I Think This Might Be A Problem [Solved]

I started my game today, and then I heard a lot of noise and this came out of my disk drive:

As you can see, my SC4 disk is broken.

And my questions are:

- is it possible to play the game with disk 1

- is it possible to play the game without a disk (like a no cd crack)

- is a downloaded version exactly the same as the CD-version (I once read some mods or downloads did't work on downloaded versions of the game)

- is the only option to buy a new copy of the game

- is there some other (free) way to get my game working again

I hope someone can help me.

Not as far as I know, so probably not.

The discussion of no-CD cracks are forbidden if you wish to continue being a member of this site. Although you could buy it off Steam, which is perfectly legal, and doesn't require a CD.

I am pretty sure it is exactly the same if you download it from Steam, and as far as I know all mods work with it.

To the best of my knowledge, yes.

I don't know of any, so I think not.

You may have read something about the game patches not working on the Steam version. As it turns out, the Steam version includes all patches, so they would not need to be applied.

No doubt it comes with installation instructions. Since the operating instructions are different, you'll probably have to install it.

Under the circumstances, save your C:\documents\user\SimCity 4 directory and put it back after the install, or at least the regions and plugins.

Since the steam version comes pre-patched to build 640, everything should be tickety-boo. You then have the advantage of not needing the CD in the drive.

BTW, was your drive damaged?

Did the disc drive do that to the disc or was the disc already cracked?

Games that you download from steam require the steam software to be running whenever you run the game so you will need to install the newly downloaded one,the disc version will not work with it.

I think the Deluxe Edition can be played with disc 1,couldn't hurt to try it though.

I got a version from Steam, and after a little searching I found everything I needed to get my game working exactly as it did before (except that I can't disable the intro with the shortcut).

make sure there is one space before the - in -intro:off
