Nice update, (what else can I say!!!), I always enjoy seeing the monastery in someones city and in Kwakelaars Bay it fits perfectly.
Like the experiment with the triway, is it actually helping out with the congestion?
And you have passed the 2 mil sims in the region, seems you are doing very well for yourself.

As always your enthusiasm is refreshing.

Wow, seven pages later and I wish there was seven more!

I greatly enjoy the planning and symetry of a grid city.  I have been working on my own SuperCluster, which is not a grid, but rather a self-contained transplantable unit that can be replicated and spread across the region like a growing colony of bacteria.  I would love if you took a peek at that thread sometime and gave me your thoughts on how to better it:

First problem is definitely going to be mass transit, that's for sure.

Thank you so much for writing this up frndofyaweh, it has definitely made my night to be able to read this!

I definitely hope you continue making updates.

Wow. I just resd this thread and got a ton out of it! Thanks so much!! I agree with you that the heart of the game is a puzzell of multiple layers and that the grid is the most perfect solution to it given the confines, or rules, of this medium. I also think that is what gives this game it`s apeal to so many.

I have had SC4 for a while and have been doing grids to learn the mechanics of the game, but not to your extent. I will be working them out with more depth now!!44.gif

Sproxxx: Your welcome and I like your name; it makes for a great, radical font style! More fun at the Gate, below.

Voar Tok: PM me when you start your CJ, I will make a visit.

Kwakwlaar: Your welcome. nothing anyone has to say though. I'm just running out of name ideas. Hehee.

Triway: yes it does seem to have a positive effect. There is some traffic(light orangish), but I lined the tri-way with commercial and it seems to be thriving.

2 million: Still haven't satisfied myself with populations. I think we could get more than 1 million in one large city. Regionally, I have nine large tracts, so I was hoping to fill it up to 10 million total.

The Foot: Thanks Eric. Welcome to ST and to Waffle World Region.
I saw your thread. I gave up on one-ways, but am thinking of trying them again, per some great advice by ST members.
Really my best advice is, to build the way you like, whatever makes you happy. For me it is symmetry and patterns, for some it's a beautifully sculpted shoreline that meanders in a natural way, intead of absolute straight, like mine. Circles or half circles, like yours, could produce very interesting results and may even make civic coverage easier to handle.

No worries, updates are still coming along. Glad you liked this experiment in gridding. It really is my biggest success with this concept. Possibly, there are many other ways that work better.

TheGrindre: Welcome back in Grindre. Yep, it's a little go-kart track. I made in the LE, with other BATters' props and textures. Not very well done, but still fun to make it.

Compromise: A- from SPES! I am honored Compromise! Thank you for the great Christmas card too, friend. Although I am a bit late; welcome back to WW.

Zookreeper: Welcome to Simtropolis Zookreeper! Glad you liked my experiment. I still feel there may be better combinations. I am still working on that and now getting into highways more.

I really like your sig quote Zook! Hey, I qualify for that!

Merry Christmas to all of you and all of ST,
Now it's time to take down our tree.
    So happy New years instead,
    Is a better decree.
    We'll toast the Dirktator,
    For inventing ST!

I will edit to this later. I seem to have misplaced my images??

wowie 1.gif yours is one of the first threads I've read here and it took me a full hour! Really great experiment and I love your enthusiasm, very infectious.

You seemed to have gone a little off topic towards the end, but 3+ months since the start of this thread excuses that I guess lol.

I think what you have really proved here is that since the game is based on a grid, the most efficient placement of high density transportation is of course in a grid, and since this game (and the universe for that matter) is based on beautiful mathematics, thats what the hardcore areas of your city must come down to. I think that this game is probably most effective using your grid patterns in the central areas and then branching outwards using the tree-like patterns in the suburbs as someone much further up the thread well described.

Very good read, eductational stuff 1.gif Lots of praise for the time and good will you put into this, nice man!

Hello, I have quietly following this thread for a little while, and I'd just like to say: This is fantastic, keep up the good work! It is an helpful CJ and very insightful to the mechanics of the game. It has got me thinking of how to better plan my cities to maximise the efficiency of traffic flow. Keep at it!44.gif

Your right on target, Mr Fingers. That paragraph summed up my experiment and tutorial pretty well too.

Fingers, You seemed to have gone a little off topic towards the end, but 3+ months since the start of this thread excuses that I guess lol.

