sblanc1087 - Thanks for the photos, they helped.  I haven't done any searches on for photos yet, so I don't know what's out there, but I can't think of having found many night lighting photos of the Liberty Building.  Do you happen to have any?  I remember I found one good site with about 500 Buffalo pics and like 50 were of that building, but I don't remember any night ones.

Anyways it's time to give my computer a rest, and I need to wake up tomorrow morning!

Err.. have you called a maintanance person about that roof yet?  6.gif  It looks like there was some damage...  You might save that texture for a burned out or rundown model....it would work well for that.

FYI, Wilson Farms is now active on the STEX.

hope that helps...........sorry for the blurryness, my camera and I were on the move at the time. But basically you can see the lighing for the top portion. As for the rest, it was on a sunday and a holiday night, so no other lighting was visible except for the top. The light is a yellow golden light and the light on liberty makes the green show up very well, and the torch of liberty is a blinking light(on both, not sure what color). If you need anyother pictures of anything else Im glad to post and help.1.gif

I think your city hall building is fantastic, however the realistic roof spoils the whole effect, the joys of this game dictate some unusual views that we would never see in real life, otherwise no self respecting architect would show that side of their creations in that condition. I really like the roof effect on the skylight side and on top of the tower, but the other side looks like a mechanics workshop floor.

Yeah I didn't think that the roof would go over too well with everyone!  I think I'm going to try a couple things - I'll try the same roof, just much less contrast, and see what that looks like (and post it for your collective opinions), and if that isn't well-received, I'll just duplicate the texture from the skylight side.  For myself not caring, I might still export this one and keep it for myself.  As for today, I might get a chance to take a crack at the dome lighting, depends on how tired I get.

sblanc1087 - Thanks for the pics, while not great quality, they give me the gist of what's going on and that's all I need.  There's enough daytime pics out there to tell me everything about the building itself.  I have to say I almost don't want to do ACC yet and just skip to this building, but I made a commitment to that so that I will do.  I will probably run these two somewhat concurrently however.  It'll take longer for release, but on the other hand, it seems more impressive to upload multiples (i.e. SimGoober).  Besides I should throw timing out the window, I know City Hall was going to take a while, but not 6 weeks!

I have finished the top of the tower, as well as started on the night lighting.  I was going to do more of the building then I found out the size of the building.  I figured to do the whole complex the lot size would have to be 18 x 36, a bit to big.  So all that I'm going to do is what is done.  The lot is still a big 8 x 14.

jsieczka - That terminal is really starting to look good, especially considering that looks like it's only a low-quality render?  I would say the tower maybe could use a little more work lighting-wise (see the pic on the first post), but other than that you're looking really far along!

    Coming together nicely.

On a side note: last night I had the TV on in the background, and the movie Bruce Almighty was on.  I wasn't really paying attention, but one scene jumped out at me.  I had no idea where the movie was supposed to be taking place, but then I saw your building!  It looked exactly like yours, and I knew exactly what it was, and what city they were in.  Kinda neat....

SG, I know exactly what you mean.  When I went to Portland, I saw several buildings that jtportland and sparkythepenguin had done.  It's strange when you recognize buildings based on BAT creations.

Both of these projects are looking great!  Keep up the good work.

SG - That's funny because I was watching that movie on DVD last night, it had just come in the mail after I ordered it from Amazon.com for $10 (I found paying $20 at the store for a Jim Carrey movie a bit too steep).  The scene you saw was probably the one where Bruce and God are walking on water on the Inner Harbor.  Seeing that scene also justified to me having the upper octagon part of the tower being a bit darker than the rest - my pictures were inconclusive, but in the movie scene it was obvious!  In a few of the scenes you also get decent (but quick) looks at the Liberty Building and HSBC Center.  The news station is also a real one, although severely butchered for obvious reasons.

jsieczka - You know I thought something looked funny about the lighting, but it didn't occur to me that it is too bright.  I think dulling it down a bit will be just the thing to make it look right!

