What are growth stages?

Some of the growable buildings that i have downloaded on the simtropolis exchange say they only grow at growth stage 8, 7, 6, etc.

Could someone please explain to me in depth what this means? i've got the general idea, that it's just the requirements you have to meet for that type of building to be able to grow, but i still don't completely get it.

Also, could you please outline how to get to each growth stage?

thanks in advance

The basic gist of a growth stage is tied with density.

You start out with GS 1. Once you achieve specific threshold, GS 2 buildings can start cropping up, and so on. (I don't know the exact numbers, but the default game can start growing high-density at a population of 26K.)

GS 6, 7, and 8 are associated with high(er) density zoning. GS 8 is definitely high-density, and I believe 7 is also high-density. 4-6 is medium-density. (My numbers may be choppy, but anything above 1-3 is already getting to med-density.)

Growth Stages are the stages your city have to reach before that lot grow.

The Growth Stages are based on region population capacity of each zone type, here is a table with values

.

industrial zone have just 3 stages.

however, you can find some lots with 9, 10, 11 ... 15 growth stages, that lots are for Colossus Addon Mod, also called CAM, for CAM each zone type have 15 growth stages, and industrial zone 7, even farms!! the farms reach national park, and CO$$$ very big and beautiful skyscrapers.

here is the links of CAM and a page with a lot of those lots (called CAMeLots)

Tell me if I'm wrong. For R and C,

stage 1,2,3 : low density zone

stage 4,5,6 : medium density zone

stage 7,8 : high density zone

The stages are more related to "occupancy" and population. You can zone anything you like.

Those numbers represent the regional capacity on that form of RCI yes. However that is the lowest level for achieving such buildings, to begin with a very small percentage of buildings can be max stage, as you get more population/capacity the percentage allowed to be max stage increases. This explains why you can get stage 8's in an entirely new city almost instantly, provided you have already reached the regional capacity in other cities.

The table that you posted helped but what about the stages 9 -15 in the CAM, Can you provide a table for it?

I wouldn't bother with CAM. There are many buildings for it, but for any building which isn't CAM'ed - which is probably 75% of them, you will then need to mod, or else it will break the cycle and pop up to early or to late in the CAM density path.

However if you're interested here is a table with all CAM stages included - https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?PHPSESSID=9aabc63dcd2fb975ae24c549f20f35bc&topic=3578.0

When you say regional occupany....

Do you mean if I have one city with a residential population of 50,000, if I start a brand new city, and zone a high density tile 4x4 I would expect to get something like the "Project hope" or "Hamster Tenements" both stage 8 R$ buildings appear in my new city, or do I have to get this city to a pop of 50,000?

What is occupancy vs population?

Stage limit is a regional property. So yes, you should be able to get high density buildings in your new city if you've got the demand for.

What is occupancy vs population?

The relevant opposition is capacity vs population or occupancy.

Capacity refers to the potential or maximum population a building can contain. Occupancy refers to its real or current population. As far as i know, stage limits only depends on capacity.
