    oh shoot! to be honest, i kinda forgot about checking the city journal forum that i did for new york. i didn't know that there'd be that big of a response. wow... to be honest, ever since the announcement of the expansion and then even the lot editor, i've been hesitant to update my city. i know it's gonna be crazy redoing all the streets to one-way streets, avenues (although in my view the only ones i'll change for that is Park Ave. and West St. only 'cuz those are the only two that have tree and more boulevard structure (the other avenues are more like major roads). but yeah, i guess i'm gonna get cracking on my city again so that i can post new pictures.

    to answer any questions... yeah i do live in new york city. born on st. vincent's which i def. put in the game and grew up in flushing, queens (which i have to do justice!). i go to nyu and now live rite next to the west 4th street station by nyu (i'm a student at the stern school of business at nyu!). i mean yeah i try to emulate the city as much and as exactly as i can from my own experience here (i'm really anal-retentive when it comes to this so yeah i'm kinda perfectionist when it comes to it.) so there are relative similarities to traffic, crime, wealth, etc. i was pleased to find traffic in midtown and i tried to force people to take the bridges which was nice.

    with the lot editor i'm gonna change around the parks with the lot editor. i'm thinking about changing washington square arch to a smaller lot size. i'm def. shrinking the city colleges, especially for nyu and other city colleges (sva, parsons, barouqe, pace, fordham, etc...). that parking lot has to go, at least for manhattan schools. so yeah.. hopefully i'll update soon. sorry no pics today. =P

    well actually i do have the LIE, GCP, Belt, etc... it's jsut that i didn't finish them in queens and brooklyn 'cuz i've only worked on manhattan and the western side of the two boroughs. i'll get shot soon, but i have the LIE turning into the Queens Midtown tunnel, which exits aroudn 34th st, and extending into the lincoln tunnel. grand central turns north in long island city and turns into the triboro bridge as you can see sorta... in the map, then again it's a bit dated too... i'll update my region map again soon.

    but yeah, there's a lot of highways that i gotta put down.. Long Island Expressway, Grand Central Parkway (which turns into Northern State Parkway in LI), Belt Pkwy, Henry Hudson Pkwy/West Side Highway, FDR Drive, Cross Bronx Expressway, Major Degan Expressway, Interboro/Jackie Robinson Parkway, Southern State Parkway, Van Wyck Expressway, Cross Island Parkway, Harlem River Drive, etc. etc. etc. (and that's just New York City... u got Jersey too!)... yeah that's y it's hard to update rite now 'cuz i wanna wait for the transportation pack as well. i'll see what i can do. =P

    That's amazing. I tried to do the same thing once, but although I'm an ok mayor, and have built a couple really big cities without cheating, I suck at the regional thing.

    yep, born and raised in new york city...  i've been hesitant to update my city much with rush hour coming.  one big problem i have with my city was large sections of abandonnment.  to help alleviate the problem i've tried to put some of the subway systems in now.  i've built the lexington (4,5,6) line as well as the a, c, e, b, d, f, v, and 7 lines.   hopefully this will reduce traffic.  i've also tried to make it more authentic, not only by placing stations in their real locations (although real stations don't take up an entire tile, they're on the sidewalk), but i've also tried to make the express lines and local lines, by placing the express line adjacent to the local, meeting only at express stops.  kinda like this...

    59th Street Station (4, 5, 6)
    59thStStation.jpg

    68th Street - Hunter College Station (6)
    68thStStation.jpg

    Grand Central Station (4, 5, 6, 7, and Shuttle to Times Square)
    GrandCentral.jpg

    here's some other pictures of manhattan...

    New York Public Library (42nd St. and 5th Ave.)

    Silvercup Studios (in Long Island City, Queens)

    Central Park Zoo

    i'll see what else i can update, but yeah, once rush hour comes out, it'll be all over!  22.gif

    when RH comes,you have to put the EL trains and also the 125th st station for the 1 train(which you might need some terrain fixture)

    outstanding!!! work!!!!. you've outdone yourself here lol.  pretty good variation in buildings. i like. anywayz one thing im REALLY curious about is your commute time? can you post a pic showing it? seems like it'll be like 100+ considering you have tons of RED stops throughout your roads. have you tried modding it? maybe increase the capacity of your roads abit more so it can decrease some of the traffic.

    quick update: so yeah, i had to go to an old back up of my midtown... sigh... this time, i just used to new surface water lot instead of digging a huge hole in central park.  i redid the subways although i haven't done the 1/2/3/9 lines yet.  also, i was at grand central yesterday so i picked up the free bus maps of all five boroughs, so now i can really get cracking on the other cities... i'll be posting up more pictures soon, maybe even today...

    I've admired your journal from the jump. After seeing your screen shots I went and recreated NYC as well, as a kid growing up I'm sure you had a chance to visit Flushing Meadow Park's - Queens Museum of Art:
    "http://www.queensmuse.org/exhibitions/panorama.html>The Panorama of New York City is really something else! Should you be a tourist or a native you really need to see it. It captures virtually every corner, every building, every site of this city. Also, the lighting changes to show the scenery in a night time sort-of-perspective. City Lights come alive as the room's lights dim. Also note that this structure isn't small at all...'it's rather large. The model is about 9,335 square feet in size."
    <ahttp://www.queensmuse.org/exhibitions/panotransparency.jpg>
    <ahttp://www.queensmuse.org/exhibitions/vacuum-guy-color.jpg>

    To help acheive accuracy in SC4 I came across the http://www.nyc.gov/html/dcp/home.html> NYC Dept. of City Planning website. They go into detail beyond belief. Forget Map Quest all you need is this site, and thehttp://www.mta.info> MTA website for all your Mass Transit maps

    When your at the City planning site roll-over Reference and scroll to Zoning Profiles, it will bring up a map NYC, click on any district to get maps like this : http://www.nyc.gov/html/dcp/pdf/lucds/qn2profile.pdf > Queens District 2

    on that note, PEACE!

    hehe thanks... well... i've done the LIE in LIC so far, 'cuz i haven't really done my queens cities much, but if u see, the LIE leads straight into the Queens Midtown Tunnel (although i have to redo it after my midtown got leveled by the bad save...).  in terms of ground zero... well i mean i can try to make it a construction zone, but for now i just used the Bank of China tower to represent "Freedom Tower" which should be built in a few years.  i also placed some museums and plazas there.  i'll try to post more pcitures up soon... =)

    After getting Rush Hour Tuesday, for the last couple of days I've been re-creating a whole new NYC region. So far I only got the Avenues layed down. I used the same map but I blew it up 2 times its size, its now 8x12 large city maps. You can easily fit in all the Avenues in Manhattan from 1st Ave all the way to 12th Ave.

    yup, i used the farmer's market for union square.  the reason y i didn't use a bigger map was 'cuz, i want to divide up the city into too many cities, 'cuz the industrial areas of the city r kinda split far (jersey, long island city, etc.) so if i divi up the land too much, it'll be hard to keep the rci balance for more centered cities in the middle.  but yeah, expect more updates soon (although i gotta leave for a retreat in a bit)

    each block represents about every two, three, or four blocks in real life.  some of the avenues r combined.
