Can I move my SC4 stuff to a different computer? Like everything... Files, Mods, Plugins, Regions, Cities, everything needs transferred to a different computer. Is this possible? And if so, how?

For best results, you'll need to reinstall your game onto your other computer (and then reapply all the updates).

The plugins (and everything else) can be moved in bulk, so long as you have some sort of way (CD-ROM, DVD-ROM, Flash Drive, Floppy (Not really), transfer cable, clouds) to transfer data between one computer to another, making sure to put your plugins in the same directory as they were in the first place. Just copy the entire Simcity 4 folder in your Documents folder onto something and transfer away.

Just install your game as normal on the other computer, copy the SimCity 4 folder from the My Documents folder from the old computer onto a flashdrive (4 to 8 gigs should be good), and then copy the folder from the flashdrive to the My Documents folder on the new computer and select "Replace files" on the screen that should pop up.

Also...

This may not be news to anyone, but is something I discovered seven or more years ago and it gives me an opportunity to start a city and then take different avenues of development with the same city and see the result. It also enables me to import the different variations of that city or region into the same map as neighbors.

Say you have a region that you particularly like or wish you had some of the cities from that region in another region without eliminating them from the region where they are currently located. (say that real fast and you'll sound like a politician).

Aaaanyway... go into the regions folder, select one of the folders and open it. Scroll down to the bottom of the list of cities and locate the "Region" file which is a configuration setting for that region. Open the file in your text program and rename or alter the city name to something different. For example, I have a recent New York region and an old one from 2007 I renamed the old one to "New York 2007". Be sure to rename the folder also to MATCH the name you gave the file! (Otherwise it will NOT show up on your list.)

Save your changes and then copy the region into your "Regions" DOCUMENTS folder near where you have your Plugins folder.

The next time you open SC4 you should have the renamed region show up in your list. Then you can play it normally or import to or from that region.

With this one can play out endless variations on a city and create unique regions adding even more hours of gameplay to a city you thought you were tired of.

No you don't. You also need the entries from the registry. It is probably better to just reinstall the game, then copy the user files.

Did you copy the appropriate entries in the registry across? If not, you will have problems with updates, etc. Some programs look in the registry to find the game files.