Yeah, you are right agian. Lets be honest though, I was milking it a bit there towards the end,9.gif. that's why I am going to end it, right about here, I think.

Hoomfie and Fingers: glad you both enjoyed it so much. I really think those who are interested in gridding have gotten the grand scheme of it, so there really isn't much more to tell.

Thanks to everyone, who kept dropping in to visit. Every post was worthwhile to read and reply to. Some of you have even greater ideas than mine and I learned alot form everyone.

This is how I build in sections (below). Pause, build out and up, give that block(neighborhood)all it will possibly desire and unpause.

Notice one block is not fully built? That is where I am testing some BATs for Mickebear. Very cool looking style too!

2.2 million. I will continue playing this region and cities, even if I do not upload shots, etc, here. After all, playing game is still Oodles O fun!

    WOW!!!!

It has taken me quite some time today to fully read all 8 pages on this.  It has really inspired me to bring my SC4 back out of the shelving and try some new approaches on my techniques at city building.

Thanks for all the hard work there with your experiments and letting all of us here at ST know how it went about.

    Great work.

Congratulations so far, your experimentation has been very informative and might take note of some things to use in my cities.

Question, in your river cities are you going to try passenger ferry as a MT option as well.

also a suggestion maybe in a future city try and incorporate all uses of MT available i.e. bus, sub/el, ferry, rail, highways, and see how long you can get commute times in a big population city.

BOY! The forums are lightning fast today! Totally wicked!

Sproxxx: Thanks again for taking part. Just came in to say howdy. And still weaving my griddled web of sims.

Compromise: what is th sea monster doing? running from the submarine in the image below it.18.gif Glad you noticed that detail. Your sincere visits shine through, friend. Glad we can chat together and thanks for being a participant in WW's experiments.

Jacqulina: Hello there Jacqi! Glad you have enjoyed the ride through Waffle World.

Kwakelaar said; Great experiment, and thanks for your enthusiasm around here.

Prince Motile, not from Pandora's Star though, is he?

Kwake: Heheee, no. Just the meaning of the word motile, was my only intention. I sometimes mix words and languages though.

Word play is one of my hobbies(too many hobbies46.gif ). Every once in awhile, I get lucky enough to create some good ones. Grammatical puns are throughout my posts, in all the forums. Either, I am just more boring than humorous, or no one is catching on to them.9.gif

Tanc24: Thanks for commenting Tanc. I believe there is a thread somewhere here, where you can request a bannner. not sure which forum it was.

Tchaos713: Well, glad you liked it so much and thank you for being a part of my experiment.

just had to let it go now. There really isn't any thing more to do, but just enjoy the adventure from here on. I will be repeating grids until I hit 10 million with nine large residential cities in the region.

Bamakid325: you are welcome bamakid and thank you for the uplifting comments!

I am glad to add another spark to the, ever growing, developments with SC4.

Yes, I feel I still have only scratched the surface of this grid concept. Imagine if I can find the correct formula for all those other MT systems to work flawlessly as one. I just feel like I am still missing the whole solution.

Never have built a ferry system before. Have no clue, what the ferry boat even looks like animated. hehee.

Thanks for dropping in though and glad you got some good information from this experiment,...ahem, tutorial deal.

I found and opened this thread for the first time this morning.  Unfortunately, I only had time to read page 1 so far so I'll probably comment on things as I read them.  Hope that's ok. 41.gif

I hope you keep this journal going.  Thanks for the info I've read so far.  Two thumbs way up!  44.gif44.gif  I'll post more as I read your pages.

I have really learnt a lot about the game and how too make a succesful city here at this thread. Great job, frndofyaweh.

Psst... By the way, I might try to make a region like this too, just for fun. But all the credits belongs to you.

This one definatelly deserves to be able to be printed out, that's why I've copied all the main stuff into a pdf file for my own use. But, and if frndofyaweh doesn't mind, I'll make it available for anyone who wants to print this tutorial as well.

This is the direct link to the file:

    Wow, I'm totally dizzy 47.gif

Relativly new on Simtropolis, and completely knocked over by the weight of information. I have spend most of this evening shift at work reading trough all eight pages of your CJ. It's incredible good.  44.gif

Thank you so much, your analytical thinking is outstanding. I call you if ever I have a newspaper to print!!

Keep the updates coming slowly, don't wanna loose my job.
