Is there anyone actually still playing this game?

Dear all

I am very worried.

Most site's are getting offline. The official forums barely have new messages. And even on this forum there is no activity since september 2012.

SO I am just asking, is actually anyone still playing this game? Or is everyone going to the new Sim City?

Greetings

I still play from time to time but I am extremely busy with college classes. Also, XLNation is often offline because its bandwidth used exceeds what it has been allotted.

Ocram's Razor: Though "more things shouldn't be used than are necessary," they're just too fun to pass up! Expect many verbose arguments from me. I will try to write abstracts before or short summaries after from now on.

Words to live by:
"Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit... But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually..." 1 Corinthians 4-11

"Do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:34
"Do not judge so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you." Matthew 7:1-3

I think they are trying to upgrade the server or something. They've taken the site down for a full 24 hours. The game is still alive and well; it's current a decent alternative to SC4.

It is still very much a live, new mods coming out sometimes 5 times a week, the Mercury City Tower, Moscow was just released on XLNation.

The site goes down because at the moment it isn'r running on the best server, but the owner is looking for better servers which can handle more traffic.

The current is 10 people max, if there is more the site stops running.

Hopefully the maintenance now will be upgrading the site / fixing problems or new additions.

I don't concur.

CXL has been a huge dissapointment. I've shelfed it in favor of Minecraft and 2003's SimCity 4.

You need mods to play Cities XL, the same as with SimCity 4 but most of the mods are on XLNation, which is often down.

Dissapointments aside... what games haven't been ... I have been playing CitiesXL for a few months with the mods added lately. Now I can't even look at SC4 without smiling at how dated it is.. If CitiesXL had the amount of mods the SC4 has now it could truly be the king... I think Cobhris stated it well.. it is an "alternative" not a successor

I love the game and play it loads in my spare time.

I think it took me a full day of endlessly trying before I managed to download and install 3 mods. Frustrating wouldn't be the word.

I only recently started playing Cities XL again, after some initial frustration because I tried playing it with the same mindset and strategies as SC4. Now, after downloading some great mods, such as the Real Highway Mod, I'd much rather play CXL and SC4.

And odds are you haven't even looked at the custom content available for the game.

Being a fan of the SC series for over a decade now, I still believe CXL is a better game. With custom content, CXL is a serious competitor to the now decade old SC4. It's certainly better than the new SimVillage game. I've been playing it for a couple of years now and only rarely play SC4 anymore, and only for nostalgia.

Besides, you gotta admit, even with all the great mods out there, playing a decade old game gets, well, old. CXL offers a fresh approach to citybuilding, without all the restrictions of the new SimVillage game.
