By using various SimMars props, I made a set of plopable decorative buildings. They're part of Barsoom Project, so I'll release them too. This is not the final shape. Maybe I'll make more lots or change the exist ones. The set includes apartment buildings, small houses, warehouses, houses for desert sceneries, underground plazas, domed parks, floating spacecrafts, spaceports and not only.

Use them as you wish, to build your own futuristic facilities, plazas and anything else.

All stage 3 CO$$$ lots have been reloted. In one of those buildings I tried tariel's idea (from Simpeg.com) about solar panels. Tell me what you think. Maybe I should add solar panels on more Maxis buildings.

I'm working on low density CO$$ lots. Here is something to tease you. This is a stage 3 CO$$ lot. The lot has a medium size parking lot and a boring Maxis building.

No matter what, I have to keep this lot in stage 3. Fortunately, there is a cool SimMars building that can be useful. Have a look at it. This one is on piles and it has a small parking space just under of it.

If a lot (like this one) has a large enough parking space, I always replace it with a large underground garage. Let's do this and place this building over the garage entrance/exit.

So now we have an underground garage with a building hanging over it's entrance/exit, instead of a larger surface parking lot. This means more open space for gardens and lakes!

I see what you are going for: an utopian future society, green, ecological. Your lots are good enough for this purpose. But that martian building you just used looks in  style more like a dystopian BladeRunner-esque  society. It's dark colors do not fit well with white buildings with blue glass.

I have finished with all stage 2 and 3 CO$$ lots. This means that I've finished with all low density CO$$ lots. The new lots will have gardens, parked electric cars, underground garages, lakes with swans and ducks, spaceports, trail paths, floating buildings, parked hydrogen-fueled trucks and skyscrapers. I'm dead serious. Skyscrapers in low density zones! And no, I didn't mod them.

I have finished with all stage 6 R$$$ lots, with tall apartment buildings and redwoods!

Let me be focused on the medium density R$$$ lots. I have reasons.Even if I have reloted all mow density R$$$ lots, Sims are still constructing ugly mansions. Those mansions however are actually medium density, no low density! Just look at them. Ugly architecture, useless fences, everything is wrong.

With Barsoom Project, all those mansions will be kicked out!

You have a really ambitious project here Terring! Looks like your making quite some progress though. I might do the samething with my BATs, make a "new colony" city mod with mostly low to medium density buildings XD It'd be really great to know how managed to replace all the maxis default lots with your ones. I'm happy to announce that I've achieved one of my personal milestones, by reloting all stage 4 R$$$ lots. As you can see, now we have pencil towers, underground homes, modular buildings, communication arrays and roof fountains.

But the best part is that all Maxis mansions, that originally constructed in the low density zones, are finally out of the game! No more huge boxy mansions in our low density neighborhoods. I have discovered that those buildings should been constructed in medium density zones, since they are in stage 4 lots. But you still have them to pop up and ruin your neighborhoods! Not anymore, as you can see. There are a few mods that just blocks those mansions, but mine kills them!

The giant boxy mansions are dead. Let me celebrate it!

Time for something different. If you like it, I'll add it in my Barsoom Project. Here is the military base, made by Maxis and reloted by me. I didn't used all SimMars military equipment available because I didn't want to overload it. This military base is actually an urban outpost, with a heliport, a walker, a mobile laser platform and a few tanks. Just a few stuff.

But how about a powerful army base, with all SimMars equipment and a few extra for variety? How about an epic base? Well, here it is.

An airship fortress, equipped with laser cannons and railguns and... anything else.

Laser trucks, missile launchers and scorpion-like walkers.

More walkers.

Plenty of tanks.

Missile silo, ready for action.

Floating railguns.

Railgun satellites.

And finally, futuristic aircrafts.

By the way, is the layout of my base a bit familiar?

I have finished with all stage 8 R$$$ lots. At last, all R$$$ lots has been reloted!

Yeah, ugly Maxis buildings! Trust me, those monsters are the biggest R$$$ buildings I could use for the 4x2 lots. But at least I rotate them, so their garages will now be connected to the road.

As about the rest of them, we have redwoods and buildings hanging over lakes, plazas and gardens. By the way, from now I'll use a new dependency pack, I like the corners with the benches and the underpasses. I think I'll use them more often.

Please stop complaining for the same thing over and over again! I'm not going to get rid of the Maxis buildings, no matter how ugly and outdated they may be. O.K., I'll explain my strategy for the third and last time!

