I've been looking for some UDI jets on the STEX (747's, military cargo planes, etc), but without sucess. I'd really like them to not remove the fire plane, but any of the others are fine. Any suggestions?

I don't think adding UDI objects is very easy or even possible. UDI was a "stick on" near the end of the Rush Hour development cycle (wasn't in the original game), and is not very well thought out nor very well done.

It is strictly a marketing vehicle for The Sims IMHO. I turn it off immediately when I start a new city. It is just a bloody nuisance as far as I am concerned. If you want to play at that detail level, buy a copy of The Sims.

I already downloaded one, and it works fine, but it's a small private jet. UDI is one of the most enjoyable parts of the game to me.

udi in my mind is completely pointless from the beginning, however i can see some players using it to take a quick break from laying a zone or two...

you will only see me use udi to test some NAM features.... such as hours of laying GLR puzzle pieces or to test if my rhw intersection is functional

as for creating... the only way im aware of is downloading the original udi files separately, then editing them with ilives

Most UDI plane mods do indeed replace the fire plane. However, it's not that difficult to get it to replace one of the others, you just need to move the model IIDs to the IIDs used by another plane (As it's not a completely new vehicle, the IID move is a simple process). You will probably have clipping issues with it though, the Fire Plane has the largest hitbox.

You will need to find the model IIDs of the plane you want to replace however, they should be contained in SimCity1.dat. Finding them will be a whole different problem.

Everyone to his taste. I use the extra cheats command DrawPaths to check out funny things in my network.

Come on people .... sometimes it can be fun to use military helicopter or tank to blow up a building instead of demolishing it.

UI as an added bonus for the game might not deserve criticism!

Perhaps not, but believe me, it is poorly programmed and the user interface leaves much to be desired. Definitely not to my taste.

Nothings perfect! And I really don't think it would have been exactly an easy thing to get right.

I love taking a tank to abandoned parts of the city... :D

If they had spent some time on it, they probably would have made it better. In fact: looking at all custom content this community (st/devotion/simpeg...) has accomplished over the years with limited tools,

knowledge and the restriction of not messing with the .exe, i would say there is a lot they could have done better (disregarding technical issues such as comp.specs.)

Hah! Virtual Vicarious Vandalism. I don't get abandoned parts of any city.

Sorry to bump, but are there really no UDI airliners? UDI is one of my favourite parts of the game, and the reason I still play it...in fact, I've found it impossible to develop a thriving city without doing the missions. Can I also find some unmarked UDI replacements? For example a red fire truck without text or logos, or a European-style train...it really bugs me there are too few 'generic' vehicles up for download. Unmarked European El anybody?

I doubt it.  UDI is a late add to the whole system, jammed in at the last minute.

The first thing I do when opening a new city is to turn UDI off.  I don't need missions to build a successful city.

Remember that air travel is not part of this game as far as commuters are concerned.  The whole game is getting people to and from their jobs in the local city.  Overflowing into the region to find a job is an extension since the game can only see one city at a time.  If there is a neighbour connection, then it can only know that there may be jobs there.

Yeah, about that...are there any mods that extend the inter-city interaction? Because my region's two most successfull cities are separated by a rural village, which pretty much butchered growth somewhere around 25k population.

    Here's a couple I'm aware of:

    -- replaces fire plane

    -- replaces skydiver

Due to the limitations of UDI, it's not possible to add new items without replacing existing ones.
