I am one of those RPG folks and own and play all the ES series games. Arena, Oblivion and Morrowind were quite innovative games, but Skyrim is the first to include a storyline, centering around dragons - Something many fans of Bethesda Games have been waiting for in the ES series.

Am hoping we can tame and ride some of these dragons, but so far, the dragz look to be enemies of the hero. Will see. Can't wait! ;-)

You can watch the preview game trailer here: http://www.elderscrolls.com

I logged over 100 hours into Oblivion and can't wait for Skyrim to be released. Judging from how Bethesda responded with Fallout 3 after Oblivion I'm thinking this game is going to deliver on an epic scale never seen before. Dual wielding, new skill trees, a perk system and more are going to make this game awesome. Come 11.11.11, Skyrim is probably going to own my life.

On Game Trailer they said you make friends with one, but its not till the end... I was hoping you could ride them to.

Never finish Oblivion, still playing the "Game of the Year" edition, hoping Skyrim is just as good, never played the other.... I am hoping Bethesda doesn't make the same mistake they did with Fall-out New Vegas, which was alright but not as good as the first (my first Fall-out, which ever one that was in the title)

Not really a fan of RPG's or any monster (unicorns included games, I know I read comics whatever)..... but a game like Oblivion is worth playing, I hope Skyrim lives up to it.

Looks way too sci-fi/fantasy for my liking, not into magic and spells, reminds me of Harry Potter.

Larks, I'm not even going to try anymore.

Looks like a sci-fi pic :meh:

Must have more realistic setting and the game would be perfect /rage

I hear there are more than about three different voice actors in this one! If they have a copy left in the shop on friday after work I'll get a copy for the weekend.

I might actually buy skyrim, never played a elder scrolls game before but this one looks very good. I'm a big fan of open world games but still leaning more toward the action oriented style than the rpg style. Seems that this game provides best of both.

I got Skyrim today.

I've come to one conclusion: it is by far the best TES game I have played.

After 10 minutes of fiddling with the character creation, I came to another conclusion. It is entirely possible to create a character that looks like a drag queen and/or one of the members of KISS.

Bethesda have outdone themselves this time.

Got skyrim yesterday. It's just amazing. My only complaint would be some of the textures for a lot of rock walls in the game, but it's hard to argue when seeing this in it.

This is no doubt one of the best games I've played.

I got the game and I tested it at a friends place. We only played for few hours and I feel that we just scratched the surface of it. I have few other games to complete before I really get to dig into it properly. I am really impressed by the game world it feels like straight out of a Tolkien book. :D

and tolkien writes nothing but nordish/scandinavian tales basically.

and thats what skyrim reminds me of, vikings, nords and all that. love it.

I'd love too see dual shield wielding when you can equip spells to, that would be awesome

Is there multi player in this?

Its single player. Same as the fallout games. Which in my opinion is better. No annoying idiots and trolls around making the game a pain to play.

I tried a mutiplayer game like this. Never even got to play it ever. People could level up by killing other people in the game so they would wait at the spawn point for people to respawn and kill you as soon as you did. Then you would respawn back to that point and they would repeat the process. Not to mention all the whiny little 7-12 year olds that swear or whine at you when you kill them if you happen to find a place where spawn killing isnt happening. There are too many idiots out there for me to try MMORPGs again.

The road to Riften is very lovely.

Just a note: I don't have my graphics set to maximum.

Now why the heck can't FPSs have graphics like that?

Because generic FPS's are made in under a year, giving developers no time so they release crap unfinished games, or games that use the same engine as the previous game(s). *coughBattlefield*cough*mw3*

First off BF3 used an entirly new engine (Frostbite 3) and had more then one year development and turned out to be a fail of a game.

Alright guys, we're not here to argue about FPSes, there's another topic for that.

From the diary of my character:

Today, I was bored and decided to clear out a few places of bandits. That certainly made me feel better.

Plenty of great anecdotes to have in Skyrim - everyone has their own story to tell. For instance, my roommate (who also has the game) got ambushed in the Mages College by a dragon, not once, not twice, but three times. He wasn't too happy about it.

Does anyone have any awesome stories to tell about their character?

I went out to find the same place as SA posted above, the small bridge on the road to Riften... Just that I play it on maxed out settings (except AA and AF which is 4 samples each)

here you go

toriften.jpg

interesting enough how there's barely a difference visible in the two screenshots. Doubt it's due to jpg compression.

