoon and city builder fan i wanted new

Simcity to be all the stuff from simcity 4 and Cities XL [even shamelessly copied, as a

consumer i dont care. derp ;P] put together with better simulation, new shiny graphics

and optimization able to handle 5mil population metropolis, brand new buildings and

methods of transportation, even Traffic giant gold build in.

. . . What i got though is Simcity Societies 2 with slightly less annoying zoning and no strange social

"things" like religion and stuff. Don't get me wrong, its not a bad game.

Name this game "Towns" or "Simcity Societies 2" and ill give it 9/10 but a proper Simcity IT IS

NOT.

It actualy feels like Maxis wanted to make more "proper" Societies rather than

"SC4 HD" .. .and they did their job well. Unfortunately.

People have been saying "oh but it is beta". Keep dreaming, this is not blizzard they

will not change game mechanics 1 month before release. At the VERY BEST they will make

hundred of small dlc's each costing 15$, each adding one building previously available

in SC4.

Also i have a question: who the ****** **** did they pick for alpha testers? Why so

many obvious things were not addressed a looong time ago?

[seems to me it was a bad developer case of " i am smarter than all the fans of

Simcity, and you will do what i say. Yes because i say so"]

Conclusion:

Save your money, buy CitiesXL 2013 (much more content but bad optimisation), or Simcity

4 Deluxe on steam with few mods (that give access to 1080p resolution, transportation etc.). They are much

better sandbox games.

「If you pay for crap games that do not improve the genre, they will keep making bad

games and stupid dlc's. The only way of preventing that is NOT BUYING the game. No,

"Ill buy the game and and tell them what i think" won't be good. You already bought the

game and made them happy. They really have to get smacked to reality by economy.

The only . . .only good thing I can see about this SimTown is that it runs smoother than Cities XL, and you can upgrade some buildings. That's all. All positive aspects of this game in one sentence. So no . . the game is very much NOT fine ( and btw i am not wasting my time ).

Although to be honest Cities XL starts going nots with more than 500k population in my "wild" city design . . . so its hard to compare with SimTown at the current stage. Nobody knows how it will run at 500k (if its possible to reach that kind of population)

This is going to be closed for various reasons. First and foremost, all of this has been discussed in several places. Please look through the forums for places to discuss these matters. They are not that hard to find. Second, it is not anyone's responsibility to try to convince anyone else to buy the game or not.
