Can I request landmark versions of the buildings in future releases?  I've been making them myself, but...I can't stand jobs in custom buildings, and I'm sure some people feel the same, and...it just takes time to turn them into landmarks. ;)

I won't die if you don't want to do it, but it'd be nice.

Beautiful work, BUT I'd use a more intricate texture on such a beautiful structure.

Corlian... i couldn't agree with you more!!!  Jobs and residential units throw off demand so horribly.

I'll talk to Jes and see if he's willing to throw a third version in the zips.

Engrish: I like the texture :)  What do you think is wrong with it?  It's just clad in white siding?

JT you have certainly pulled the stops out on your headquarters, the roof junk works fine and the helipad with steps and roof access looks excellent, the nicest touch of course is your logo on the tower side, would be nice to have one on each side, looks very professional, could be an investment bank, I expect to see Armani suits and red braces in the lobby, that was Geoff, wasn

    I spit on Armani!!!  I'm a Tassi guy :)

At any rate... I'm not sure about repeating the logo on each facade... I think it adds a certain amount of elegance to have it on just the once side, not to mention, it strengthens the demarkation of that particular side as the front of the building :)

Okay, so, I decided to take a break from Michigan Tower to let things sort of sink in and see how I felt about it after some time off.  In the mean time, I went back to one of my old models to go ahead and finish it up.  So, this one is called Wells Tower, and R$$$.  Anyway, I'm very pleased with how it turned out, the only thing I'm not 100% sure about is the layout of the lawn elements.  Needless to say, ignore the textures and lack of roof props for now (as Jes hasn't gotten his hands on this one yet).  Thoughts?

Geoff, that's gorgeous!  It's sort of like how the Hogan should have looked.  Are you considering doing the lawn layout the way you have it?  because I love it like that.

And how did you get your preview to look like an architectural artist's conception?  Or is that a PDA trade secret?  3.gif

Hehe, thanks for the comment!  But, I'm confused what you mean?  How do you think it looks different than anyone else's preview?  If you can point out what you mean I'd be more than happy to tell you what I did!  PDA has no secrets :)

As far as the lawn goes... yeah, it was certainly my intention to do it like that, assuming everyone liked it.

i think im finished with roof junk on the PDA HQ, let me know if you guys think it's too much lol. ALSO check out the windows! with ample help from cerulean, i was able to randomize the window colors! YAY

    pdahq02.jpg

i also included a full pic of the front, to show how the whole buildin is goign to look 2.gif

and i can include a landmark version of the PDA HQ, no problem.

iamrobk, i can also include an R$$ versoin when i get my hands on it

glad u like the helipad hog, i spent HOURS on it, if u can believe that lol

Woah that is aaaaaaaaaaaawesome! My only little complaint is that there is a lot of action at the top, but not much at the bottom.....

nice windows 2.gif they look awesome!!!I think this adds soooo much! but then i co-wrote the routine, so I would think that 12.gif

The only other thing I think the roof needs is the corner pieces, there should at least be a railing out there or a small parapet wall ( wall that sticks up above the roof plane with a cap on it ) now that I look again though, that sunken area kinda achieves that so its your call..

and one last thing on the wall texture...you can see the slight darkening parts repeat...look where the corner pieces meet the middle, it repeats and mirrors a little too perfectly...That is being a little picky, so whatever, I am only tryin to help. I think you can fix this by calculating the # of times the texture repeats, and increasing the size of the image for the texture so that it covers the whole building, and then add the dirt spots...just a suggestion! This looks very nice!

I love the entry canopy too! and the logo sign is a nice touch! and the roof just is super...Thats the first building I have seen with the sunken stairwell! very cool!

thanks for the suggestions cerulean! i will need to fix that texture i know, i do see it repeating...

and i do see that i went alittle overboard with roof junk, so here's an updated pic of the roof, less cluttered 1.gif

Ahh, the roof has returned to order :)

Okay, so, I love the subtle variation in the main siding texture, but, does anyone else thing it looks just a tad too dirty?  It looks like we have a crap-ass cleaning crew!

yeah i agree with geoff, it may look a little too dirty. however, that's nit-picking, because this building is one of the best i've ever seen. 16.gif

Geoff, mine just always have the stark black background and nothing on the ground.  And yours is casting a shadow, so did you BAT the lawn part too?  This just looks a lot more like an artist's conception that someone would show at an important meeting, rather than one of my crummy render previews.  1.gif

JT:  My mouse-arm was starting to get tired doing most of the res hi-rises myself.  And I'm sure people will be very happy to have some non-Cobbs in their skylines.  9.gif

Darren - yeah... I did the lawn stuff in bat (which I have found to be a VERY useful tactic.  What you do is create a box right at the very beginning that's the size of the lot you want in SC (16 gmax units for every SC tile).  Then, I just build the structure right on top of the new block.  It's great for so many reasons; a) you get a great idea of how the building will fill up a city block without having to do any test exports, b) you don't have to worry about the building constantly getting off-center as you add things to one side or another, because, as long as that first box doesn't move (which it shouldn't), you're home free, c) lastly, it gives you greater freedom to lay out the surrounding plaza (or whatever's going to be at the base) than the LE.  It might be more work, but, that has never seemed to bother you in the past :)

Also, the building will automatically cast a nice shadow on to the lot for you when you preview it.  Finally, as far as the stark black background, I just took the preview render into photoshop and magic-wanded the black out and replaced it with white.  It makes the details pop out alot more I think.  I hope this was all helpful!

BTW - I have finished re-massing Michigan Tower and will be posting some shots very shortly.

Okay, as promised, here's some preview shots of Michigan Tower.  Like I said, I reworked the massing (by basically rebuilding the whole thing - save the base).  There's just a few more architectural featurs to add (like a small curtainwall that falls off the backside of the building into that small cutout left on the back of the base).  Other than that, she's pretty much done!  Comments?