Anyways, I few seconds later I got into a fight with a bandit Dark Elve which came out of nothing from around the red bushes at the left. I wonder why I can't see this guy even tho all draw distances are maxed. must have been be a hell of a hide and seek player in his younger years... too bad his dead body decorates the bridgehead now.

Not to mention those 5 or 6 dragons I already ... well... made a comfy campfire of. Interesting how some dragons have names and others are just called "dragon". Can't wait to face Alduin and add his soul to my collection.

Speaking of it, I am a little disappointed by how easy it is to defeat those creatures... well on the other hand I am the Dovahkiin so thats my godsgiven skill.

talking about characters, what character do you play?

Mine is a female nord warrior with good knowledge in (destruction) magics, 27ish years old specialized in one handed weapons, bows and heavy armor.

but as it is with such games, one end up skilling everything somehow. cant say I never used restoration or conjuration magics and also smithing and other crafting skills come handy here and there to bring some coin. tbh, I sort of miss something like in WoW where you're limited to 2 major professions only.

nevertheless I am amazed by the amount of sidekicks, be it jobwise or not. heck you can even get married. lol. love that. Less for the romance in it (Im done with this) but more for the benefit of it, depending on who you marry (eg a shopkeeper will share his/her coin). naa enough teasing. don't wanna spoil it.

Speaking of spoiling, there's already a coin bug found, tho different from the one in Oblivion where you can pickpocket Dorian like crazy, This time, it's a loot bug that does not clear the loot from the looted body's inventory.

I hope a duplication bug pops up later on like the one in Oblivion. I am permanently low on my favorite arrows and lockpicks.

Well, I have my shadows set to low (as my graphics card can't really handle it), but just about everything else is set to max.

Heard this little tidbit today: "My character took a bath today. Now he's Dovahclean." Terrible play on words there. 45.gif

Anyway - I realised I forgot to talk about My character is a male Nord, level 13 now (taking it slow, taking in the sights...). He lugs around an Orcish greatsword, and still wears armour that he stole from an Imperial commander at the beginning of the game. He has quite a high skill level in heavy armour, has a few points in Archery, a couple points in one-handed fighting and is a pretty good smith all-around, too.

He's a bit of an all-rounder, but it's always nice to beat the crap out of most bandits that dare try to kill me.

Okay seems most people have a Nords as their character and I make no exception in that :P. I haven't put a lot of time into the game yet but I mostly have been using two handed weapons and archery to take down my enemies. Honestly I don't know what game I should focus on I also got Batman Arkham City, Uncharted 3 and Assassins Creed Revelations. So I have months of gaming ahead and I do not have any spare money to buy anymore any time soon.

I am the SLOWEST. GAMER. EVER. I like to use a lot of time just... walking around, talking to people. I generally don't attac things/people unless they attacked me, tried attacking some random guard in one of the tiny villages and he beat the crap out of me. WTH. The guards in Helgen were easy enough.

Speaking of guards, I get nervous every time one of them says "HEY! I know you!" which happens EVERY time they walk past me.

Anyways, on my constant exploring (I can spend hours just inside ONE house) I've read a dozen of books, at least, and thus learned a lot more about the history of Tamriel and some of the former wars and constellations etc., I've also figured out some books give you skills. It could be random. I've only been to Whiterun of the big cities this far (Riverwood doesn't count), and until now I've found two "skill books" there - one in the cellar of the Companions HQ and one in the inner room of the Jarl wizard's quarter - it is on his desk. I've gotten "Illusion" and "Speech" from books this far.

I am only level 2. And I'm not even embarrassed about it. I've spent a day (IRL) just taking in Whiterun, and exploring some of the surrounding wilderness - I am kind of a coward when it comes to dungeons, so I didn't do the Catacombs (even though I have to for the priest's quest) or the Dragonsreach dungeon - I want to recruit someone, but I am awful at getting myself money (I feel bad for stealing) and Uthgerd... I don't like her attitude. Was thinking of hiring the Dark Elf in the inn at Whiterun, anyone have any experience with her?

