I am pleased to present:
 Page 4

This city journal keeps getting more and more impressive!  The amount of work and detail you put into this is staggering!  The artwork is beautiful, the little details you add into your cities such as the flags, ect.  I love your different national flags, very creative and they look like they could really be a nations flag!  The historic work on this journal is magnificent!  This is a very well done, well organized, well written, creative journal!!  Wonderful work!  I await more excellent updates.  44.gif  44.gif

Thanks for all the replies everyone! It really makes updating worth while! 44.gif

As you know, there were some image problems with Chaumont.. Fortunately I've managed to fix them today thanks to the help of Shadow_Assassin, who adviced me to move my images to ImgCity.net.. I've done this, and from what I can tell, the previous problems with my image hosting now seem to be fixed.. Therefore, this new update is dedicated to Shadow_Assassin, who kindly helped out a fellow City Journal owner in times of trouble.. Thanks SA! 44.gif

As before, I'll once again go into the personal replies before going to the update itself..

    Traffic_Jam: Thanks! Spectacular comment! 2.gif44.gif

Shadow_Assassin: I have not yet received an embassy notice from Dynasty, but I'd love to have on in Mont Napoleon.. The more CJ's represented in Chaumont, the better! All I'll need is a flag so I can create the embassy myself or, if you've already created a custom embassy, I'd be glad to take that off your hands!

Dupontfan24: Thanks for your comment! And guess what? The update you wanted is here! 2.gif

Sirgeoj2: Thanks for introducing page 4, Sirgeoj2! How quickly the pages fly by.. Thanks for all your comments.. They're all very flattering.. 43.gif As for those nations flags: Chaumont only has one, which you see in almost every update, whereas the other ones are posted here for me to use in custom embassies I plan to create for the various City Journals that would like to be represented in Chaumont.. I definitely can't take credit for Pipishere's, Jerebannus' and Gurggkud's work.. But I'm sure they appreciate your compliment! 9.gif

Pipishere: Thanks for reserving a plot for Chaumont's embassy in Cordovia.. The Emperor will dispatch investigators immediately to evict whatever unfortunate family from their mansion to make room for the Cordovian embassy.. 11.gif Thanks for the flag by the way.. I already had the smaller version, but this bigger one will be even better! 9.gif

Chaumont is a nuclear power. How do you ask? Well, I'll explain..

Chaumont is a sometimes referred to as a rogue nation. Why? Well, it's ruled by an Emperor that controls all aspects of the country, there's an all-powerful military that keeps all forms of protest under wraps and it has advanced nuclear capabilities..

Whenever anyone mentions that Chaumont has an undisclosed amount of Inter-Continental Ballistic Missilies, people start asking how it is possible that such a small country has these weapons of mass destruction..

France has always had a close relationship with Chaumont. While that relationship isn't close enough for an exchange of nuclear secrets between the two countries, there are plenty of Chaumontian agents walking around the streets of France, acting as genuine Frenchmen, while their hearts lie with the Emperor and the Empire. Chaumont, over the years, has succesfully infiltrated the French nuclear program and has stolen billions of dollars worth of plans, schematics and other systems to succesfully construct Chaumont's nuclear program..

The Emperor has pledged never to use these horrible weapons, unless the Empire itself is under direct foreign threat. Should the Imperial Government be overthrown, the weapons will not be used on Chaumontian soil, as the Emperor would rather see his country in the hands of lesser men than blown to a glowing heap of rubble..

    montratier2.jpg

This is the quiet mountain town of Montratier. Most of the town's inhabitants work in the surrounding farmland and industry, or in the nearby airbase. If any of them would know about the terrible threat that surrounds them, they'd think twice about living in this quiet little town..

    chaumontianfarms3.jpg
Ah yes.. Smell that manure.. Country air.. Hmm..

    chaumontianfactories4.jpg
*cough* *cough* One of Chaumont's many small patches of industry..

    montratierairforcebase5.jpg
An overview shot of the Montratier Airforce Base.

The Montratier Airforce Base was built in the late 60's and serves to protect the north-western section of the Empire. There are multiple take-offs a day, mostly to scan the countryside for suspicious activity and to track the whereabouts of known dissidents. On occassion, the jets fly over the homes of communists and other critics of the Emperor.. For no other reason than to scare the living daylights out of 'em.. Yeah.. It's hard being the voice of reason in Chaumont..

    airforcebasecloseup1.jpg
Major Sean McDuff prepares to take off from Montratier, on a mission of critical importance to the survival of the Empire, also known as a so-called 'Wake-up Call mission'. Some poor dissident is going to be stuck to the floor today..

The town of Montratier is situated against Mont Tratier, a steep mountain with a giant forest growing around each and every piece of rock it can find. The inhabitants of the town know the top of the mountain is off limits to unauthorized individuals and they're aware of the two roads on the other side of the mountain tunnel, but no-one has ever dared to go up there. The sign by the road is quite specific: 'Any unauthorized individuals who travel further up the hill than this point will be shot. Enter at your own risk'.

    tunnelentrance2.jpg
The townside tunnel entrance into Mont Tratier.

The following pictures are not really supposed to be put on the Internet, but due to some giant stroke of luck, I've managed to obtain them and feel it is my responsibility to show them to you..

    montratierlisteningpost3.jpg

On the western side of the top of Mont Tratier there's a giant Listening Post. The base has several large dishes that probe the Atlantic Ocean and the surrounding land in the United States for any type of activity that might indicate a so-called pre-emptive strike against the Empire..

The eastern part of Mont Tratier hides one of Chaumont's most precious secret military installations. The main Chaumontian ICBM complex is located in a small valley in the top of the mountain and is heavily protected to prevent any type of intrusion. The surrounding forest is constantly patrolled and the complex itself is surrounded by powerful electrified fence. Rumours suggest that a brush against this fence could reduce a full grown man to a small heap of smoking ash..

