I need some advice: a couple of times now i've tried to load up my SC4 disc and it sets the AVG off, i get a identity threat warning notice and the whole lot stops.

I've done a full scan of the whole computer, done a full update of the AVG at least twice a day and scanned everything seperatly just to make certian.

Is there anything i've missed?

I'd appreciate any help that anyone can give, i'd hate to think my computer's got slimed!

Hi there,

AVG has alot of false positive results. Also when you used a "no cd crack" or something AVG Free will definitely react on it. So if you have a fake version of the game thats your reason. If you have the original version of SimCity and AVG is still stopping everything just disable the AVG for a while. See how to disable AVG (till next start up) on http://www.avg.com/ww-en/faq.num-4497

Hope this help you further. If not let met know and be more specific whats happends. Good luck! :}

    no it's a legit copy i bought from 'Game' a couple of years ago, oh well it seems that just after every update something else goes wrong.

    I put the game back on an hour or so later and it worked ok,

    False positives eh?, well that takes the pain from a possible heart attack thanks.

    AVG, other than false positives, is OK as far as I know. Beware of free virus scanners, however, some of them are actually viruses. Unless the annual subscription of $30 per annum has changed, I recommend McAfee.

    Fine if proven. Being on Linux, while I run CLAM-AV, I've never even smelled a threat.

    i dual boot windows/ ubuntu on my computer.... ubuntu is for my internet entertainment and school work needs while with windows, i unplug my network cable and only use it for games... ok i do alow it for some internet games...but no pesky virus scanner needed

    ... before i done this i used webroot but that was 50$ a year..

    you may want to reinstall windows and look for a more friendly virus scanner... i would not go with norton

    If you are off the net running windows, that is clearly a good thing. However, how do you update it without being on-line?

    I hope you have turned on the Linux firewall and CLAM-AV for your production system usage. Both are insurance policies, free, and probably not really needed unless you are paranoid like me.

    when i got this PC it already had Norton on it, i tried to install SC4 and it flatly refused, Norton has the drawback of completly blocking any further instalations so it had to go!

    A bit of pain at the local computer repair shop and Norton was history, now i'll stick with AVG

    I've not had any more problems recently, it must have been the regular monthly update that knocked a domino over, oh well.