I was considering just getting that Sven guy too, before going to the Bleak Fallows whatever it's called. I HATE the undead thingies, and the skeletons - the skeletons are very easy to beat, they just freak me out. I haven't seen any dragons yet since the first in Helgen, but I've understood they don't start spawning randomly until you've killed your first.

I've been reading a lot online, so I avoided what seems to be everyone's first mistake: Either killing a chicken (haven't they learnt from Zelda, duh) or a mammoth - I did see a mammoth, and I promised this merchant lady in Whiterun to get a mammoth something for her, but I didn't want to get hunted by a giant :P I am just kind of a coward and need to face up to that. (On the other hand, I want to get killed by a giant as they throw you soooo high up in the air - the view is marvellous, I've heard.)

Not seen the Aurora yet. It rains ALL THE TIME during the night here. Seriously.

Oh, and even though most of the names are either just crap or sound Latin/Tolkien-ish, I love it how some are old Norse names (Ulfrik for instance, all the names ending with -gerd or -gurd or -geir), and some are even still in use in modern day Norwegian (such as Sigrid, Dorthe etc.) - seems like they did a decent research.

I've actually experienced some racism over being a high elf. :P

The guards in Helgen were easy enough.

That's basically what I do aswell. Just that I have the spare time every other day to do nothing but gaming... my social life is pretty much limited to work and the evenings/nights due to... work.

Anyways, on my constant exploring (I can spend hours just inside ONE house) I've read a dozen of books, at least, and thus learned a lot more about the history of Tamriel and some of the former wars and constellations etc., I've also figured out some books give you skills. I've gotten "Illusion" and "Speech" from books this far.

And there's plenty more books to level skills with. But it aint random at all. Certain books allow to level according skills. Ever been this way in TES and ever will be.

Without spoiling too much: Save the money and play on, you'll get the chance to recruit companions for free (as in friends/housecarls) very soon.

I've stumbled across 4 random (nameless) dragons and 3 storyline (named) dragons thus far. The one at Helgen is Alduin, the Eater of Worlds. The uberdragon so to say and most likely final boss. You come across him every now and then without fighting him but I feel like sooner or later (as in down the main storyline) you have to face him.

No need to slay a mammoth to get a tusk for free. I did the same side-mission and got mine while doing another side-mission in one of the caves I think. Furthermore, I'm level 13ish and the giants onehit me to death errtime...

Not seen the Aurora yet. It rains ALL THE TIME during the night here. Seriously.

Everytime I see them I'm on high ground. High Hrothar where the Greybeards live is the best place IMHO, but every mountain does the trick pretty well.

Like I said already, the game feels like playing an old nordish/scandinavian/viking/scaldic (fairy)tale. Heck, there's even an important historical book about Skyrim called Edda. I doubt there's any more important piece of written history documenting myths and mythologies of the North than the Snorra-Edda in real life.

I've actually experienced some racism over being a high elf. :P

Feel lucky you're no Argonian or Dark Elve... I've witnessed even death threats against the latter

Now even this might sound random and idiotic, I am already wondering where TES:6 will take place... I hope it'll be Elsweyr

And something I can't understand, stumbled over someone complaining about how "small" Skyrim is and how he (I suppose it was a guy), as a long time TES player - especially oblivion - was hoping for a world even bigger than Cyrodiil to explore in Skyrim.

Like... seriously. Long time TES player. Hoping Skyrim to be bigger than Cyrodill... Either a troll or to stupid to realize on a map of Tamriel that Skyrim is WAY smaller than Cyrodill. The internet amazes me anew every day

It might be smaller, but it's so dense compared to Oblivion's map. By that I mean everywhere you look, there's always something nicely hidden in a corner of the map or whatever... it's just got so much more variety than Cyrodiil ever did. In that sense, Skyrim is much bigger, even though it may be smaller in land area, it certainly doesn't feel like it.

Although I must say that I consider Cyrodiil rather dense already. But you're right, Skyrim is much more detailed and vivid than Oblivion was and this adds much more to the atmosphere than vast landscapes.

But not long ago I stumbled over a landscape mod that really changed Cyrodiil for the better. Overhauled pretty much every aspect but still keeping things where they belong.

Speaking of oblivion, it's nice to see some of the NPCs from Oblivion back in Skyrim. Just stumbled over M'aiq the Liar yesterday somehwere round Whiterun I think, a Khajiit in monks robes already acting to his name in Oblivion.
