    Well, the number in 'Language' determines which folder to look in for SimCityLocale.dat, your date and money format and the side you drive in (probably more stuff, but that's all I've determined).
    1 stands for the 'English' folder, m/d/y $xx and right hand driving.
    13 (19 in decimal) stands for 'UKEnglsh' and left hand driving.
    5 stands for 'Spanish', d/m/y xx$ and right hand driving
    I haven't tried all the possible numbers, but you get the idea, right?

    You're welcome Karybdis. Perhaps someone with more programming experience might want to make it more user friendly, it shouldn't be very hard.
    Anyway you should know that this was initially discovered by accident, when trying to find a fix for an even more annoying issue (check my sig)

    yea. I've heard about that. I'm looking into graphics rules also since that's the only other place besides the exe this would be controlled from

    Actually, the graphics rules file doesn't help out a lot.  The only thing I've been able to do with it is to change some of the things that dissappear at different zoom levels.  The one time I adjusted this, the changes were more annoying than helpful, because the effects are just too broad.

    I have started to look into a sollution using another file that comes with the LET.  The file itself doesn't make any changes to the game, but I believe it will help to identify what IS controlling the 'which props show up when' for each lot.  I will be posting my discoveries in the thread that rendermad has in his sig.  Unfortunately, the LET doesn't work on the computer I'm on right now, so I won't be able to start until this evening.8.gif

    Here's a list of some of the possible languages, and their corresponding folder:
    Registry value - Folder
    1 - English
    2 - French
    3 - German
    4 - Italian
    5 - Spanish
    6-7 ?? (I couldn't recognize the languages)
    8 - Dutch
    9 ??
    A (10decimal) - Portgese
    13 (19decimal) - UKEnglsh

    They will all have a date and money format corresponding to each country.
    Remeber, you can actually use one country's language and another's date/money/driving side format.
    Your sims can speak italian and drive on the left you want to (just place the italian 'simcitylocale.dat' file into the ukenglsh folder and change the reg value to 13)
    EDIT: Added "Dutch" to the table

    Should I in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Maxis/SimCity 4/1.0 change the LanguageName? And if not what does it do?
    By the way 8 = Dutch

    It doesn't do anything AFAIK, at least I haven't changed it.
    Still says "English UK" even though I use the US english version.
    Let me know if you notice anything.

    I have the Singapore version of Sim City 4 (I got it imported... was cheap). I had to create a "UKEnglsh" folder and copy the DAT file from "English" into it.

    I changed the reg to 13 instead of 1, esentially the opposite to everything you did and now my sims drive on the left, thanks.

    Btw, my Language says "English US", but it doesn't seem to make a difference to anything.

    By the way, 6, 7 and 9 are probably Korean, Chinese and Thai, I have those languages on my version. I also have Polish and Finnish, but I dunno what they come under.

    It doesn't seem to work for me.8.gif

    I have made a 'UKEnglish' folder in my Simcity 4 folder, moved the DAT (simcitylocale) file into it, and changed the language to '13'

    Any ideas why?

    You're folder has to be name "UKEnglsh", not "UKEnglish" no i 24.gif.
    It wasn't a typo, the names of the folders have to be exactly as I wrote on the list.

    Fantastic - now I don't have to "think" every time I place a bus stop - I live in Australia and we drive on the left.

    I'm in Australia too, and luckily all my Sims drive on the left hand side of the road. The only real (minor) annoyance is that traffic lights face the right hand side of the road, so that oncoming traffic on the left hand side don't see the lights, those poor Sims have to crane their necks out their driver side windows to get a look at the traffic lights.. hehe.. I'm guessing there's no way to change that? 3.gif

    I've noticed that some people have bought the game in either europe or australia and have installed the English version (Which is actually the UK English version) and the cars drive on the left side of the road, but would prefer to have them drive on the right.
    I have come up with a solution for this issue, involving using the Registry Editor. I am not very experienced with programming so I haven't managed to come up with some way of making this easier, but it still works.
    Create a folder in your SimCity 4 folder (probably Program Files/SimCity 4/)
    named English. Copy the SimcityLocale.dat file from the language you wish the game to be in into that folder.
    Open the Registry editor (press the start button on your taskbar, select run.. then type regedit )
    Navigate to the folder under the following path:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Maxis/SimCity 4/1.0
    Double click where it say Language, a window will open up, replace the highlighted number with a 1. Click OK. Close the Registry Editor.
    That should do it.
    It has been confirmed that the fix works for SC4 with or without Rush Hour.

