Excellent micro-terraforming work. I like how you have constructed your rail lines.

Jardomediena! Your whole CJ is probably the most realistic and most beautiful on all of Simtropolis. I mean it sincerely. I was wondering, in the update before the last one in the pic where there is a barn house and some diagonal streets. What specific farming packs do you use? Thanx. Your work is truly marvelous. GO Chaumont!

WELCOME TO PAGE 18 OF THE EMPIRE OF CHAUMONT! LONG LIVE CHAUMONT!

Sorry for not being able to comment sooner, I have been so unbelievably busy, Splendid work thus far Jarno. Love the tram Livery, really adds to that oppresive un-democratic feel!18.gif

Date: 12/3/2005 9:41:38 AM Author: Goldfish4209 44.gif Are those rails raised or sunken? I can't tell.
quote>

I think the rails are raised, because I saw a road go under them at one point.

I like the town, I think it looks like a real town that you could visit somewhere.

A short and quite stunning update.... I love the enhancing effort of each pic... The town looks quiet a splendid and a nice place to do some shopping...

The warm feel of each pic is wonderful..It adds serenity to it...

One question though.. Where did you get those fences that line around the fences?...
Thank you for giving me the Link to the tuatorial... I'll be using it in my cj...

I look forward to more... 44.gif

Just brilliant work with your last update, the infrastructure (railways, roads, bridges and tunnels) are well made. I could really use some of your talent for that in my own cities. The farms also look good, you have even been able to make them on the diagonal along the road, great!!

Your skills for making the presentations are among the best here on Simtrop, (also a bit a personal preference as I very much like the stronger and cleaner colors that you are using).
This CJ has just the perfect mix of story and images, it is easy to follow and the personal replies are always much appreciated.

Thank you for this great updates Jarno!

Very nice mosaic. Great use of budbuddy's bridge and of course Marrast's embankment! Nice to see you also experimented with the underwater bridge. This CJ must have taken quite long to build I guess even when you have such great tutors here at Simtropolis.

I like the way the trainstation is set up, it's kinda squeezed in between those buildings. What is that building next to the station with the pilars?
I also like the way the railroad tracks turned out, from a distance you hardly notice the disturbing zig/zag pattern (or is this too much Dutch?), it looks like the shade of the trees.

Congrats with your new header. It looks very cool! 29.gif

Looking forward to more...

Thank you all so much for replying, everyone! 44.gif

It's time to party! Chaumont has had more than 500 replies, 18 pages, almost 25.000 views and I recently posted my 300th post here on Simtropolis! More than enough reasons to celebrate, I'd say!

In honor of this occassion, I've been working on a Table of Contents for Chaumont.. The last one I made was on page 8 and, as we all know, a lot has happened since then! So, it's long overdue and this was the perfect time to present it, so here it is!

When you move your mouse over the pages, they will link to the appropriate page for easy viewing and access! Thanks for visiting Chaumont and thanks again for replying! I will respond to your replies below this image!

    Personal Replies:

NicolaiS: Thanks for your comment, NicolaiS, as for your question about Malmaison, you're absolutely right! 29.gif How did you know that?

Fischbob: Thank you for your comment, Fischbob!

Goldfish4209: As Leech10 wrote, the railways are raised.. I was working on another overpass when I suddenly thought: Hey, what if I raise the railways entirely? and so I did.. I've been using this method in other towns as well, because I really like it! Thanks for your comment!

Simen: Lol.. Thank you for leaving a comment! I'd better keep running from the law then, because I intend to continue and perfect! 38.gif lol..

Jerebannus XVI: Thanks for your comment, Phil! The haunted store was just something I came up with while I was writing the commentary on the pictures.. And you're welcome! 16.gif

Knarfmo: Thank you for your comment, Knarfmo!

MishaTennis: Thanks for leaving a comment, MishaTennis! (You did misspell my name though.. 9.gif I had a good laugh at that.. No offense meant.. 2.gif) As for your question, I use the farm packs by JMyers and the regular in-game farms.. You can the farm packs here ..

