Something else on the way to Ivarstead, there is some guy next to a river singing, but then a sabre-cat appears and bites him to death? When I went back to my last save, only 1 minute ago, and walked that way again, there was no guy, but a sabre-cat appeared and attacked me instead.

Hehe, looks like you've just experienced the goodness that is the Creation Engine's AI. A lot of stuff is done randomly (including quite a few dragon spawns too, which is very annoying).

I saw a video on Youtube of some guy spawning dragons using console commands and he just happened to be standing outside of a village... and all the dragons decided to attack the village. Awfully nice of them isn't it.

Haven't played Skyrim for a while, got some RL issues to deal with at the moment and the fact that my 360 controller broke so I'm using my PC's wired controller with it at the moment.

I have a little problem, and I hope somebody can give me some advice.

I was doing the ill met by moonlight quest, in which you have to take this cursed ring from a murderer who is a werewolf, called Sinding, who is imprisoned in Falkreath jail. You can't get the cursed ring off until you finish the quest. The ring changes you to a werewolf at random times. Sinding tells you to hunt a white deer. When you did that, the deadric lord Hircine speaks to you and tells you to start the hunt. You actually have to 'start the hunt' in some cave, where other hunters are dying, but in the quest journal the description on the top (not the current objective) said I had to kill Sinding to gain the blessings of Hircine. I went straight back to Falkreath Jail and shot Sinding in his cell. I did some other stuff and then went to the cave where the hunt would start. Then I got the objective to kill Sinding. I went to the jail again, and Sinding was just floating around in his cell (which is filled with water), dead. But the quest objective keeps telling me to kill Sinding, and I can't do it because I already killed him. Some guards even say he escaped, while he is lying dead in his cell... The problem is the cursed ring which you can't remove. I'm now stuck being transformed into a werewolf at random times, and I can't equip normal rings either.

How do I solve this?

Is there a way to change the status of this quest in the save files or something?

If you're on PC, you might have to open up the console and mark the quest as "completed". There are instructions on the Internet to do that. On consoles, you're screwed :P

I already tried to find a command for it.

There is a command that completes all current quest stages, but not this specific one. (and when you have 20 quests and another 20 misc. tasks, that will crash the game) I haven't found a command that completes a single quest stage yet.

There also seems to be a command called 'resurrect' which would resurrect something you are pointing on. Tried it a few times, but I didn't get it to work.

I started looking in the savefiles with notepad, and searched for this quest and this character, but it got too complicated for me to actually change anything.

There is also the option of spawning a new NPC in, but I need his ID for that. I haven't found it yet.

But I read the game will not recognize him as alive after that.

Still worth trying, if I can find the ID.

Oh, and I started reading a walkthrough of the quest, and it appears after I spoke with the spirit of hircine, Sinding should have escaped from the prison cell and went to the cave with the hunters, to attack them.

However, that should mean Sinding couldn't have been in his cell anymore in Falkeath, but that's where I shot him?

But he was still alive in his cell at the time, although I remember a guard saying the prisoner escaped.

Then, when I went to the cave, the hunters were there, but they were almost dead and injured, as if Sinding indeed attacked them. But he was lying in his cell in Falkreath. So I guess it was not just me breaking the quest, it was actually a bug?

There is a specific command. (did a quick look-up, I actually had to use it):

GetStage <id> - Used to get the current quest stage for given quest ID (use command ShowQuestTargets for IDs).

SetStage <id> - Used to set the quest stage (Useful for bugged quests), for given quest ID (use command ShowQuestTargets for IDs). Common usage is to add 10 to the stage number given to advance past a bugged portion of a quest.

http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Ill_Met_By_Moonlight - this has the quest ID and stage you'll need in order to do the console command.

so I killed a dragon attacking Winterhold a couple game-days before and was doing the Midden thing, as I had to leave for some beer... anyhow, I just logged back into the game and came over a dragon skeleton right in the middle of the mage's college... the skeleton at Winterhold? gone...

how the heck does a skeleton move over these, say 200 yards?

EDIT: oh and I just found a new dragon attacking winterhold... brb, gotta kill some flying geckos

except cheating?

do dungeons and caves. loot every dead enemy. Don't hesitate to sell enchanted items. Ask around towns for errands. and crafting. the latter can be combined with dungeons and caves as you can find ore there.

basically, just try to make money out of everything.

I came, via quest, to a dwemer-ruin yesterday which was (due to the enemies there) pretty much full of gems and soulgems. I guess I can add a few thousands to my account now.

And make sure when you sell things, you use something that (temporarily) improves your speech skill.

But when you have lots of stuff, shopkeepers will run out of money, so you have to travel.

They can't even pay for 3 dragon bones!

Behold the awesome power of Unrelenting Force. FUS RO DAH!

Since I saw a misheard lyrics video about the Skyrim song, I can only hear the 3 lines of text after FUS RO DAH :O as:

Fus Ro Dah!

He's the lord.

