Wow!  He's back.  Beirut was one of my favorite CJ's, and I'm glad to see that you've started another one!

Hope you remember to back up your files a bit more often than normal 2.gif  Can't wait to see where this one goes.

I work for the US Army. I go places, visit mean people, and kill them.

Winston Churchill is generall credited for saying something to the effect of: "People sleep soundly in their beds because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf". That about sums up my life, besides the "rough men" part.

Rob,

I just went back and reread both of your CJ's and I can't believe I missed them.  They were really good (esp. Beirut).  I'm looking forward to seeing how this one turns out!

    Wow, I appreciate all the comments - thanks!

    As for Beruit, after my computer crashed I refused to play SC for months.  I was so p*ssed.  Needless to say I'm going to be extra cautious in backing up my game regularly.

    sloppet - Yup, I did know Warsaw was the capitol of Poland, although I wasnt aware it was such a bad place to live.  Not that I sit and think about Warsaw a lot, but for some reason I never really would have expected it to be ugly either.  I suppose that has something to do with being carpet bombed back in ww2, eh?

    I love historic CJs. Beruit was probably the best one among them. It's great that you decided to return and do another one. And it looks promising.

    Is Warsaw, Mississippi also based on a real city in that area, like Beruit was based on Buffalo?

    Good luck with this one, I guess you'll see me here more often.

    EDIT: This was my 400th post, btw (not that I give too much to statistics).

    pepsi71ocean: Waraw was bombed by Geramn bombers in 1939 right at the beginning of WW II.
    Yet it wasn't carpet bombing since this as terrific as desastrous technique was developed by the allied forces after 1942.

    Hmm... Beirut -->  Buffalo

    Warsaw...  -->  New Orleans(?)

    Methinks there might be a connection?  Just a thought...

      Before I begin my CJ, I feel as though I should clarify a few things. First and foremost, unfortunately unlike Beruit, you will not get to see Warsaw progress through its history. Warsaw will be built entirely

    Well, it is all looking promising so far.
    The historic development of Beirut was to me very interesting to follow. But that was ofcourse not the only reason I liked Beirut so much, you have an own style of building that is quite detailed which I also enjoyed a lot. And I am sure Warsaw will become even better.

    Looks promising. From the shots I've seen already, I like the downtown (how it varies between parks, smaller buildings, and taller buildings) and the road network looks good too.

    Looking forward to seeing more.

    Although I especially like historic CJs, I also like realism, feel and character. You probably adapt the best things out of the greatest US cities to your CJ. Sounds like an interesting concept and also looks interesting so far.

    I would still love to see some historic backgoround from time to time, because time and historic events are factors that make a real city...

    EEK! I'm so glad you're back, Beirut was perhaps my favourite CJ of all time, right in front of Digby. This new one is looking good so far, I like the downtown grid using the one-way streets. Also, I'd love to know how you took out the in-game low-wealth housing...

    Um. Just to say. For U.S. cities, I've never seen the turning lanes on the left side.

    Very nice work! The downtown looks very promising. 3.gif

    Hope an update soon.

    pepsi71ocean - I was just using the generic definition of Carpet bombed.  I probably should have said that they were bombed out the wazoo instead.  Sorry bout the confusion.

    PhilsCafe - Concerning your earlier question, Warsaw is based on Biloxi, Mississippi.  However, Biloxi is pretty small, and probably doesnt really have much of a history (to my knowledge at least), so it will more than likely veer off in its own direction.

    Congratulations on the big 400, btw.  39.gif

    Slowhand - I was wondering how long it would take before someone noticed that.  When I installed the NAM I must have inadvertently somehow used the wrong files.. or deleted something, I dunno.  I made an attempt at fixing it but obviously I didn't have any success.

    RadioheadFan - The low wealth housing is still there, I just chaged it so they would show up as the Chicago R$$ houses.  I'll explain it more later..

    (EDIT: Fixed the left hand turning lanes.)