Every lot has its own stage. In order to prevent messing with the development, I want to keep those stages as they are. If a lot is stage 8, it will be stage 8 again, no matter what. Stage 2 in a Maxis city? Stage 2 in a Barsoomian city as well. I always test

Same with the above Maxis R$$$ apartment buildings. At first, I tried all R$$$ SimMars apartment buildings. None of them was big enough to keep the 4x2 lots in stage 8. The only solution is to use a Maxis building. Not a random one, but a specific one. Believe it or not, this ugly brown buildings is the only R$$$ apartment building that satisfy my criteria. A building that fits in a 4x2 lot and and still keep it in stage 8. All SimMars buildings downgrades those lots in stage 6 or 5.

Here is an another example, a classic one this time. This is a stage 7 R$$ apartment building. In order to not mess with the development of the city, I want this lot to be stage 7, no matter what, or else we may end up with tons of stage 6 and 8 lots but almost no stage 7 lot. Not such a good idea.
 


We need a SimMars building large enough to keep the lot in stage 7, but not too large. Or else, the lot will be upgraded into stage 8. The building should not be too small, or the lot will be downgraded into stage 6. So, is there a SimMars R$$ apartment building, big enough for stage 7? Yes, there is. Let' replace the Maxis building with a SimMars one.



Of course just replacing is not enough. We need to change the lot itself as well, to make it more beautiful and as futuristic as possible.



Much better. I wonder if there are some other SimMars R$$ buildings for stage 7 lots. It'll be very boring to have the same building over and over again. Fortunately, there are a few more SimMars buildings for this task.





Cool, more variety. 3 buildings sharing the "same" lot. You'll not have the same building taking over the city.

But what about lots with no suitable SimMars buildings? Here is an example, a stage 7 R$ apartment building. Yes, I have tested all R$ SimMars buildings, but the results were stage 8 or 6 or 5... you get it.



So the only solution is using a Maxis building, an as suitable one as possible. The brown tenement is too ugly, so let's find a better one. Oh, and let's remove the miserable feel from the lot. Here it is. Trees, underground parking and cleaner ground. In the future, even the poor Sims will need a better place to life... if the monetary system still exist (spoiler alert: NO). To make it more realistic and less possible to be constructed, the building will be appeared only in corner.



So as you can see, no matter what, Maxis buildings will still be constructed. This is mainly because the Maxis team made a huge variety of buildings, while the SimMars team made a less variant collection of buildings. Don't even dare to blame them, because those guys did their best to bring a beautiful set of futuristic buildings. They're not enough, but still is way better than nothing. A few Maxis buildings will still appeared in the residential and industrial zones, surrounded by all those SimMars buildings. However the situation will be worse in commercial zones. Here are all the commercial buildings made by the SimMars team...
 

 

 

 


As you can see, the commercial SimMars buildings are way less than the Maxis buildings, making impossible to have a SimMars building in every single lot. Overall, the only thing I can do is to use as many SimMars buildings as possible. You'll even have the same lot with different SimMars buildings! If that's not possible, I'll use an as modern and beautiful Maxis building as possible. If even that's not possible, let's get it low and use an ugly one. Those buildings will be very few and may add a historic touch in the city. Even in Athens of 3013 we'll have Acropolis. And who knows, maybe the trend of the future is to bring some of the old architecture styles back.

The only way to remove all Maxis buildings is by messing the lots with the iLive Reader. Too risky for me. I don't want to get it to extreme, mostly because I don't want to ruin something in the cities and Simcity itself. After all I'm not a moder. I'm just a single loter, and not even a good one, who struggles to relot thousands of lots by himself. I also want my lots to be pure and natural (that means un-moded), because sometimes the Lot Editor surprises me. Thanks to it, I removed all those ugly mansions from my neighborhoods and bring small skyscrapers in my low density zones.

There is however an alternative one, to use non SimMars futuristic or ultra modern buildings. This will reduce even more the Maxis buildings, but that's all. The Barsoom Project is already too heavy and there is no reason to add even more dependencies and turn it into a new CAM.

I'm giving my best to make something in the way I like it. However happiness is doubles when shared. This is why I like new ideas and suggestions. But I can't stand the same complains over and over and over and over again! From now, the next complains about the Maxis buildings will be ignored. It gets old and I get tired with it.

This is the made by Hydromancerx. As you can see, it's basically a miniature landmark version of the legendary Launch Arcology from Simcity 2000.

The building is decent. It looks like the Arcology is going to be launched to space. The lot however is empty and boring, so let's change it a bit with redwoods, lakes, underground parking e.t.c.

Wow, what a weekend. I have finally finished my English exams for the Lower degree and my plans is to keep on for the Proficiency as well. I feel I was prepared enough for the exams, so let's hope for the best. Let me celebrate it... by making lots!

I'm keep on reloting all Maxis industrial lots those days, but I feel I miss something. Decorative fillers. Inspired by and I've made a small set of fillers for the industrial zones. This includes driving alleys, nuclear factories, empty fillers and freight airships. Most probably I'll make more lots.
