Can my PC run SimCity 5?

I have:

Win 7 pro

Pentium dual core 2.50ghz

4GB ram

Geforce GT 220

It´s maybe not the optimal rig for SC 5 i suppose. Especially graphic card?

I have the same graphics card with 1 GB DDR2 memory. It runs fine, but on lower settings. I'm not sure about your processor though.

You're right about the RAM. I'd say 4gb is fine for gaming, 8gb is better... although more for multitasking than gamimg. Anything more is unnecessary (for gaming). As for recommending an i7. It's complete overkill. Only get an i7 if you've got plenty of money or you need hyper-threading.

Except that (unfortunatelly, i'm the first to deplore that point) nowadays, most games are distributed with a 32 bits .exe, meaning the game process will not be able to use more than 2 Gigs of ram, 4 if you "hack" the exe by cheating with the signing bit of the addressing... btw, it's 2 by default.

So basically it's useless to have more than 2 Gigs + what your OS may consume. 4 Gigs should do the trick no matter what OS you're using or what game we're talking about. More is useless, unless you love to have tons of ram-consuming programs running in the same time.

It's the case for Simcity, it uses a 32 bits exe (and only uses 1 cpu core... what a shame !). The game consumes ~1.5Gigs with a city opened with a fully covered city (having one running atm), so, 1 Gig will not be enough, even with XP. 2 Gigs should work, but close other programs when running it.

When I say 1 gig will not be enough, the game will probably run, but you'll have tons of hard disk swapping for virtual memory, and it will have a big impact on performences.

Ok, so, has anyone had an experience with installing this game with components under specs?  Does it still allow you to?  I don't want to buy the game and not be able to return it.  My computer specs are as follows:

Windows 7 64-Bit

Intel Pentium Dual Core E6600 3.06GHz

4GB DDR2 RAM

NVIDIA GeForce 550TI  1GB GDDR5, Supports Direct X 11

Thanks in advance for any help,

Chris

P.S.  The only component that is under specs is my CPU.  What they recommend is a Core 2 Duo at a slower frequency than mine??  I believe I would be fine because of the extra speed.

My Laptop is:

http://us.toshiba.com/computers/laptops/satellite/P740/P745-S4217/

And I have had it for about 2 years now so it isn't like I spent my money on the laptop for gaming, but will this run SimCity on Low at least?

Everyone keeps posting the website and I have used it, it says that I can't run SimCity, but it also says this about Diablo 3 when I can on medium. My only worry is the Intel HD 3000 GPU. Does anyone play the game on it, and does it work?

The Intel i5 2410M exceeds the expecations and so does the 6GB of RAM.

So does it work? Anyone running on this Intel HD 3000?

hi

if you read above on my earlier post you can find my specs, it is similar to yours except for the graphics and windows 8.

now, I did this system requirements a couple of months ago and it came back saying that I did not have the required specs it needed to play the game on minimum

despite this, I carried on and bought the game.

I have being playing the game for a few weeks now and has being working fine on medium/high settings (with only a few problems such as the camera movement being slightly jerky)

My city has being growing and still the same results.

It should be ok for you as well however the graphics card concerns me slightly; however I think it could run ok on lower settings and just about on medium settings

However, I might be wrong and you might play the game fine!

Hope this helped and good luck!!

clock speed : 2.0 GHz

2nd level cache : 512 KB

Graphics adapter manufacturer : ATI

type : ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 4570 supporting HyperMemory™ technology

memory amount : 512 MB dedicated VRAM (total available graphics memory using HyperMemory

be up to 1,791 MB with a 32-bit operating system and 3 GB system memory or 3,323 MB with a 64

system and 6 GB system memory)

memory type : DDR3 Video RAM (resp. Video RAM and system memory combined)

I always use systemrequirementslab to test out if my PC can run a game.

Following this website I cannot run this game because of my CPU!

But this are the settings:

Pentium® Dual-Core CPU E5200 @2.50 ghz

CPU speed: 2.5 GHZ

RAM: 4.1 GB

OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Professional Edition Service Pack 1 build 7601 64-bit

Video: AMD Radeon HD 6800 Series, Pixel Shader 5.0, Vertex Shader 5.0, RAM 1.0 GB

Soundcard: HIgh Definition Audio

Internetspeed: When lucky I just get 756 kb/s. (Or around 4 MBPS).

Can I run it?

Yes, but as said before, it would have to be on medium settings.  TO ALL, don't believe SYS Requirements Lab to the letter.  I have:

Intel Pentium® Dual-Core CPU E6600 3.06GHz

RAM:  4GB DDR2

OS:  Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit SP1

Video:  NVIDIA GeForce 550TI 1GB GDDR5 DirectX 11

According to SYS Req. Lab, I can't run the program... I run everything on MAX settings and no problems, my sys fans don't even max out or anything.  Just go with the speeds the game requires the CPU to have. (EX:  Intel Core 2 Duo at 2.5GHz; JUST STICK WITH THE SPEED NOT THE MODEL OR MAKE)  Pentium Dual Core at 2.5 should be about the same.  As I have compared the 2 processors before, there are very little differences. (2 cores, 2 threads, about the same cache depending on models, etc)  I believe the Core 2 Duo has a faster Front Side Bus speed, but that would depend on the motherboard.

Hope that helped,

Chris C.

Ok, need some advise please; I am not a big gamer, actually the only game I have played on my PC is SC4. I have a 4 year old DELL XPS M1530 laptop with Intel Core duo T8100 @ 2.10 and 2.10 Ghz and 4GB RAM and a GForce 8600GT graficscard with 256mb videomemory. I know this is not much, actually it wasnt enough to play CitiesXL but it runs SC4 quite well. Since it is a laptop I cant change the graphicscard and I do not want to purchase a new PC for a few more years. From the specs requirements shown needed for SC5 I am assuming I can run it, since it seems to be lower then requirements for Cities XL. Am I right or? (I dont have a lot of knowledge on systemrequirments so thanks for any advise here!) :-D

It depands on your laptop, on some laptop the gpu is soldered directly onto the logic board(Which is not possible to update), some more expensive models might have the gpu housed on to a daughter card and can be updated(Beaware of cooling issues, if the new gpu's TDP is higher than the original one, your laptop might overheat).

UPDATE: I googled a bit, your laptop does have a replaceable graphics card, but I am not sure if there are any good update options

I'm hoping that machine is using Windows 7 as those specs could barely run vista. To be blunt the processor might be up to the task ( on the very low end ), however because that machine is quite dated I would be surprised if it ran at low. Those specs would have been near top of the line about 5-10 years ago.

That setup should be able to run SimCity fairly well, most likely with a mix of low and medium settings.

Don't think there's much you can do. System is just too outdated.

You could find an old graphics card that fits but it wouldn't be cost effective.

You probably need a new rig.
