Crash in Region Screen/EA Logo

Hello , i recently installed Sim City 4 Deluxe in my new pc and it crashes at the region screen or EA Logo.

In the EA Logo i can avoid it if i turn the intro off , but it still crashes at the region screen.

I already set the affinity to one core only , because my pc is Quad-Core , and it still crashes after a few seconds or clicks.

Any solution, i really wanna play Sim City 4.

My pc specs are:

Nvidia Geforce Gt 440

Intel i5 second generation Quad-Core.

4GB of RAM

Windows 7 Professional 64-bits.

It's not the OS since i played SimCity 4 in my old pc that had the same operational system.

Didn't work... I have a tidy clean installation of SC4 Deluxe (it even makes me proud) but i start , pass the SimCity 4 screen, to the region screen and then i click some times and it crashes to desktop without even saying me something.

Okay, so I'm having problems, too.

So I have an HP laptop. Recently purchased. I downloaded SC4 Deluxe off Amazon and it runs fine. But I don't like running the game on a laptop.

I just purchased a new HP desktop, Windows 7, 6 GB RAM, 2.8GHz

The game crashes at the EA Logo. By the way, it's not letting me install that update!

You appear to already have an updated game (1.1.641.0). Some downloaded versions come with the updates. As for the crashes, you might check through for some possible suggestions.

Let's review the game's update status:

1,1,638 means the boxed game with the basic EP1 patch installed;

1,1,640 is the boxed game with both published patches installed;

1,1,641 is the downloaded digital game with all patches applied and it operates without a disk in the drive.

SC4 will not run without accelerated graphics and sound. If you have not got the drivers loaded for either of them you will crash on start up. Run dxdiag and make sure everything is cool.

Also, in your machine's graphics control set up make sure that all 3D features are set to 'application selected' or words to that effect. This legacy game hates new graphics cards.

I actually downloaded and installed a new copy. It looks like I'm okay on the drivers. Not sure where to check the graphics control. How do I change the command line options?

Don't do that. Move them to another folder. The simplest test is to rename your regions and plugins folders to <name>.old and start the game. It will create the default regions from the backups in Program Files, and an empty Plugins folder. If you can then open Timbuktu, you will know that the game is OK.

Well, it's Timbuktu that the game crashes on. It's frustrating, because I've gotten this game to work on another computer with Windows 7.

Did you try to open any other region? or don't you get the chance?

Have you tried running from an administration account? A regular user account?

Have you made any changes in your Program Files area?

There is one more faint hope that I can think of. Uninstall the game. Re-install it and when it asks, remove the <space character>(x86) from the installation target. Some people have had some success with this.

I might have gotten it!

Reading around the web, I saw that someone had a problem with Simcity when their soundcard was not plugged in.

Checking my soundcard, I saw that no device was plugged in. So, I plugged in external speakers and....voila!!! Haven't actually tried gameplay yet. But it's letting me load regions now.

Well, it pays to read the box. If you don't have the box, you should be aware that most games do need full sound and graphics. It's amazing what plugging in all the hardware will do.