An overview shot of the Montratier ICBM complex.

    montratiericbmbasecloseup5.jpg
A close-up shot of the same complex.

Sleep is considered to be a dirty word among the residents of these two bases and the soldiers consider it to be a bad idea to tell their wife or husband where they really work. In short, no-one knows of these bases and they never sleep.. Comforting, or what?

    afterhours1.jpg
    Working deep into the night..

That's it from me for today! I'll start preparing the next installment of Chaumont, but first there are some other projects that might require my attention, including one that you will be hearing from in the next few days.. (But not here.. You'll hear about it somewhere else.. 9.gif) Cheers, and thanks again for your comments!

Love the Keep out or die attitude of Chaumont.  Cool posts on the navy (page 3) and the local nuclear ordnance.

    Keep up the great work.

Thanks for the replies everyone! I'm running out of ways to say how much I appreciate them, but know that I definitely do! 9.gif
As before, I'll go on to personal replies and follow with a small update on a developing situation..
(This will be the 100th reply in this topic and my 100th post on Simtropolis by the way.. W00T! 39.gif)

    Personal replies:

Meinhosen: Thanks for your comment, Meinhosen! As for the keep out or die attitude, well, that's the only way the internal security of the Empire can be maintained.. When I do an update on the Imperial Police and Justice System, you'll find that Chaumont has one of the lowest crime rates in the world.. Can you guess why? 9.gif

Jerebannus XVI: Thanks for your comment! Glad you managed to pick up your jaw.. 17.gif And making the custom lots and stuff is exactly what makes maintaining and keeping up this region so much fun..

Jasperdeman.nl: Chaumont peaceful? Who gave you that preposterous idea!? 18.gif The ICBM (Inter-continental Ballistic Missile) base at Montereau is Chaumont's protection from any states that might think it's a good idea to oust the Imperial Government.. As you will see, Chaumont will benefit from her nuclear arsenal now more than ever.. Just watch the update.. 9.gif I see Dupontfan24 has already answered your question, so I hope you'll enjoy the Dish..

Pipishere: Ah, well.. Now there's a compliment! Chaumont likes to refer to itself as one of the world's superpowers, but that is usually laughed at very loudly by the other nations.. No-one knows why exactly, but if they'd realize how powerful Chaumont really is that laughter would quickly turn to begging not to attack them.. MUHUHAHAHA.. *Maniacal laughter continues..*

Dupontfan24: Thanks for your comment and thanks for pointing Jasperdeman.nl to the right file!

Kwakelaar: Thanks for your comment, Kwakelaar.. Oh, and I downloaded your church, so with a little luck you'll be seeing it in Chaumont somewhere soon!

Alright.. That's it as far as personal replies are concerned.. On to the small update..

    IT-PaxAmericana2.jpg

Chaumont has not joined the Pax Americana treaty, so it is not a part of the country of Pax Americana. No, the island on which the Chaumontian colony lies was always considered to be a part of Pax Americana, but it was also seen as worthless in terms of recources. Because of this, no interest was taken in the island whatsoever until recently. The situation that has developed in Pax Americana is starting to heat up and could lead to armed conflict in the future.. It will definitely provide for some interesting storylines.. So stay in touch with Chaumont and Pax Americana and you'll hear both sides of the story.. (More on this situation at the Pax Americana Thread ..)

That's it.. I know it's tiny, but there's a lot to be done and I've bought Rome: Total War yesterday and it has taken me under it's spell.. a>

I just read through your City Journal.  I like the alternate history story line.  Very creative. 44.gif.  Also the screen shots of Chaumont are impressive.  I like your attention to detail.  Keep up the good work and looking forward to the next update.

Low crime rate?  I'm very jealous.  Can't say the same for my own cities... but hey, they're designed to have high crime, so I guess I shouldn't complain.

    EDIT
Great work on that newspaper article.

Thanks for the replies everyone! I have not really had the time to do a lot of work on Simcity lately, since I've just discovered Rome: Total War and I have to prepare for the start of school next monday.. Safe to say, things might slow down a bit, but I hope that I'll be able to keep feeding constant updates every weekend or so..

For now, there's another newspaper article on the Chaumont - Pax Americana situation.. I hope you'll enjoy it!

    Personal comments:

Sloppet, Pipishere, Sharkbait16: Thanks for your comments!

Prophet42: Reading through the entire City Journal must've taken you quite some time! Thanks for doing that and thanks for commenting!

Jerebannus XVI: Ah.. Thanks for the comment and the offer.. And there's definitely something in the newspaper directed at you.. 9.gif

Meinhosen: Design your cities for high crime rates? Well, to each his own, I guess.. 18.gif I have to admit that even the slums in Simcity 4 look pretty good.. 9.gif

Pepsi71ocean: Thanks for your comment.. Your offer sounds tempting, but a bit overwhelming as well.. I look forward to seeing your City Journal about this region!

Sirgeoj2: Thanks for your comment.. And as long as your territory in Pax Americana isn't too close to Malcheveux, you're clear from danger.. 9.gif But beware.. Any more aggression and Chaumont will expose it's teeth! 9.gif

Anyway, without further ado.. Here's is the front page of today's Imperial Times..

Anyway, Jarno: great newspaper update, I loved the photo's and how you edited them to make it look like a real paper. You are quite talented!

Kumba: the Mithra?, it sure looks like the BB-62 U.S.S New Jersey, docked in camden New Jersey. Very good idea to use that picture (the picture doesn't do the ship justice, it's HUGE in real life, I've been there and the ship is awsome, it's the largest battleship ever built.)