Also, the time is coming to start deciding what I need in terms of lots for this building.  Technically, it's a government building, so CO doesn't really seem to fit, but it's probably the best choice.  There's also no chance of having a growable, as the lot is going to end up a 7x4 or 5 I believe.  I personally believe it's too unique of a building to place as a growable anyways.  Anybody else have ideas for lot usage?  And as for capacity - how many rounds of layoffs shall we have? 34.gif

jsieczka - There's no official group, but I suppose I'll have to start one. I'm hoping geoff_diamond will chime in, as he's probably the best Chicagoan BATter here. I'm also one, and I'm not sure if TheeLord is from Chicago or not.

As for the actual topic of the thread - this is my first time in here. I love the City Hall, mainly because it's so similar to the Merchandise Mart here in Chicago. The architectural style is very familiar to me. The lower roofs need some junk, or at least a texture.

The station is awesome. The tower needs some sort of spire on top, though. And why does the plaza look so . . bent out of shape? Is that a texturing error?

You may want to consider making this a true landmark, maybe in the Reward menu.  It is after all a one of a kind building, and should have some positive affects on your city.  Nothing crazy, but a minor boost to commercial business might be appropriate.  Other general landmark effects as well.

jsieczka, the building looks great, but ground around the building looks strange as many people have mentioned.  It almost appears to be a concrete embankment to get the entrance of the building to a height of the walkway over the track.  I think if we were to see it rotated, you'd notice a wall on the track side.  Am I correct?  How is the building in real life?  It just looks a little strange becasue of the angle.

sargeantcm, You should make it a landmark.  I guess it could still be a commercial office building, but the statues and such make it appear to be a government building.  You could make it a city hall, or just create a new civic reward (is this possible?) like the Civil Service building, or county administration or municipal building.  You'd still be keeping the escence of the building, just not replacing the city hall.
Lighting looks good, but I agree that yellow looks out of place, but looking good.

EDIT:  In the spirit of this thread, didn't the 40th anniversary of the creation of the Buffalo Wing just pass?  I want to say it was Wednesday.

    39.gif35.gif39.gif35.gif39.gifHappy Birthday!  39.gif35.gif39.gif35.gif39.gif

Well since I didn't know, I looked it up, and, June 25th is in fact the Buffalo Wing's birthday.  I just looked it up, since I didn't actually know that.  It was also a Friday night, as well.  Darn if I had known that maybe I would've done up an Anchor Bar BAT for today.  Oh well.

Speaking of anniversaries, however, July 1 will be the 72nd anniversary of City Hall's dedication.  Maybe I'll have it ready for then, but I'm not counting on anything.

And June 22nd was the 75th anniversary of the opening of Central Terminal.  Too bad I didn't know that then!

As for the lighting, yeah it does look a little yellowish.  The only problem with that is I got a perfect match with all my pictures in Photoshop, and it looks yellow since the light literally seems to glare on the surface.  Look up any night picture and I'm sure you'll notice that.  I might cheat it a little greener, however, but not very much.

As you can see the level the entrences are on are raised there is a ramp that has been off camera on all of the screen shoots.  Where the large black holes are is ground level.  What the two large holes are I do not know.  In all the pics they are just black holes.  There are no rail lines, nor has there ever been.

PS sorry about my pic being removed, guess I should start looking at that kind of stuff.

    Edit: newer pic ahead

Wow! What a wonderful modelling job on the city hall! My only piece of (constructive) criticism is to touch up the roof textures. Each section of roof should be textured individually, with its own photoshoped texture. Right now, I think the 'clean' areas are just too clean, and thus they stand out in stark contrast to the damaged area. What I would do is add a ring of dirt around the trim of the roof, and maybe some random dark spots throughout the roof. If it's metal, you could add a bit of rust too. Something like this:
/idealbb/files/roof (This was for an L shaped piece of roof)

    Keep up the great work!
