I was wondering if any still had his BATs and Lots.

As far as I know he had some glitches with them and took them down and never re-uploaded them.

He made so many wonderful Big Box stores and Gas Stations that I haven't seen elsewhere.

I am looking for anyone that has them and is at least willing to PM them to me. (is that even ok)

here's his old BAT thread to give you and idea to some of the stuff he made.

Why would that be? You're not taking credit for anything, you are not making it public, you just send it to someone who wants it. Had Bobbo662 not wanted that his stuff be downloaded and shared at all, he shouldn't have published it in the first place - for free private use, to be precise. Exactly what's intended here.

I also have some files on this very STEX, and if I pull one of them because I think it's not good after all, I'll have to live with the fact that a bunch of people will already have the file on their HD or somewhere else, and that they may give it to some of their buddies if they are interested - where's the problem, the damage, the harm? It's not like unauthorised people get a nuclear bomb or any top-secret document sent to them. I don't get deprived of my big fat royalties, either. It's just a bunch of guys sharing stuff in private that used to be published for free sharing in private in the first place.

TBH, I don't know the official site policy on this topic, but the above is what common sense tells me, and I really think where there's no harm and no victim, it's hard to do something wrong.

Why would that be?

Not my place to say.. I've just always been under the impression that is the rule of thumb around ST.. I might be wrong

I'm of two minds on this; on the one hand, I can see where we can say "well, if he didn't want to share them now, then he shouldn't have shared them in the first place." On the other hand, I can totally understand that removing one's stuff from the various exchanges is tantamount to saying, "I don't want them to be shared. Otherwise I would still be making them available."

I am curious, what is the STEX/Simtropolis policy on someting like this? If there even is one...?

I was under the impression that people share each other's plugins folders all the time. Like T Wrecks said, nobody's losing money or anything, these are free-to-use files. Not to mention, they aren't the property of the STEX or LEX or any exchange. They're the property of the creator. If the creator has a problem with what you do with their files, it's their business to come after you.

He took the lots down because of some problems with both the mod'ing of the lots ( ie improper job reporting) and some issues with the model IDs conflicting with other stuff on the Stex. He told me that he had intended to put them back up but he was having issues with gmax and his saved models reading as corrupted.

Beyond the stuff bourneid mentioned, his old lots that were taken down suffered quite badly from Immortal Lot Syndrome, which, as I recall, was the biggest reason they were taken down. Suffice to say, there's plenty of legitimate reasons why those files are no longer offered. Bobbo didn't take those files down just because he felt like it; he was being a responsible steward of his content.

If the creator has a problem with what you do with their files, it's their business to come after you.

It may not financially damage creators, but if someone who is distributing their Plugins did a poor job installing, and may have missing dependencies or incompatible files mixed together (which is very often the case), who's going to provide technical support? While the uploader of the Plugins folder should, in theory, be responsible for providing support, they generally don't have nearly the technical expertise to do so, nor do they have any sort of forum to provide support (they typically use . . . circumspect distribution channels. . . that are frowned upon by ST and SC4D staff). Usually, what ends up happening is that they end up coming to the creators of the content. The initial uploader's mistakes are multiplied. This gets to be especially bad when the uploader has a NAM installation in there--it could be an RHD installation, and the user downloading it could be an LHD user, or vice-versa. There's a ton of inherent risk involved, that the typical person who downloads one of these sketchy Plugin folders has no idea they're taking.

The more times we have to spend dealing with "brown boxes", "red arrow bugs", drive-side mismatches, etc., all the way up to CTDs, caused by user error, the less time we have to create the new content that folks (both ourselves and the community at large) want us to create. With the situation with these lots in question, you'd essentially be re-distributing the Immortal Lot Syndrome issue and a host of other problems that led the creator to discontinue offering them (in spite of their immense popularity).

Yeah that's gotta be annoying when people come looking for technical support for files that they got in an...underhanded way. I'm sure most of the time files are removed for good reasons.

People just have to lean that if you don't follow the rules, don't expect any help.

I never really had problems with his lots nor did I have a ILS issue either, but I knew others had problems so that's why I asked for someone to PM them to me. The Only thing I can see being an issue.is that the BSC props he used are sort of out of date.

I was looking for Bobbo662's BATs about. Oh, two years ago now. I eventually tracked him down and he emailed me all of the BATs that he could find and we actually started to re-upload them onto the STEX but they were taken down because we couldn't remember the dependencies. A lot of his BATs do still exist but some have been misplaced. But I do remember him saying to NEVER give his BATs away, never pm them, re-upload, etc. He always wants people to go through him to get his BATs since they're not up on the STEX.