    EDIT: I've changed the instructions according to the some new information by DangerDave

    oookkk; thanks to the7trumpets for pointing me to this thread. And thanks to golfbunny for moving [& linking] this thread to here.
    I searched ages for this thing, expecting it to be one of the Modding forums, only to come up with nothing much that'd help......I would never, ever, have thought it'd be in the Bugs forum7.gif.

    Hmmm, I hadn't seen this old thread before.  I'd like to echo braddie's comments about the traffic lights (and highway signs etc.).  Is there anybody out there who can fix it so they show up on the 'correct' side of the road for those countries that drive on the left.

    Maybe because there are players of the game in Poland and Finland? For example, I live in Finland and normally speak Finnish. And also the hard work of translators would have been done for no reason. Look at the game; there are so many sentences and words that translating has been really hard. I have personally translated one freeware game and it's manual to Finnish, and it took me a week of work. And that game has quite small amount of things to be translated. So think about SC4 translators. And also I know that in Finland are many players. There's one Finnish Maxis games - and especially SC4 - fansite, which has over 300 registered users. And I sometimes let few of my friends to play SC4 on my computer.

    EDIT after long time: argh... I looked more closely, and propably I just understood wrong way... Sorry if this offeneded anyone... 15.gif'

    I set the registry entry to 1 so I'd get English language but cars on the right side. Indeed the cars now drive on the right side but the language in SimCity4 is not english anymore. It's all in Swedish. Which would be fine, since I'm swedish.. but I want english language on things in simcity, because otherwize I find it difficult to follow tutorials and stuff like that, which are all written in english.
    Everything in the game is renamed now. Even the RCI indicator has a new name.
    I could change the registry entry back to what it was before I edited it (13) but then I'd be back with left hand side driving and I don't want that. =/

    Any ideas?

    With the Registry, and the Game; there are two things at play here;

    When you change the Language key value in the Registry, apart from changing the Side of the Road sims drive on, it also changes which Folder to look at for the Language.
    To fix this though;
    -Goto where your SC4/RH is actually installed. This will be something like ...C:\Programs\SimCity 4\ [depending on where you installed the game].
    -Look for the Language folder; if the value was on 13, this sounds like you might have the UK version of the game, so the Language folder would probably be UKEnglsh [without quotes; & that's not a typo].
    -Create a new folder; English [it has to be exact], & create it so that it is here: C:\Programs\SimCity 4\English [again, depending on where the game is installed].
    -Place the SimCityLocale.dat file in this new Folder.

    This should fix it. If it doesn't, you may need to locate & copy the English SimCityLocale.dat file from the CD to the newly created folder.

    I've been trying this for ages and have found the following corresponding values:
    (hex - short name)
    1 = English
    2 = French
    3 = German
    4 = Italian
    5 = Spanish
    6 = Swedish
    7 = Finnish
    8 = Dutch
    9 = Danish
    A = Portgese
    B = Czech
    C = Hebrew
    D = Greek
    E = Japanese
    F = Korean
    10 = Russian
    11 = SChinese
    12 = English ?
    13 = UKEnglsh
    14 = Polish
    15 = English ?
    16 = Norwgian
    17 = English ?
    18 = English ?
    19 = English ?
    20 = English ?
    21 = English ?
    22 = English ?
    23 = English ?
    24 = English ?
    25 = English ?
    26 = English ?
    27 = English ?
    28 = English ?
    29 = English ?

    These were created by changing the registry to each hex value and, with a file monitor, see which language directory SimCity used. All of the ones marked English ? were all accessing the `English' directory.

    Short names of each language. This also must be the directory name in SimCity 4 base dir for each new language.

    English
    UKEnglish
    French
    German
    Italian
    Spanish
    Dutch
    Danish
    Swedish
    Norwgian
    Finnish
    Hebrew
    Russian
    Japanese
    Portuges
    Polish
    SChinese
    Korean
    Hindi
    Arabic
    Blgarian
    Cyrillic
    Ukranian
    Czech
    Greek
    Hngarian
    Icelandc
    Romanian
    Latin

    SFrench
    CFrench
    BFrench
    SGerman
    SItalian
    BDutch

    I hope to update the list fully and release a program which will let the user change the language easily.

    so there is a quick way to do Right to Left, as that I just rebought SC4 Deluxe (last copy was nicked) and I thought it was England, but it was not, the company sold me a US Copy, took it back, and they have said that it is not the one they sold me, and kicked me out, so all my bus modds are incorrect.
