hi fellow Mac Users,

There are several nifty-looking road and rail bridges made for NAM out there, and I have DL'd them. But. I can't make them appear in the game. I am supposed to put them in the NAM's "Additional Bridges Folder". O...K... But I don't have an "Additional Bridges" folder, just a .dat named "Additional bridges".

Putting them in the NAM folders (NAM or NAM Essentials) doesn't work.

So, what should/can I do ? How do I get those bridges to appear in my cities ?

How did you install the NAM? I'd assume as a Mac user you did the manual install, in which case you must have overlooked that folder. If that's the case, you should just simply be able to create a new folder and name it Additional Bridges, as all that is in that folder is a txt file telling you to put your additional bridges in this folder. If that doesn't work you probably have an old bridge controller file conflicting with the NAM.

er... I have the latest version of both NAM & NAM Essentials ; and NO FOLDERS WHATSOEVER on dezip. As I said, only a .dat named "Additional Bridges". But I will follow your advice and see what happens --- and keep you posted ! Thank you.

if you download the latest NAM version (29) for mac the first folder should be additional bridges. You can download it on sc4devotion.com

The latest version is available here on the STEX, too.

NAM Essentials, despite what the name might lead you to believe, is, most of the time, completely non-essential. The controller builds currently contained in it are the exact same as in NAM Version 29, and you're basically downloading duplicate files. (We're discussing changing the name of it, in fact, since this is a common confusion.)

Ennedi's mod is strictly limited to adjusting the Network Tuning Parameter Exemplars, and does not include a conflicting bridge controller, so it wouldn't be the source of any issues of this sort. The Kwanyoni Bridge was released in May 2007, and the fact that it's not showing up would indicate that you may have a conflicting Bridge Controller file dating prior to that residing in your Plugins.

The versions of fukuda's Akashi-Kaikyo Bridge, Metal Arch Rail Bridge, Metal Pylon Rail Bridge, and Millau Viaduct that were uploaded to the STEX in 2006, and were available there until their removal in 2010, contain Bridge Controller files of that vintage merged into the actual .dat file for those bridges, and would prevent any bridge made in the past 5 years from showing up. Check for those, as they may be the culprit.

Versions of fukuda's bridges that have the conflicting Bridge Controller files removed are available on the LEX under the NAM Team account.

    Hope that helps!

    yep, I realized that !

Oh good ! Because I really like that mod !

ah-HA. I'll check.I know I have the first one stashed in my Plugins Cornucopia, but I don't think any of those are in my current plugins folder, though...

Versions of fukuda's bridges that have the conflicting Bridge Controller files removed are available on the LEX under the NAM Team account.

good to know, thank you !

    Hope that helps!

It helps immensely to begin to understand what the problem may be !!!

I checked. None of them are in my plugin folder. What I currently have :

    RVT Rail Viaducts v1

Glenni eyecandy Bridges and the tweaks Paeng made of those to go with PEG's MTP (shouldn't have any effect on NAM stuff ?!?)

JS Rail Trestles Brownstone & concrete

    and the Kwanyoni bridge....

    I am completely befuddled 46.gif

Given that, it seems that there must be some sort of outdated Bridge Controller file in there somewhere from some source other than fukuda's old bridges. Just what source, I'm not really certain. ebina posted thisawhile back on SC4D about finding conflicting NAM Controller and Bridge Controller files using the Reader's Plugin Analyzer functionality--that may be of use.

OK, could you hazard a suggestion as to which other stuff than NAM bridges and NAM-NAM might have outdated Bridge Controllers ? How would it be named ? I'd go on the hunt....

As for ebina's very detailed and certainly useful advice : but... but... but... I'm on a MAc (tearing hair, foaming at the mouth).

I mean, I was under the impression that the Reader is Windows-Only....Gah, was I mistaken ?

BTW, I checked nevertheless : I have only the RH controller in my NAM folder. As for the rest, well.. see above :-(

I'll just chuck in a few quick comments...

Im guessing your going to have to sift through all of your plugins to find out what one is effecting it, and this is not just looking at names, because they don't always give away what is actually inside them.

Firstly, make sure its not a corrupted nam or bridges first, take out all other plugins except for the nam and the bridges, put them in a separate folder (preferably on the desktop so they don't have a chance to mix the results) see if they work then. If they don't, then re-download the files, both nam and the bridges. If it does work, then there is a conflict. What you should do if they do work, is split up all the files you removed from your plugins into quarters, move a quarter into a new folder, a quarter into another, and so on. Then, drag one of those folders into the plugins. You should have a folder of a quarter of all your plugins, the nam and the bridges in your plugins now. Run sim city, if it works, then the files in that folder are not conflicting, remove the folder and place it in a folder that you know will only have files that work inside of it, move onto the next folder. When you come along a folder that doesn't work, you will need to remove that folder, and split that up into quarters and then repeat the same process. You may have to split up these folders several times depending on the size of your plugins. You should eventually get down to a folder with only one item inside of it, if this stops the bridges from loading, then you have found the conflicting file. Place all of the other plugins back into your plugins folder, then it should work. If it still doesn't, then you may have had more than one conflicting file, and you should start the whole process again. If it works, congratulations, everything should be fine now.

As for ebina's very detailed and certainly useful advice : but... but... but... I'm on a MAc (tearing hair, foaming at the mouth).

Nope, I'm sorry to say, still for windows.

Yes I know the whole process well, had to apply it a few times before, and was lucky : got the culprits almost right away ; but I have more than 1 G of plugins in my Rural & Smalltown theme and... well, I was hoping they're might be an end run around it, but there is none, of course.

Ah. Simcity is a hard-hearted lover....

Thanks you for the advice & help, everybody ! I'll keep you posted, if only to spare another poor soul the same problem (if indeed I manage to find what it is !)

Well, I was lucky, it went quite fast -- my plugins are arranged in folders/subfolders, I took one out at a time. As I suspected it was in the NAM additional bridges folder, bridges themselves , actually (but I still went through the whole process ; like, penance, or something !)

    so :

    NAM_Krummbach Road Bridge

...... hmmm, come to think of it, I never saw that one either... One more try... Back in a sec.

    [back]

Nah, that one doesn't appear at all.

    so

    NAM Rural_Street_and_Rail_Bridge

    and

    NAM Old_Road_Bridge Jeronij

are most certainly what kept CSX_Kwanyoni Bridge from appearing ; no bridge controller in either of them, only a "networkaddonmod [nameof the bridge].dat, but I assume the faulty controller is bundled up in there...

Is there any way this could be fixed ?
