Removing ploppables from In-game menu

Hey guys,

I have alot of custom content. While it makes the game go deeper it can make the game menu's cluttered and unorganised. My question is about the the different files in each mod. You have the .sc4desc, .model, .dat and .lot file.

With the exception of a few plugins, I hate it how some programmers make there buildings ploppable. The beauty of simcity 4 in my opinion is you never have control over what building will grow next.

My question is, if a programmer has included a ploppable version of a plugin which of the above files do I delete to remove the ploppable version but keep the growable version? Is this possible? It will definitly make my menu tidier and smaller.

PS: some modders have taken the courtesy to include seperate ploppable and growable files. When i delete the ploppable version it will sometimes remove the menu item and sometimes not depending on the mod.

Help appreciated, thanks.

Yes, you can either delete the ploppables or keep them as you wish. It's mostly an optional.

Each file ploppable and growable have its own .lot file, you just have to delete that file. Only the one belongs to one type.

Usually, the growables have .desc files included. whereas ploppables rarely included .desc files.

Most of the files that show up in the Landmark menu will have the word 'Plop' or Ploppable' in them. If you delete those files it will remove the building from menu. Sometimes, also the readme file will describe which of the files are the ploppable version. I believe in general you should not remove the .sc4desc, .model or .dat files.

You should use the DAMN and SSP Tool. It is a MUST if you have a lot of custom content. There s a tutorial here: http://www.simpeg.co...=articles;cat=7

Hellken makes a very good point. I use a lot of custom content, and the DAMN and SSP tools make it so much easier to organize and find what I want, rather than endlessly scrolling through the Landmark and Park menus.

    dohraymii, that's a good habit.

If you just want to remove them from the Menu, you can also use DAMN and SSP Tool to hide them.

Go to: DAMN options > Hide Configurations

    Then Check:

[/] Use separate folder for hidden lots

[/] Set hidden for lots which are DAMNed

DAMN the Maxis Landmark buildings using the SSP Tool's DAMN Manager. The run DAMN-Indexer.cmd (VERY IMPORTANT!) and they won't appear in the default Landmarks menu.

In SSPTool when I hit apply it takes ages, I mean hours. I leave it running and it never ends. Am I doing something wrong?

Sounds like a loop in the program. I hope you read the instructions carefully.

It sounds like a program loop from a bad install. Please follow the tutorial here at Simpeg 100 %: http://www.simpeg.com/forum/index.php?action=articles;cat=7

You might have to reinstall all over again.

Yeah I was just gonna say SSPTool a piece of crap. I stumbled across DAMN manager by accident and havent looked back. Set it all up very easily and now my SC4 dreams have come true.

SSPTool is not a "piece of crap". Please give credit and respect to the people who worked on it. It may not work on everybody's operating system.

Thank you, Hellken. That really needed to be said!

Damn, SSP Tool and Damn Manager are all stepping stones in a long history of development by really dedicated folks. None of these tools would be possible without their skills and ground-breaking work.

Thats why I don't discuss about SSPTool vs my tool, which is solely (with extensions) based on Stefan's work...

What you get for free is not something to complain about.

I haven't tried any of these tools lately because they didn't work on Linux/wine when I tried them years ago. I am encouraged, however, by the fact that revisions to various pieces of software have made it possible now for me to run Mapper and Terraformer. When I am feeling ambitious, maybe later today, I'll try these as well.

One should bear in mind that the people who make these tools are not generally trained in producing things that can be run by people without some computer skills besides button pushing.
