I just installed SC4 deluxe on my laptop with win 7 64 bit, and I don't know where to install plugins and addons from the STEX.

Anyone know more about this than I do?

EDIT

nevermind it wasn't showing up before but now it does. sorry.

C/My Documents/SimCity 4/Plugins/

Or if you want a more complex one:

C/Program Files (x86)/Maxis/SimCity 4/Plugins

Both work, so if one is maxed out, use the other, but the latter plugins folder cannot be used if you have parental controls/are not an administrator.

Unless you are a system programmer and understand what you are doing, don't put anything in Program Files.

normally you will put everything in your documents/plugins folder but some install programs place the folders OUTSIDE of the plugins folder. not sure why but those are the file paths that the install programs use and it's usually a good idea to leave them where they are

normally you will put everything in your documents/plugins folder but some install programs place the folders OUTSIDE of the plugins folder.

A look into these folders (or even at some of their names) would show you that they contain the readme files and the associated screenshots. Since these files may be useful for your reference, but would only be ballast inside your plugins folder, they are placed outside of your plugins folder. It's no mystery at all, and you can freely move these folders around if you don't like them where they are. Your game and your plugins will not be affected at all. However, new installers will keep creating these folders to place their readme files on your HD, and there's nothing you can do about it because that part of the installers is always "hardwired". (one of the reasons why I hate installers)

Generally, I keep all documentation for plugins in the appropriate folder within my <user>/Downloads section.

Thanks guys, but I got it before anyone even posted :P ..... it wasn't there until I started the game for some reason.

Oh and as for my skill level....I've forgotten more about computers than most people will ever know, so don't worry about me poking around in program files :D

same here, kinda frustrating when everything you knew 10 years ago doesn't seem to work anymore :P

Just a note. Normally the user data structure is created by the game during install, but if you lose your user structure or switch accounts, the default structure is created when the game is started the first time.
