Worst time your game crashed?

The worst time my Simcity 4 game crashed was a few minutes ago when I was preparing Linus Settlement for a new update. I made a sim called Deuce Flyer, built a dock, then suddenly the whole thing crashed.

Now when was the worst time your Simcity 4 game crashed?

Building a forest full of individual seasonals near my farm, and I finally finished, then I move and it crashes.

I don't know. For me the game crashes always on awkward moments, like when you just finished some freeway interchanges and decorations, building complex things like custom airports, city expansions, etc...

I once brought a city up from 10000 people to 200000. I built a modular airport, highway and many other things. I completely forgot to save... and then it crashed.

Crashed in the middle of a save of a 5 million population city with a completed airport.

Small wonders why it became corrupted and I had to load a one-month old backup, a 4.1 million population city with a half-completed airport.

Then, a few weeks later, just as I hit 4.8 mil population and was nearly done with the airport, it crashed in the middle of a save again.

I raged.

The latest crash is always the worst. Sometimes I get so involved in something I am doing that's fairly elaborate that I forget to do an in-game save. And then it gets me.

EA's cupidity is the cause of all this. Rush a program onto the market to meet some impossible marketing deadline is the way programs are destroyed. Another two or three months of QA, even if they had stopped development, would have prevented all of this. And now they have the gall to abandon us and do nothing when a little fixing and a recompile would solve a lot of the problems. We have been consigned to EA's private hell, and I will never, ever purchase a game with their name on it again. Bite me once, shame on you. Bite me twice, shame on me.

The worst of all this, is they even refuse to release the source to people who are willing to do the fixes for them free. Grrrr.

It occurs to me to ask whether build version 1,1,641 is just patched or a recompile. If they did that and didn't fix the zero pointer crashes, this indicates very small thinking.

I once brought a city up from 10000 people to 200000. I built a modular airport, highway and many other things. I completely forgot to save... and then it crashed.

I use Daeley's Save Alarm Mod ( over at the BSC LEX. You have to be separately registered at the BSC Lot Exchange to see the download button.)

Trans.gifLot Description:

Updated to include current time and total time played since starting the game (20/03/07)

10 minutes after playing the game, you safety advisor will pop on by reminding you to save your city. From then on you can choose the delay before he pops in again (20, 30, 45 or 60 minutes). This should be a nifty tool for those players that lose track of time while playing (you know you do) and should prevent some of the occasional frustration of a game crash after three straight hours of playing without saving.

Hope this will save someone else some angst!

I save regularly. I save like almost 40 times a day when I play this, because I don't want what I made to crash, but still important things crash. Like I was waiting for my city to change seasons for me to plant and just in the change it crashes. Or when I just built a new road or neighborhood. It plot's against me. :P

Be careful of anthropomorphizing a computer or a program. They are things and have no volition nor intention. Just chalk it up to playing in the traffic and bad luck.

I have this mod. Doesn't help for me. I turned off pop-up messages, since it becomes anoying when advisors pop-up at every minor problem...

My worst time was this one time when I was experimenting with the GLR, built a huge network in my large city, took me almost an hour, then the game crashed

I claim to practice architecture, but in reality architecture practices me.

1200+ hrs in C:S and counting.

Why on Earth would they fix a game, when they can continue to charge money for a defective product? Surely by now more and more people have faster computers and newer OS's, and will be suckered into buying this game for the skin-deep beauty. But I'll be damned if they release it as open source for people to FIX it and make it something people want! Blasphemy!! :noway:

Keep calm and take photographs.

When a tall skyscraper just started construction, the game crashed before I could save and when I reloaded it a bunch of mom and pop stores developed instead of the skyscraper

Also, another time I was preparing a CJ update, i had to redo it 4 times because each time the game crashed before I could even take the photos.

Indeed! Programmers can always rely on the "Processors, Memory and Disk Space/Speed will always be cheap!" and "OS developers will always ensure our software is compatible!" slogans. The more shovelware we shove onto the market, the more cash cows! Screw quality assurance, it would sap resources away from creating more cash cows!

Besides, what if they use SC4's source code to create their own games? They would drain sales away from our successful SimCity Societies and Creator games!

My worst crashes happen when my city tile is either stuck with no growth (mostly small towns) for a long while or when it experiences dramatic growth (mid-large cities). It probably happens when I push for more people impatiently (cheetah speed on the simulation) after plopping a lot of items in the city.

Everytime SC4 crashes is a bad time full of shouting and anger!

My friend, dinna fash y'sel'. 'Tis no good for you to raise your blood pressure over a computer program failure that is known to exist. Use the in-game save (CTRL+s) more often and save your energy for something useful.

I made some network changes, upgraded my airport and I finally got a REALLY TALL skyscraper that grew on its own, not a download. And then the game crashes. Sucky thing a bout it is I knew I needed to save it but I guess I was just being too careless.

Just Now.

Finished building a viaduct into the city centre, built a avenue out of town, extended the rail network growth to about 20000, built a spam abboitoir on the edge of town,

CRASH.32.gif

I saved partway through this session, so i hope most of it has been saved
