So if you hibernated you could go from the computer being completely off to a 1+ million tile city loaded in sc4 in like 1 second flat with the ssd drive. :ninja:

One wonders why the proponent doesn't have any CTDs? What are your system specifications?

Me? This rig is only an e6750 dual core, win xp 32, 3.4gb ram, and a 8800gts.

I disable it down to one core, and set priority to high and my game absolutely never crashes. I literally leave SC4.exe running 100% of the time my PC is on, unless of course I have to fiddle with something like the NAM folder.

The only way I've experienced SC4 crashes:

1) My attempts to install SC4 on a rig with Windows 7 64 bit (I eventually gave up out of frustration)

2) That odd glitch where the game will crash if you select over transit enabled bats (which I hope most sc4 players know to avoid)

It takes my new Asus G74Sx laptop aproximately 30 seconds to get to the region screen, and probably just shy of that to open a city tile.

I only have 4.5GB of plugins installed but they are all compressed using the datpacker which made a huge difference. Prior to datpacking all my plugins, it would take anywhere from 1 to 2 minutes to load to the region screen.

But you know even at 30 seconds, it seems like an eternity in todays modern age of computers.

Asus G74Sx

Win 7 64bit

8GB System RAM

Nvidia GTX 560m W/2GB Dedicated video RAM

i7 2.2GHz with Burst to 3.0GHz

4.5GB datpacked plugins.

As far as crashes are concerned, I think my left hand spends more time on the Ctrl+S key than anywhere else while I'm playing SC4. It's an absolute crash-a-holic on my new laptop, where as on my desktop, which is an AMD based computer and also Windows 7 64bit, it's absolutely rock solid and only crashes if I introduce a bad plugin to the game.

I'm terribly saddened that it crashes as frequently as it does on my new laptop, it's one of the few games that I wanted to play on this thing, meanwhile it plays the newest games like Skyrim with all ultra high settings and performs at about 30 to 60FPS and is as rock solid as SC4 is on my desktop computer.

Kind of makes me want to cry :(

For me, it would take about 45 seconds to a whole minute for the game to load on my Windows 7 system.

I clocked the last startup from a CTD at 2:48.5. From desktop to region it was 2:07.5 and another 41 seconds flat to my second largest town (58k). Oddly enough sometimes it'll take on upwards of 5-7 minutes to go from desktop to city.

I used to play on desktop PC which crashed all the time. I got a notebook and it works better on that. Loading times are a bit longer but nothing to complain about.

When i start the game the first city tile i open takes a minute or two but when i start going into other city tiles it takes half the time. Weird how it's only the first tile that takes ages!

That's because the shared pages for custom content are still around when you switch. The first time they have to be constructed.

3.09Gb of plugins, 6:45 to the region view, 9:28 to large tile loaded. I may need to start datpacking.

AMD E-350 1.60GHz

4 Gb RAM (3.62Gb Usable)

Win 7 64-bit

Radeon HD 6310

Exe shortcut mods: Custom Res, fullscreen, Single CPU, Direct X mode, intro off

Game is rock solid, only crashes I get are from being stupid with puzzle pieces...

Well, since this thread has been activated again, I'll run a test right now ...

45 seconds to the region screen including loading the wine layer for Linux.

2 minutes and 40 seconds to load my largest city with over 1M Sims.

I have just under 1GB of plugins, thoroughly cleaned.

Here is a complete description of my hardware.

Running Ubuntu 14.04 with all the latest fixes (vanilla) and wine-1.7.25.  Speaking of which, I am just loading a new update with a new Kernel, so will have to boot for the second time today.  This was a good time to test because the system is very clean.

my HP lap top windows 7 loads to a city in about 2 mins.  Once inside the city I cant scroll or rotate the camera it will take about a half hour for it to recover from such an action.  The game loads and opens a large city on my emachines desk top xp in about 5 to6 mins and plays the game very well gets choppy at anything over 200.000 population but that's fine with me.

I noticed that my loading times went from 2 minutes total to about 6-8 minutes after upgrading from NAM 31 to NAM 32. Same computer, same plugins (~600MB).

Not that I'm complaining... Thank you NAM team!

The latest NAM (32) selectively compiles the controller.  I don't load RHW, RRW, Project Symphony nor GLR with the result that my controller is only 9MB.  If you don't use all the bits and pieces of the NAM currently, it is worth doing a custom install to cut down on the size of this item.  The base controller with the whole shebang is very much larger.  Since I don't have to sit through all those RUL interpretations, it is also faster.

This was done by the fellows that make the installer.  Well done!
