Well I thought I would be cruel to my citizens and see how many I could plow onto one highway.  Fairly simple, just build a cloverleaf, put all my residential off the top branch, industy off the bottom branch and comercial off the left and right branches.  I didn't take any screenshots as the city built up as it is a pretty boring city so I'll just jump ahead and post the end result.

It was actually starting to get harder as to prevent commute times which were to long I had to cram things close together.  Also I ended up converting a part of one of the commercial branches to industry.  That gave some problems as even my poor residents didn't want to live in such a polluted environemnt (you can see those affects near the top left portion of the picture).  This probably would have been easier if I had other town on my region map but this was the only one.  You can't see it but I actually have 6 clover leafs lined up in a row.  I wanted to go higher so I thought to get around the industry pollution problem I would just put it across in a differnt in a different city.

    Traffic City Part 2

So in my quest to increase road rage, I created two new towns, Restra and Traind.  One with all the residential and commercial, and the other with all of my industry.  Once again I use force all the traffic onto the same highway to access both my comercial and industrial areas.  Here's the result.

Hmm, 65535 a very recognizable number for people who program.  To be honest I was very disapointed to see this cap on the traffic volume display.

I did confirm it was a cap by checking the two input roads.

22109 + 52778 = 74887 poor people drving on the road.  I could have pushed it up higher but I lost incentive when I saw the limit.  As a side note I just thought I would show my traffic crossing between my cities.

    There's that display cap again.

    Traffic City Part 4

Well I guess in closing I though I would point out a few things I noticed.  In Traind (industry city) on a medium sized map I still had industry developing across the entire map, and yet my commute times were very low in that city (around 25 I believe).  I also noticed in Traind that I could tax them at 20% and no one would leave.  So all I would do is pump up my tax, collect tons of money.  And the drop my tax to 0% and watch the enormous growth.  Eventually when no more growth would occur even at 0% tax, I would go back to Restra and there was so much residential demand that skyscrappers would popup very quickly (3-6 at a time).

As a side note, I thought I would show everyone how much pollution is generated by all my traffic.  Remeber there is no other pollution buildings in the area so it's all just from the traffic.

Yeah, this was something noticed quite some time ago. Don't think anyone has looked into trying to change this [yet], though I doubt it could be. It's only a Display Limit though I believe. Stick a Toll booth on there, somewhere, give it some [a lot of] time to update & all, then take a look at the numbers on the Toll Booth [divide the number by 2 though].

That's some pretty nasty pollution you got going there.

Hey use the traffic mod below and see what happens. It does have 10x so you won't get abandonment. Commute times will be arond 20-30 mins.

17.gif That is a great city! It's amazing that you got so many cars on one highway, without mods. It's also amazing just how bad the pollution can get from cars.

I'm sure with a few bus stations, you'll clear up 90% of that congestion and pollution. Also, you'll get two numbers to try to max out: Busses and cars. I'm sure it can be done. 2.gif

Hmm buses, that could make it more interesting.  I remember somebody mentioning that buses are converted to cars if you don't give them stations on the other side, maybe I should see what happens.

Sometimes it can be weird because the pollution from cars can be worse than the pollution from dirty industry.1.gif

The amount of freeways in such a small space reminds me of Detroit!

In the city I'm currently making (Hong Kong), there are approximately 59,650 buses and 16,200 cars on the right side of my highway bridge, which goes from Western Kowloon to Central HK Island. It's actually not just on the bridge --- It's like this all over the city. And, since I have so many buses, the pollution is quite low.

I'll upload a screenie when I have the time.

Download bttweaker then change the capacity of the bus or subway station. The only problem you are going to have is the roads with 3000 busses.

...And to answer to Ninja12 do a search on the thread Worst Highway and you'll find the thread, and search some of unsusalfire's replies on the bottom, and you'll find the mod. I see he didn't post it here.42.gif

Well, I'm working to get a quick metropolis, and fully made of [once 350,000], but then that darned cap limit wouldn't let me see the full 100,000 and overusage, and there was the roundabout the whole city had to use to get onto the highway... For some reason, it appeared with the route query that there were no people on it, where from the avenue that conjoined it a few tiles later, there were traffic, [the number cap number]. My new high rise part of my city had no jobs, and they were the all-mighty Ong Condos!!! I could make pictures, but... It may not be needed. (I did my city before I read this.)

Well, cool thing you did there, unsusalfire, and again interesting and a little frustrating. [:0]