F*cking cool.

Oh my god.

All that I can say poor Lydia although it is funny. Yesterday I played Skyrim I actually lost Lydia and cant seem to find her anywhere. I don't know if its due to the quest I started going searching for this old guy somewhere beneath Riften.

If you play the game on a PC, you can press the ~ key (below esc) and write a2c94.moveto player

That will teleport Lydia to you, if she's still alive. If she's dead, you can resurrect her by typing prid a2c94 and then type resurrect.

If you're not on a PC, you should check Breezehome or Dragonsreach, and if she's not there either, wait a few (24) hours (not IRL of course), and if she's not back then either, she's probably dead.

Also, if you did the 'Forsworn conspiracy' and/or the 'nobody escapes Cidhna mine' quest, she could be stuck at the shrine of Talos in Markarth, forever. Even if you teleport her to you, or tell her to not follow you anymore, she will walk to that place.

I lost her in Labyrinthian. Didn't even spawn after using doors to other parts of the complex (u know, those that makes the game load and spawn the housecarl next to you) but she didn't come back un multiple attempts... well then I ticked her name as MIA and went on... after cleaning out the complex and fasttravelling back to the next point in this quest, she was back safe and sound at the respective spawnpoint.

little spoiled brat wont tell me where the frak the was all the time... prolly sitting on a tree watching me fight to the bones laughing her f-a-o... grrrr

I've just completed the main questline. One thing has been really pissing me off.

Warning, Spoilers

When Delphine wants you to kill Paarthurnax and refuse to talk to you ever again if you don't despite the debate against it.

derp he's a threat don't you know he KNEW alduen

Yeah so? The guy basically caused the rebellion in the first place and helped me learn stuff

but he's a threat so you have to kill him

He's basically guided me through the last bunch of main quests while you guys sat on your asses in a temple. Why would he betray us now?

hes thret

How about I let him live but if he tries any crap, I'll murder him?

How about that, Blades? Don't you think I deserve some kind of trust here, what with saving the world and everything? I just walked into the afterlife and killed a demigod dragon known as "The World Eater", don't you think I deserve some kind of authority over you? After I got you into this sweet-ass temple only accessible with my blood, saved Skyrim from dragons, saved Esbern from the Thalmor and...

No okay, you're right. Clearly you have no reason to talk about me until I kill the only dragon who can carry on polite conversation with humans. That seems fair.

Okay rant over...

As advice to everyone though (not related to the above) I suggest finishing the main story line before you're a really high level. I've been told before level 35. Otherwise the ending will seem a bit anti-climactic. :)

Kind of, I finished the main Quest at 28 or something, and ended the civil war at 20. But I didn't do anything else, I never even visited the whole town of Riften by that time. So I'm now starting questlines like the Thieves Guild and the Dark Brotherhood and the Daedric Quests.

And the whole thing about Paarthurnax pissed me off too, and I'm not going to kill him. If they weren't essential, I would kill them!

Talking about killing essential NPC's. I tried to murder that Maven Blackbriar, the dictator of Riften who is the cause of all crime and corruption, but it didn't work :(

Yeah, could do that.

But it's not really a good idea after all, it will probably break all quests...

Level 32, going on 33, but in the doldrums, so to speak.

It seems my rate of leveling up has slowed right down, I'm finding it difficult to pick up new skills that allow me to level up quickly because I already am high-leveled in the skills that I use (eg. Heavy Armor: mid-70s, Two-Handed: 83, Smithing: 100) on a regular basis.

I believe that after reaching 50 in a skill, leveling in that skill will go at much slower rates.

Okay I have run in to serious problems in Markarth. First time I visited the city I was barely level 10 and supposedly there happened a murder in front of the main gate that I somehow missed. My reason going to Markarth in the first place was to give this enchanted Dwemer shield to a mage named Calcelmo. After that I did some quests for him like killing a spider inside this mine and I explored the whole place pretty much and got a key to the dwemer museum. In the museum I found my way into a lab where two guards attacked me and I killed them. No one in the city seemed to notice that I had killed two guards and I just left the whole place. Before I left however I found out about this murder that happened at the gate and got a note from a guy.

Next time I got involved with Markarth was when I joined the thieves guild and was doing their quests. This time I was supposed to go to the dwemer museum and steal some of Calcelmos research and I also did some smaller thieving missions in the city. This was much later in the game and my character is now at level 30. Then I remembered that note I got on my first visit and I started a quest to reveal the Frosworn conspiracy. This quest involves you killing loads of people in Markarth and the guards of the city framing you for a murder and wanting to arrest you. The problem is that I didn't want to get arrested. So I escaped Markarth and killed about 20 city guards in the process. Afterward I found out that I should have gotten arrested in this quest. But now after killing 20 guards every time I go to the city the guards will attack me on sight so I have no idea how to get them to just arrest me?

Edit: and loading my latest save file means I will loose hours of progress and all the autosaves still leave me with this problem.
