Yay, we made it! 39.gif Moving on to page two tomorrow - with a happy blinking hot topic icon to boot. 10.gif It's a big update with lots of pics, just needs a little more humor. Thanks for your comments Justanna, toonzinator, and Terse Pig. Justanna, the statues are from right here in Simtropolis - I think I had a link a few posts back. Or just search for moais - another spell check challenge! 42.gif

I'm very sorry for not updating as planned last night - I was felled by a nasty headache. 7.gif The chapter is written, the pics have been taken and even resized already, so all I need to do is put the two together. Although I'm supposed to be going out for margaritas tonight...oops, I mean milkshakes. 2.gif I'll see what I can do.

Chapter 8: The Ragged Edge Is Growing on You

While we were following the travails of Clem in Mandevilla, the other mayors of The Ragged Edge were just as busy. Warning: studying the ferry routes of this region too closely can induce dizziness.

In Acerton, Lily Field decided to continue the success of Cattail Landing by building an extension called North Cattail Landing.

    AcertonCattailoverview.jpg border=0

As always in The Ragged Edge, it was important to keep an eye on your children at play, even during soccer practice.

    AcertonNorthCattailLanding.jpg border=0

The new development did reasonably well, but Lily was puzzled at the transit numbers. Apparently a lot of people were coming from the north and boarding the monorail at North Cattail Landing, which was the farthest north the monorail reached in the entire region.

Like Red, Lily also planned a new commercial area around her city hall. She added a museum to Farley Industries, complete with a statue of her father Farley Field out front.

He threatened to come down fromNew3.gifl Mommy City3.gifLACE> to Acerton to see it, but Lily fended him off by hinting that she needed to ask him for more money. Farley stayed home and grumbled instead, much to the relief of Lily

mayormommy, another great chapter in a great CJ. thanks so much for using my parks too. it is cool to see them being used. you really do such a great job of story telling i wonder if writing isn't a big part of your vocation. and of course your region is becoming more and more interesting as it develops. what makes it more interesting, besides the great writing, is the fact that you chose such a difficult map. it may inspire me when it comes time to choose my next region. keep it up, bud.1.gif

Thanks for making those parks, Papa San! 40.gif I was beginning to run out of ideas for parks and was afraid my cities were going to start looking too much alike. Of course, on some projects like this I think it would be nice if my cities were more level. I don't have much patience for leveling, especially in developed cities. 27.gif Fortunately I found a nice flat spot for the golf course I'm building for Chapter 9.

Good guess on vocation - I edit a small scientific magazine for a living. But Terry Pratchett (Discworld series) is my current inspiration. 18.gif

    Chapter 9: The Retirement Edge

Ivy Wall was going through her mail one day when she found a letter from her Aunt Cecilia (called Aunt Cee for short) in NewMommyCity.

    Dear Ivy,

I saw this photo in the New Mommy News about bears harassing commuters in Mandevilla. I

You're a very brave mayor building on this terrain, together with the challenging way in which you want your sims to move around (it's nice to see a region that isn't a criss-cross of highways). Top marks my friend, may your CJ's live forever!!!44.gif

Thanks for the comments, BarbulaM1 and Andrew George. 1.gif I like difficult maps because the placement of cities and transportation routes is readily apparent - usually decided for you, in fact. I think I would flounder with a large flat map - I wouldn't know where to start! 42.gif

Nitrous, the map is A Beautiful Country, which I downloaded from the MEX and modified. If you look waaaaaay back in the first post it gives the details. 2.gif

Thanks very much for the compliment, MrCinatit. It means a lot coming from such a good journal author/creator. 43.gif

Yes, papa_san, I think those parks you created look really nice with the church! 10.gif

If I'm not mistaken, I think this is the only BAT church that works the same as the in-game house of worship - all of the the others are museums or landmarks. I am not sure what the difference is 42.gif, but I wanted to keep that function in case it is important.

I have always assumed that monorails do not need to be turned around - that they can run backwards and forwards like commuter or subway trains. The stations at the ends of the lines seem to work fine. 1.gif

I am happy to report that the hours of work I have invested in downloading and reorganizing props files seem to have finally paid off. So now my poor JENX house yards aren't so bare and papa-san's missing flowers are blooming again. 9.gif But then Grampa Al went and changed the plug-in tutorial recommendations again today, eek! Still more sorting out to do....it may be a few days before an update. 7.gif

Ah, yes, renowned paleontologist Dr. Slayerofsims has unearthed the ancient fossilized journal of The Ragged Edge, which has been peacefully sleeping deep on page four under sedimentary layers of dozens of other journals. 23.gif Seeing the light of day for the first time in over a week, readers marveled at how this old dinosaur still looked alive - for it is! 6.gif New adventures await Simtropolis mayormommyii later this weekend.
