So sorry but this game will turn out to be a disaster

Before you mark me as a nagging hater that always hates new things, believe me, I am not one of those.

I was around when SC:S was announced, always full of optimism always arguing with people who hated the game even before it released.

And when it released, I bought it, didn't find it that great but squezzed all the entertainment out if it I could and went on.

Same with City-life 2, that later became CXL. I was so optimistic about it. Finally, a worthy replacement for SC4. And even today it's half decent to me, I dont hate it, even though this place is crouded with people that hate it.

I always examined the "Simcity 5 roumors thread" hoping for new info...

And now that the SC2013 is announced, I must say I'm not that excited as I thought I would be even weeks ago.

The only positive thing I got from this game is it's modding supportive.

So much things wrong with it.

Where do I start?

Ah yes, multiplayer exclusive.

Yes multiplayer seemed exciting years ago when CXL announced it will be fully online.

But as if MC bancrupcy didn't shake up anything, Maxis announces the same. It's as if everyone at maxis has an alzheimers.

Then this Glassbox thing everyone is so excited about but makes me want to puke watching the Developer video presentations. 14.gif

Then this Clean city vs. Industrial city.

Maxis should try to simulate reality, not make a virtual one, like if Anno 2070 wasn't the worst citybuilding game since SC:S.

There are no completely clean cities and no completely industrial pullution blackholes.

ALL cities. I repeat. ALL cities should have a balance between them. Not exclusiveness to one or another.

Changing those awesome graphs from SC4 which I liked so much for some pathetic info-graphs or wathever is such a treason for me from maxis, that I get this pain of magnitude like being kicked in the privates.

But the biggest shock got me when I saw what the pre-order features.

Super-hero HQ, evil villan lair. This to me is such a horrible pain I don't even want to think about this game at the moment or I could risk a brain tumor.

It's as if Maxis decided... who cares about real world. Let's make this game look awesome for teenage 13 year olds.

Thanks for reading this. I'm probably off to do something productive outside or else this negativity I got from Simcity is going to eat me up from inside.

Yes I think you really need to stop thinking about Simcity otherwise it's clearly the brain tumor for you and for us too! :meh:

Sorry to appear harsh, but all these predictions and depressions about "what the game will be" make me sick and sad. Currently, we know nothing about the visual aspect of the game, the modding possibilities, how the multiplayer will work...

So stay cool, relax & please wait. :whatevs:

Far too soon to say this kind of thing, if ever.

I don't fully understand the Glassbox idea of how to simulate, but since it is a different approach, I am curious enough to wait.

Meanwhile, those who know the least will as usual say the most.

As opposed to the pre-teen 13 year olds... o.O:uhm:

You shouldn't let a PC game get to you so much. It can't be good for your health...

Can you just stop repeating the word "Societies" it seems you were obsessed with that game, SCS is PAST, get over it, it's almost obvious that EA won't make the same mistake twice, especially for the fact that this time Maxis is developing the game.

EA knew that a proper SimCity that would meet market demands for the genre was not possible in 2007, when SC:S was released, due to hardware limitations. It's only now that we have the hardware that can properly support a full-3D SimCity experience, which is what the market was demanding even before SimCity 4 was released.

SC:S was an attempt to create a "spinoff" in the interim. They weren't trying to make a continuation of the main SimCity lineage. Much of the furor about that game was simply because a lot of folks didn't understand how steep the hardware requirements were for a proper new SC, and thought that SC:S was going to be SC5. I knew that once the time came that hardware could support the experience, they'd make an earnest go at it. By all appearances, they are. So what if they mentioned "character" of a city? That technically existed with SC4, too, and all other previous versions of SC, and pretty much all RL cities. And just because they've mentioned "multiplayer" doesn't mean this is automatically going to turn into the floptastic pile of crud that the original CXL was with its ill-conceived Planet Offer mode.

It's true we don't have too many details yet. It's true the graphics are still a bit rough, but graphics engine polishing is usually one of the last phases of development on a game. My advice: calm the heck down. Stop being paranoid and crying wolf . . . er . . . SC:S2. Be patient.

Tarkus:

As stated in our past conversations - You bring rational and calmness to these forums.... may your days upon the earth be many my friend!

As for this thread.... The game looks great, the simulation engine looks great, the possiabilities may even be endless -- Give Maxis a chance to WOW us as they did with SimCity, SimCity 2000, SimCity 3000 and SimCity 4!!

We all seem to be losing our heads worrying that they're gonna betray our hopes and fulfill our fears!

I do think though it will either be an amazing game that we nearly all love dearly, or a complete flop that only a few people like. So far, it looks nice and detailed, and seems to be heading to a nice place.

We have to remember though, Societies was Tilted Mill and had nothing to do with Maxis. As Tarkus has said many a time, Maxis know what they are doing! They made the SC4 we all treasure, so they are unlikely to disappoint...

We know very little at this point:

We know they are going for a Tilt-Shift art direction (intro video)

We know maxis wants to do modding (I suspect there might be resistance from EA on this) (Rock paper shotgun)

We know maxis is focusing on single player experience (Rock paper shotgun)

We know the engine is different now modeling more basic units and letting the complex system emerge, so bottom up instead of top down. (GDC)

That is about it at this time.

Surely the starter of this thread didn't choose a writing style that could cast himself, and his opinions, on a positive light.

And it's probably too soon to become convinced of such a definite prediction or tentative evaluation about how the game might be.

However, i'd say that he mentioned some points about multiplayer, city dynamics (e.g. clean city vs dirty city) and graphs, that might turn as downsides for a chunck of potential future players and buyers if they are realized.

"[Ocean] We’re making SimCity, not some dopey casual game.

The most important thing is the integrity of the simulation underneath it, the stuff that represents the systems that make up a real city. I don’t want to enforce sustainable design principles in the game – I want them to emerge as natural consequences of your interaction with the simulation.

If you don’t deal with your sewage, with traffic congestion, with walkability & transit, with ground and air pollution – your city will reflect that! And there are lots of people who will want to explore the simulation and see what happens when they do. Making some polluted, congested, urban nightmare is a total win condition, as far as I’m concerned."

    hey now.

Now that I'm reading my post, I'm laughing at myself. I'm usually not that negative

When I read the responses from Maxis here, I became optimistic again.

they confirmed singleplayer, so that's awesome 44.gif

Villans & superman will only be in limited edition 44.gif

charts, and graphs will be present, just in a cooler way than before 44.gif

Sorry guys, I completely renounce my first post 43.gif

Have a think before you type, if you did this thread probably wouldn't exist and you'd have saved some valuable bandwidth.

Well we have over a year to speculate and for them to present to us what the game will be like. Then, given SC4's longevity, we have a decade to make the game what we really want. So, sit back and relax, much can change in a year and beyond (with the addition of modding et. Al.).

    Standby.

Also it should be stated Idcaf, that while your city takes on a flavor, a Industrial style city can still be clean or dirty. The trash will still show up in the streets or not dependent on your ability to control it. City themes is more about giving your city a sort of identity. Much like the difference between Detroit and Seattle.

Thankfully we know this due to a awesome review of the Glassbox engine. Well worth watching the videos.

I cant say for sure the game will be awesome or not. I am extremely optimistic though.

Oh and I am not attacking you. I really wanted you to know that bit of info.
