why's that? I'm even more amazed than I was before crossreading the article and staring at the pics...

anyways, the Game Informer special has been released a couple hours ago for subscribers, one guy was particularlily cool and posted all pages to this imgur gallery

to all folks more curious about the facts delivered, than the nice pictures, here's the core facts given:

map:

- "including interior and exterior, Los Santos is bigger than RDR, GTA:SA and GTAIV combined" (Aaron Garbut, Art Director)

- IGN says the map is 3.5 times bigger than RDR's map, 5 times including the ocean

- different biomes will be ""vast city, rivers, coastline, countryside, hills, mountains, canyons, deserts, wetlands, forests and all the little towns, farms, buildings and settlements" (Aaron Garbut). also, the ocean floor will be explorable, with all that belongs there

- tries to capture the feeling of the contemporary LA, with all the different aspects that give character to the city, including suburban sprawl

- created with literally every information legally available on LA, from pictures over videos, maps, census reports and even car sales and ownerships; also with help of residents, historicans, cops, ...

- Mt Chiliad is back aswell as a military base (representing Edwards AFB)

- several smaller towns in the backdrop

- "Alamo Sea" representing the Salton Sea area

- real life inspiration/sights also includes actual persons, eg the Jesus-guy in Sta Monica

characters:

- 3 main characters to be playable. think of GTAIV and it's episodic DLC, all 3 characters revolved more or less around the same story. Same happens here, only that you can switch back and forth between them however you like.

- character switching works via a radial menu similar to RDR's weapon menu

- character switching seems is available during missions aswell, to change the perspective, but not a necessity; it's up to you to decide how you wanna play the mission

- character switching outside missions always possible, showiing a google-earth-zooming-like animation

- not always every character available, but those available must survive the mission

- Michael: the Ned-Luke lookalike guy from the trailer. Early 40s, married, 2 kids (teenage girl Tracy, tweenage boy Jimmy). Former bank robber, now under witness protection living in Rockford Hills (aka Bev Hills), used to be pretty rich after a great deal with the FIB but runs out of money

- Franklin: the black one from the trailer and various screenshots, mid 20s repo man working for an armenian luxury car dealer taking advantage in selling expensive cars to ppl that can't afford them, living in South Los Santos. Gets in touch with Michael on a repo run

- Trevor: white, balding guy from screenshots. Same age as Michael and his bank heist partner. former military pilot, now living the "loose cannon" criminal live driven by drug addiction and no rules. operates out of a trailer in Blaine County

- each character comes with different skills and personalities (like Trevor being an ex-pilot) and has it's own bank account

- with switching between the 3 above, you also switch between pro- and antagonist

- character switching due to success of IV + EFLC and to increase story immersion

- no love lifes (aka dating girlfriends), but plenty of other social contacts. Also, all characters have a life you - the player - won't have control over... whatever that means...

- ability to hang out with the other playable characters

- some IV characters return, but no "PS2 era characters" (no CJ, no Tommy, no Claude, no Maccer, no Rosenberg, no nothing) and also no Niko Bellic

gameplay:

- revolves around six big heists

- no buyable property but plenty of other stuff to do, like playing all holes at the full-scale golf course

- ammunation is back

- the game doesn't throw guns at you like privious titles

- cover system has been improved and plays a much more important role than in IV

- complex missions happen earlier in gameplay, including heists

- next to the radio stations, for the first time in GTA history, there is a scored soundtrack during missions

- all means of transportation become available very fast, even aircaft, but you won't get them for nothing; stealing a plane gotta get you past security first

- more missions include flying

- random events/missions similar to RDR

- no RPG elements like in San Andreas, only different clothes

- exercising possible, but only as an activity and not a "skill trainer"

- peds take much more notice of you and react accordingly

- fully "functional" ecosystem in terms of flora and fauna, we know about dogs already, another animal confirmes is coyotes

- animals serve a purpose, eg guard dogs do what their name claims: guarding

- more cars than in any other GTA, including different bikes, motorcycles, cars and trucks, helicopters, airplanes, boats, jetskis, offroad vehicles

- more random events to make the world alive, inlcuding police chases and, for example, the ability to jack security transports to make some cash

- seemingly no co-op story missions

EDIT: updates some info

so, the french page jeuxactu.com has their own preview up, also dutch insidegamer has a set of new screenshots available.

most interesting is the french preview, as it gives some more insight into the map size, they say that Los Santos alone is 4-5 times bigger than Liberty City in IV was (which put's us at about the size of the map from Red Dead Redemption)

And even better, the map is completely available right away, no unlocking new areas

let's see what IGN offers us this week, they give us a new bit of info every day.

and don't forget that the 2nd trailer launches on wednesday

EDIT: updated some info in the above list

EDIT: 2nd part of IGNs GTA week is more a downer than an upper, only little new info... updated the list

yeah the big news november was more like all quiet on the west front... lotta contradicting infos in even more magazines, ezines, interviews, bla.

anyways, R* wishes us a merry gifts under a decorated pine day with 5 new screenshots, revealing a little more of the fun.

most impressive to me:

submarines!

sharks!

dogs as codrivers!

flyable 747!

prank calls in the middle of the night!

    lol, I'm back.

