Okay, we are currently working on two projects.  First up, jt is adding some more detail and modifying the texture and nightlighting for my previously-posted Randolph Tower.  Here's an early screenshot of the changes:

Secondly, here's a shot of the next project that we'll be bringing you. The Washington Tower:

Awesome.  Looks like an extremely beneficial collaboration.  Are you guys going to start giving me a run for my money in growable residentials?  9.gif

What's the story on that Washington tower?  Did you guys design that, or is that an existing building?

Love the logo, esp. the font. Very nice. A bit of competition to the BSC?2.gif Now, I'm going to have to speak to the team about a flashy logo (without letting on that I plagurised the idea18.gif)

hehe... i'm not sure about giving the BSC team a run for their money.  It's a totally different idea.  We'll only be doing our own projects.

As far as growables go... that's a question that jt will be better suited to answer.  If he knows how to do it (or is willing to learn) then that's something we'll definately be doing I'm sure.

Lastly, as for Washington Tower, I'm proud to say... that's a design fresh out of my noggin :)

Geoff, you have the opposite problem that I do.  I make growables in one or two steps, whereas every time I try to make a ploppable, it's a disaster at first.  I have to fix about 17 things, reboot the computer, restart SC4 about 5 times, and then it's okay (usually).

For growable, I just pull up a lot from the same growth stage already in the game, fix the lot the way I want it, replace it with my building, and save under a new name.  That's it!  (Oh yeah and put my title in the exemplar name, but you know how to do that already).  The lot editor and/or the game itself assigns the number of residents based on the size of the structure, too -- I never have to touch that.  And they always work on the first try!

Oh, and you are saving yourself a world of headache and opening an avenue to boundless artistic expression by making your own design!  2.gif

Really!?!?  It's that easy?  Man, maybe if someone had said something sooner I would have started doing that early on and avoided some 9.5's on the BEX :)

Oh well, I don't have to concern myself with that anymore.

As far as working with original designs rather than existing buildings, yeah, I've definately noticed a difference.  While people still manage to complain to me about silly things, it's nowhere near the extent that it was when I was recreating real-life structures.  I think I'll stick with original works for a while :)

don't worry! i know how to make growables and plopables, cobb is right, making growables is a lot more easier than making plopables! but i've had lots of practace with the buildings i've released.

geoff has MANY great ideas for buildings! and i think we should stick with original works for a while too hehe 2.gif

There's alot of pairings going around at the moment, aren't there? Not that that's a bad thing, actually I feel it's quite the contrary.

Good luck fellas, can't wait to see completed productions on the lex. BTW, nice logo. 1.gif

Okay, I think I've got the basic shape of the base done (along with the grand entrance) for Washington Tower.

Thoughts?  (remember, if you have suggestions... speak quickly or forever hold your piece... I plan to continue working on this today).

Looks awesome! I like how you seem to have spend much time and thought on the entrance and base. Even though it's unrendered, could you show us how it'd look test-rendered?

Yeah that looks really cool, Geoff.  What's the scale?  I'm assuming the little square is like an awning over the entrance, and the rounded part is basically the size of 1 story?

    lol @ dusk.

Okay, so, I think the last shot was zoomed out a bit too far for everyone to see what's going on with the base.  So, here's a closer shot.  The square in the middle is actually a fountain basin and the round part is stairs :)

She's pretty tall :)  By my count she's 1312 feet to the rooftop and 1492 to the top of the antenna.

Okay, so, I have completed all the window-spining (save the base).  Finishing off other facade details will be next, followed by the completion of the base and the roof.  Then it goes off to JT for everything else :)

I don't really liek the reflection. Maybe make it a bit more blue so it's more subtle?

Yes, I have to agree.  if you are going to do reflections, you should either use clouds ( and a vaguely at that )  or a gradient.  In my latest buildings, I have avoided this type of reflection for this purpose.

    Still, excellent, though!44.gif

Woops!!! I completely forgot to mention! That texture is merely a place holder (just to give a general idea and make the window-spines stand out a bit).

Texturing is completely jt's gig now... I want nothing to do with it :)

So, yes, ignore the texture :)

I think you should add some more detail on the roof. Because it's hiiden you should bunch it next to the big triangular walls. Awsome40.gif
