Cannot connect to neighbors with RHW Freeways

I am new to the Real Highways mod so I may be missing something, but I am not able to build functional connections to neighbor cities with this mod at all if I drag a starter piece out to the edge of the map. If I want to build a freeway connection to a neighbor I must use the Maxis freeways instead. I tried the RHW neighbor connection puzzle piece and it didn't show up on the other side.

For some reason dragging the RHW out to the edges as normal and using the neighbor connection puzzle pieces on top didn't seem to work. Like an expert said it would.

So am I missing something or what?

The overrides of the RHW don't go past the edge of a city tile. You should also create a starter override in the neighbouring city. The Neighbour Connection pieces only make the connection really functional (so cars can pass it and not only trucks), to overcome a bug in the game with multi-tile networks based upon a single tile network. Same goes for the NWM.

Best,

Maarten

These pictures show what happens 100% of the time if I follow the RHW readme file on neighbor connections (doing the same on both sides).

Can't you wait for a few in-game months. It may take a while for the game to re-locate commuting routes.

Here's me waiting 10yrs to not see any development with RHW as the closest connection.

Another question that hasn't arisen yet:

Do RHW networks function in your game at all (that is, able to carry traffic as shown with the Traffic Query tool--not just cars and other automata driving down it)? If not, you may have an incompatible traffic simulator plugin installed, such as the PEG-SPAM Traffic Mod's traffic simulator file, or hailman's Variable Route Buses plugin.

Additionally, make sure your RHW connects up properly on the neighboring city tile (e.g. there's actually something for the sims to commute to with it on the other side), and the neighbor connection in that neighboring city also has the appropriate Neighbor Connection pieces placed over top of it.

To check to ensure you've placed the Neighbor Connection pieces properly, install the Maxis Extra Cheats.dll file if you haven't already (it can be found here--just run the enclosed installer to install it), go in-game, type Ctrl-X to bring up the "cheat box" and type in "DrawPaths". There should be a green line and/or green arrows draped down the edge of your city tile where the neighbor connection is located.

I've got the same problem as RXL.. So I used the plugin Tarkus mentioned and I same a lot of green lines with arrows which went to the end of the citymap.. But still only trucks use the connection and the neighbor city doesn't develop at all.

What am I doing wrong with the RHW?

As Tarkus asked the above poster, did you set up the neighbor connections using the Neighbor Connection pieces on both sides of the connections? See this post for instructions (scroll down to number 9). Or perhaps traffic may have no reason to use the connection...

You should also see a green line that looks like it goes underground, as Tarkus described. If the paths just go to the end of the city map and that's it, it won't work. That's been my experience.

I think it isn't going underground.. But still how is it possible with a connectorpiece and rhw starterpiece at both sites and at both lanes.

How should it look like when the green line is going underground?

Well, first, you would need to delete the starter pieces. As long as the highway is longer than 5 or 6 tiles, the roadway will stay stable. However, it's actually probably better to place the starter pieces away from the edge and drag the highway to the edge and accept the neighbor connection request. Then you'll need to use the RHW Connection pieces found in the menu and place them on top of the highway.

    rhwconnect1.jpg

Select the icon with the arrow and use Tab to cycle to the correct piece. For separate RHW lanes, you'll place the connection piece on each lane. Be sure to rotate the pieces to match the lane markings.

How should it look like when the green line is going underground?

After placing the pieces, you'll see the small green path arrows appear "underground"...

    And at a distance...

Some suggestions to fix the problem?

I used a neighbor connector piece, but somehow it didn't worked. Yesterday did I download the new version of RHW (5.0) and suddenly it worked the way it should be.. So problem solved!

Except that I have the European textures and they aren't compatible(yet) with the neighbor connector pieces in RHW 5.0
