I created a HUGE region and I am going to recreate the United States and Canada. Every city with an MLB, NHL, NFL, NBA, and NCAA team will be represented. I am currently terraforming my land mass. Currently done with Hawaii and 3/4's of the way done with California. I am going to post pics of what I have done as I finish with each state. I will tell you now tho that the major cities, i.e. LA, NY, CHI, MIA are generally in their proper locations geographically but the medium size cities such as Champaign IL etc are not. Do you guys think it is a cool idea that you will want to follow or should I go away? Lol

I appreciate that bud. It is going to take me forever just to terraform this thing. Browsing STEX to see if there is an easy way to do this so I can start building lol.

That would be really cool to see... Especially a transport map with the interstates in the right places.. If that's what you're planning on doing. I hope Sim City 5 has easier terraforming tools. It's a real pain in the ass. :ninja:

exactly how do you plan on doing that ? i created a region 27x27 large city tiles once and the game kept crashing b/c it was too many cities for the game to handle unless you're running a pure gaming rig (alienware or falcon northwest)

It is actually not that hard. Open up you paint program and make the canvas as big as you want. Remember tho that if you make it to big you will have problems. Mine for example is 120 x 75 pixels. Now you can place your cities how ever you like. For large cities which are 8x8 you will use a blue color. Any blue will work as long as the blue level is 255. Just double click on the color in the pallet to see. Medium maps are green, and small maps are red. Save the file as config.bmp and move it into any region you like and there you go. Any questions feel free to ask.

They won't be in the right places at all honestly. Geographically my region is waaaaaay off. Everything is kind of in the right place. I am kind of going about this as if I am God (as much as I hate to say that) and then the mayor of the US lol.

It's a very cool idea, and it's been tried a few times on the Stex, but I really am not pleased with the outcomes. But I agree with chimeran, you'd need a humongous map. How are you going to do this?

Actually it is just a walmart bought computer. I think it cost me like $150 bucks.

Then you will most likely not like mine either. I am not going to be totally accurate, if at all. The map is huge and gives me some problems, like loading times but it is nothing unbearable.

i hear ya, i'm recreating dallas county w/a 16x16 large city tiles map and the cities are more or less in the same geographic region as the actual dallas county. as for map sizes i know for a fact that the largest you can make that the game can handle is 20x20 large city tiles and the theoretical limit is 22x22 large city tiles but i haven't tested it out. my maps now are 16x16 large city tiles which doesn't cause too much lag but that's just a barren map w/no development and i'm not sure how the game will run when all the city tiles are fully used but i'll find out and let you know. my rig is a toshiba satellite P-775 and cost me about $800 and it's pretty fast but not fast enough to run skyrim on it's highest settings.

How do I put pictures on here? I can not figure it out!

the easiest way i've found is to upload your pics to your city journal and then you can you use my media to paste them into a post.

the performance of the pc does not make a difference in terms of maximum city size.

I've been through this experiment over at sc4d with a scale replica of the LA basin (see the 4 LA maps by dobdriver (aka drunkapple) which he made on my request; I tried to combine them in one region @ 36x24 large tiles which is not possible) and realized it's by far not a matter of system specs but rather of game coding, because on top of the crashes at a certain amount of cities, you will(!) also run into scrolling problems in region view; on the bottom line the problem persisted even beyond hardware upgrades so you can certainly rule out this side of the problem.

I run a 1st generation Acer Predator, of course not state of the art anymore (although upgraded), but definitely a gaming rig.

It would be interesting to have many real cities re-created, but as GMT stated above, there is a very slim chance of it being done. I'll be watching this to see what you can do.

here is the United States and part of Canada as well

there is no config.bmp and there is an 8bit greyscale image for you to use to render the map anyway you wish :)

^ nice i was just about to say take a greyscale of the the North American continent or just what you want from it and have the region render it for you. It will be geographically accurate then and you can start building right away!! Anyways good luck on this ambitious project looking forward to seeing some more pics!!

you can rework the greyscale however you wish but they way it rendered for me was mostly water where the land is supposed to be so i'm editing the map in SC4 Terraformer and trying to make it as playable as possible while keeping as much detail as i can

gonna be off-line for a few hours while i re-render the map and address a prob w/the landmass and the ocean near the bottom but i'll upload the finished version in SC4M format and you can adjust it the way you want to

Hey guys I am back. Sorry I was gone so long. Got stuck on ammo guard for 2 days almost 24 hours each. In a 48 hour period I worked, not joking, 42 hours. Anyway, I took my computer with me. I didn't get much done because I was the only one with a computer and we watched a bunch of movies. It looks like I am going to have to do all the terraforming myself. For some reason when I use a grey scale image and render it the results are all ocean. I tried a million different things and nothing worked. I am going to terraform it myself again. The eastern seaboard is almost done. I want to thank everyone so much that tried to help me out. It is much appreciated.

Well I FINALLY got the map the way that I want it. It is not totally accurate because I had to squeeze it some to get it to fit. Anyway I had to redo the entire map because the northeast was giving me major fits. Just terraformed Maine. Some things tho. The map is semi accurate. Cities are generally in the right location but because I had to squeeze it Nevada is really really small and located to far north. But anyway here is Maine.

Holy crap! So I FINALLY have the east coast terraformed. All the way from Maine down to Florida. From the coast to PA down to Alabama.Going to start on the midwest tomorrow. From New Orleans, up to St. Louis up to Minnesota east to where I finished with the eastern sea board. But damn this is an undertaking,