I had mixed feeling after I had read GI, but then a few days later I had begun to get really hyped again.

I'm now like cannot wait for this to come out, and we've got 4-5 months now.

About the new screens, I was pretty surprised. Usually they don't update on Sundays, and this 5 screen montage really caught me by surprise.

    *submarines!!! :O

    *a huge jet

    *sharks!! :O

*and just look at those graphics! It's much better than IV's grainy graphics.

I'm sure that having my head shoved into a toilet would be a more comfortable experience than playing GTAIV with the default shaders.

As soon as I get my hands on that huge jet, I'll literally be flying for hours. I'll probably then crashland on the Los Puerta or Del Perro Freeway, lol.

Have any of you guys seen the leaked physics-engine video for this game? I saw it for the first time a couple months back and was completely flabber-gasted by it! Hope it does the same to you fine chaps:

The cover art and more artwork is destined to come before the 1st of February. :O

I really hope it's good. I also wish we'd get more screens. Screens that show off the city. I'm growing sick of screens that are either too zoomed in on stuff so that everything else is hidden, or screens that are basically the same shots at different angles.

It seems like R* is trolling us, they've got something to hide.

    -snip-

    this video is FAKE. period.

in fact, this video is a pretty old summer 2012 tech demo of what the CRY ENGINE 3 is capable of using soft body physics.

GTAV, just like all R* titles since 2006 (when they abandoned RenderWare), uses "Rockstar Advanced Game Engine", aka RAGE.

Actually, I think it might be a Rigs of Rods demo reel. Parts of that chequerboard map were very similar to another they did. They did do a Crysis implementation of it though.

Rigs of Rods uses an open source engine called OGRE.

It's the same developper tho, BeamNG.

BeamNG left OGRE behind and works with Cry Engine 3.4 now (plus this video is featured on crydev.net) so I wouldn't call it an implementation but rather the next step...

either way, it's not GTAV and that's what the message is all about

well then, it's official, NO SPRING 2013 release

September 17th is the date to mark:

    Dear all,

Today, we have an official release date to share with you: Grand Theft Auto V will arrive in stores on September 17, 2013.

We know this is about four months later than originally planned and we know that this short delay will come as a disappointment to many of you, but, trust us, it will be worth the extra time. GTAV is a massively ambitious and complex game and it simply needs a little more polish to be of the standard we and, more importantly, you require.

To all Grand Theft Auto fans, please accept our apologies for the delay, and our promise that the entire team here is working very hard to make the game all it can be. We are doing all we can to help ensure it will meet if not exceed your expectations come September – we thank you for your support and patience.

    Yours,

    The GTA Team

EDIT: great day, instead of the earlier promissed "cover reveal later that months" - with today being the last chance - we get a release date, a 4 months delay AND no cover art

    I'm done with R*'s BS.

This is arguably the worst marketing for a game I've ever experienced. It's delayed...

    This is pure BS.

I just can't express how mad I am, I just wanna' slap Dan Houser in the face.

Well then, I won't buy GTA V and probably won't play it at all, not even with friends. The previous press releases piqued my interest. I used to like playing GTA with friends.

Ocram's Razor: Though "more things shouldn't be used than are necessary," they're just too fun to pass up! Expect many verbose arguments from me. I will try to write abstracts before or short summaries after from now on.

    Words to live by:
"Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit... But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually..." 1 Corinthians 4-11

Those knuckledraggers, releasing the game right before summer would've been the greatest thing for sales.

I can picture their staff working very slowly and continuously taking one-hour breaks.

So I have to wait until early 2014 to play the latest game that's a shining example of how to not to a PC Port? Yeah, they can go jump.

Can anybody else agree that this is the worst marketing for a game?

Rockstar is getting pathetic. They're too lazy to release a single screen. This delay has also killed the fun. Just imagine, right now we'd have tons of screens, maybe a website open, and a ton of hype if the game was still set to come out in May.

But no, a delay and an info drought.

If they delay again I'll just forget about it and move onto something else to be obsessed with.

this time's marketing is really annoying... hyping via lack of info. works, but annoying.
at least I can shorten the waiting by a few weeks with saints row 4 coming in august... meh...
