Simtropolis is SLOW and doesn't respond correctly

For some reason, I can't seem to get around this site easily... if at all. Your server is giving me errors, traffic problems, ping faults, maintainance messages, and failed connections when I try to access any part of Simtropolis.

It's just another day on Simtropolis, right? Nothing really special attracting attention to millions which could possibly clog up the server, right?

Yesterday, my computer's surge protector strip somehow been turn off by the stupid dog walking over it (there's nothing to walk over down there, so why go there?), so I had to turn it back on and restart the whole system and other equipments hooked up to it.

Now I have problems connecting to simtropolis since I connected on March 7th without signing on.

Took forever to sign on today.

What gives? Did my unexpected power off do something strange to my internet connection? I'm running a special broadband cable with 2 Terabytes of Internet Connection Speed or something like that. My modem is super fast for it's type, so there should be no problem. My modem is hooked to a different power strip, so it should be fine. Did the dog inadvertedly fry part of my NIC? Or is something else going on at Simtropolis, something I'm not aware of?

Since Simcity 2013 announcement, there's been a huge increase of traffic, and the servers can't handle it.

We are experiencing increased traffic loads, yes.

(Sidenote, 2 terabyte internet doesn't exist for the consumer market nor would it be worth using as a consumer - most likely you're on a T2 copper line)

Working fine right now. There have been some noticeable improvements when I was on earlier in the day, but around 1800 last night I couldn't get on at all.

What is Sim City 2013? Is it a user-generated game, unofficial and non EA company? Or is it some kind of Forums update? I just need to know if it's a real game to be released soon or is a game in the process and who's it being made by.

Does the updates include being able to upload a Photo? (Like, I want to upload my picture that is on my avatar). I have a blank profile picture when I log in or look at it, and it really looks too plain. Or, like most other forums, is it a non-fixable problem that I will forever have a blank face?

You may want to take these questions to another topic. Simcity 2013 is a new Simcity made by Maxis. Go read the topics in the Somcity 2013 forum if you're curious.

You already can upload a photo for your avatar, you have one right now! The blank face is your personal picture, you can change that in your profile.

New but semi-related issue: for the last two days, whenever I try and look at all the files a user has uploaded onto the STEX, I am for whatever reason search-limited from March 23, 2011. Any of their files that were uploaded and last updated before that aren't listed- with Simgoober, for example, only his aquarium shows up on his list, even though I know he has pages of content. I know T Wrecks has a number of great apartments, but since his uploads were before March 23, 2011, they aren't coming up on his upload list. This is, needless to say, incredibly frustrating.

I've tried to get rid of this search limit, but can't figure out how. Any suggestions? Is this an error on my end, or a problem with the STEX right now?

I've had issues with waiting for the site to load up for a very long time, after five minutes of patient waiting, I give up and don't visit ST that day. Kinda sucks, but after awhile, you get used to it.

Oh come on now, are you really gonna blame this on the new simcity release?

how often the site has been changed.

Now i know we're not supposed to say anything 'bad' about simtropolis and

quite possibly this message won't even show up but blaming the overall slowness

of this site on an upcoming release? Get real.

Just remember, folks. Simptropolis is a free website, with free content, paid for by, for the most part, one person. Sites of this magnitude usually have at least a few people on staff and lots of revenue to help pay for bandwidth, hardware upgrades and more. We can only use our best patience to privilege ourselves with the use of Simtropolis.

I think I've said all that before, but perhaps in a different thread.

So, here we are, and guess what? We really are in Kansas, Toto. Auburn, Kansas to be exact. And with a new look, and on a different server. Not bad for a four or five day upgrade, eh? Do we call this ST8.0?

There will probably be a few frogs for a while, but have patience folks. This has been accomplished by our faithful Dirk and whoever he managed to lassoo into helping. While the shakeout cruise goes on, let us not leap all over the long-suffering staff.

Looks great so far.
