No, your not seeing things, 3 months to build a 838m skyscraper, well sort of.

tallest%20buildings20120620090009.jpg

Tallest Buildings in the World China's planned new skyscraper will be the tallest building in the world, overtaking the Burj Khalifa by 10 meters.

The world's tallest building took five years to reach its 828-metre height, but a Chinese company wants to leave the Burj Khalifa in the dust. Broad Sustainable Building, which already built a hotel in two weeks, aims to erect the new Sky City skyscraper within three months.

The 220-story building would be the tallest in the world by 10 metres, according to

CNN, which first reported on the construction plans. It was designed by a Dubai architect, in an interesting twist. The company would use pre-fabrication methods to construct it in record time - 95 per cent of the building will be built before the ribbon is cut at the ground-breaking ceremony.

Despite its gargantuan size, the building will supposedly use one-fifth the energy of a traditional edifice, because its 15-cm-thick walls and quadruple-glaze windows will provide better insulation. When it's complete, 104 elevators will connect 220 floors and 1 million square metres of usable space. This will include the world's tallest hotel, living space and potential office space.

In an interview with

Xinhua, machine-translated from simplified Han Chinese, BSB chief executive officer Zhang Yue said the company wants to break ground in November, and that the tower will be completed in January 2013.

If this seems overly ambitious, note that BSB has apparently done it before, albeit not on this scale. In December of last year, the company erected a 30-story hotel in 360 hours; watch a time-lapse video below.

Government agencies still have to approve BSB's plans, but the Wangcheng district in Changsha, Hunan province, is already on board, CNN reports. We can't wait to see the time lapse video of this one.

Not according to them, lol. Said it will break ground at the end of this year and finish next year. wow.

This is a model of the building, it has barely any design in my opinion. Sears Tower on steroids? lol

Well a prefab skyscraper will look like any other prefab building.Or if you have ever been some place were the same architect designed all the big buildings in one part of town, they are all the same building.

there must be10 of these buildings along I-35 in dallas

Blecch! Bauhaus on steroids. What happens if there is a fire on the umpteenth floor?

More and more, these eastern countries are suffering from a case of male organ envy. It is foolish and a waste of resources.

By only 10 metters? It can't be more tallest, 50 metters at least?

Or more better, can't it be another kind of project, for example a complex of residential and offices towers? It would be more shining that a super-tall between the clouds. Just as the skycrappers of my city: height is not important, design is important.

Here is a question: will be there a limit for the height of the future super-talls?

China is building 10 cities a year and they are all ghost towns, with prices too high for most Chinese people to afford. Dubai fell, so soon shall China.

Ocram's Razor: Though "more things shouldn't be used than are necessary," they're just too fun to pass up! Expect many verbose arguments from me. I will try to write abstracts before or short summaries after from now on.

Eventually you will reach a point were the base cannot support the weight. but their making innovations in materials all the time.

then you will reach the point were wind is too strong.

I've got a lot information of this project, from Skyscrapercity:

    Sky City (blueprint)

    1. Construction objectives

Sky City offers a multitude of benefits towards urbanization, sustainable research and the corporate aspirations of BROAD. Boasting a four to one ratio between fiscal savings and environmental protection; Sky City strives for energy, material, water and land conservation. Based upon practical building methods, our objective is to promote a high quality of life through lively urban design.

Sky City will explore the roadmap of Chinese urbanization and improve the quality of citizen life whilst remaining in accordance with Chinese Government policies which govern the building and construction industry. We do not intend to erect a landmark, but to develop and extensively build, a practical building with medium cost and ultra-low energy consumption which will reciprocally shape the future urban life style.

    2. Building Overview

The building, with 220 floors (838 meters) and a construction area of 1 million square meters, is equipped with approvimatly 200,000 tons of steel and 104 elevators.

    Application Area People

    Residence 83% 17,400

    Hotel 5% 1,000

    Educational 3% 4,600

    Hospital 3% 1,400

    Office Building 3% 2000

    Shop, Restaurant,etc 3% 5,000

    Total 100% 31,400

    3. Construction Overview

Location: by Xiangjiang River, Changsha City, Hunan Province, China

    Estimated installation: November, 2012

    Estimated completion: January, 2013

Builder: BROAD Sustainable Building Co., Ltd and its partners

    4. Construction Method

Sky City will work in close collaboration with architects and engineers of the Burj Khalifa and utilize BSB modular technology, an construction method which features 95% factory prefabrication at a five story per day construction speed.

    5. Safety

    1) Magnitude 9 earthquake resistance whereas the local Changsha standard design is only Magnitude 6.

Notes: 4 aspects lead to its remarkable earthquake resistance--trapezoidal pyramid solid structure, designed by famous architects, model testing and factory production with strict quality control.

    2) Fireproof steel structure with fire resistance up to 3 hours.

    3) 10 fire escapes, which are available to evacuate people at the whole floor within 15 minutes.

    6. Environmental Protection

    1) Energy saving: Unique technologies from Broad offer five times higher energy-saving than that of conventional buildings. Our BROAD unique technologies include a 15 cm thermal insulation, 4-paned windows, fresh air heat recovery, non-electric air conditioning, cooling-heating-power system and more.

    2) Electricity saving: Electricity consumption is six times less than that of conventional buildings by using technology such as LED lighting and auto power- generated lifts.

    3) Land saving: 5~10 times less land due to increased building height and decreased traffic.

    4) Purer air: with BROAD unique fresh air machining this project offers 20 times purer air than outdoor air. BROAD technologies feature a 3-stage air purification, 7 times/h air exchange and 100% fresh air eliminating cross contamination.

    7. Others

The project was initiated in April 2012 and is subject to the final approval by the government. On June 5, 2012 agreements were struck between BROAD and its partners, which was revealed across the Internet during which BROAD has been invited to release this blueprint. Official planning will be announced in August, 2012.

Funny use of the word conquest. Who is there to conquer? You are expecting the Little Green Men to defend space? Are astronauts the new conquistadores?

Wow..if Big Brother were ever to built a supertall glass skyscraper, this is what it would like. Mordor just needs a Great Eye of Sauron...

    011.jpg

Too late! Yeah, CITIC Plaza in Guangzhou remains one of the most sternly threatening skyscraper compositions ever constructed.

I guess we should be glad this new project has no disco ball head nodules, flying saucer restaurants, sweeping tiled roofs, or plastic Roman columns, which are often the scaleless tacky staples of New China's new prosperity. Given some other gaudy projects, this new supertower actually overly restrained.

    I mean, c'mon...

That last one is a joke, right?

They all make CITIC Plaza--the one with the horns and all-seeing red eye--actually look handsome!

That is what you get when you bring State Capitalism to a once great culture in Asia.

*That is an anti-communist statement. I love Asian cultures and traditional Asian architecture.

No, no, I don't like it, that building is ugly, totally Ugly :rage: . Even the buildings showed in the cyberpunk movies and shows are more better designed than that.

I agree. The design certainly isn't very inspired.

Countries always want to one-up each other... But I guess if they didn't, progress would never be made. It would be nice if progress was less ugly, though.

They definitely need more time for that monster. I feel like making it in such short amount of time would be...problematic. Or it would be like practically leaving the structure unsound...