ElmarO: Thanks for your comment, ElmarO! Expect more soon!

6Underground: Don't worry about not commenting sooner, 6U.. I know exactly how busy you are with Jurassic Park, so your offense is forgiven.. 3.gif Thanks for leaving a comment!

Leech10: Thank you for your comment, Leech10! Also, thanks for replying to Goldfish4209, you were right.. As for the town, I usually build it in such a way where I'd think: Could I live here? Most of the time the answer is 'yes', but whenever I think 'maybe' or 'no', I redesign it in such a way until I think 'yes'.. (If that makes any sense.. 18.gif)

Mr Piggy: Thanks for your comment, Mr Piggy! I'm not sure what you meant by your question, but if you're talking about the fences around the farms, those are Suico's Farm Fences, which you can find here ..

Pepsi71Ocean: Thank you for leaving a comment!

Kwakelaar: Thanks so much for your comment, Kwakelaar! You almost made me blush.. 43.gif

Nik-nik: Thanks for your comment, Nik-nik! If you thought the tunnel in this update was interesting, check the previous region views.. There's a much more spectacular tunnel somewhere that might show up in a future update.. 48.gif You're right about Chaumont taking a lot of time.. But, as far as I'm concerned, the comments I receive make it all worthwhile.. 19.gif The building with the pillars is Simgoober's Northern Trust Bank.. (Simgoober is one of the best BATters here.. I think all of his buildings are present in Chaumont somewhere..) You can find the building here .. Thanks again for your comment!

That's all for today! I'll be working on showing off Guillaume in the coming days, so expect another update soon!

Thank you for the link. I got it already but with the pace I am playing (1-2 hours a week) it takes loooooong to grow so I have not seen it in action before.

Thanks for the table of contents, especially towards the tutorial it is handy. Maybe you can Edit your first page and place it there, it is much easier to find in that way at least when you've got 18 pages more ond 50.000 views!

Great looking and also functional table of content jarno 44.gif

How I know about Malmaison? I studied history in college and after those years I kept reading a lot of historians to keep up with new points of view. I developed an interest in Napoleon after I visited his tomb in Paris ... reading books about the revolution and his life is a true joy and thats how I learned about Malmaison.

Hey all! I don't have much time to post today's update, so this is going to be a short one in terms of the amount of text that accompagnies the images and I might not even be able to reply to your comments..

EDIT: Well, with a little luck, I might just make it with the personal replies.. Fingers crossed..

    Personal Replies:

Mr Piggy: Lol.. Well, glad to hear you enjoyed yourself at the party! Thanks for your comment!

Mike_Oxlong: Thanks for supporting the empire, Mike_Oxlong.. I'm glad to hear you like the Table of Contents! It was a lot of work, but worth it in the end..

Nik-nik: (You can see the same building again today! 9.gif) Thanks for your advice! I edited the first page and included this new Table of Contents image.. Once there are a few more pages I will make a new one.. For now, thanks for your comment!

NicolaiS: Wow.. Glad to hear there's a fellow historian here on Simtropolis! Now I have to be extra careful with what I write! 2.gif Have you seen the mini-series 'Napoleon'? It's been on TV here in Europe and I thought it was absolutely amazing! (Check this link to the series at IMDB.) Anyway, thanks for your comment!

Frogface: Wow.. Thanks for paying a visit to Chaumont, Frogface! Thanks even more for commenting! I'm glad to hear you liked it up to page 8.. What did you think of the pages upwards from that point? The real fun started at page 9! 9.gif

Sharkbait16: Thanks for your comment, Sharkbait16!

Inquisitor: Welcome to Chaumont, Inquisitor! I'm glad to hear you've liked Chaumont so far! Thanks for your comment!

Phew.. Made it.. Let's get straight to the update, shall we?

    Update23.jpg

Yes, you guessed it.. There are going to be plenty of Mosaics in today's update and what's more: mosaics of Mont Napoleon, perhaps the most beautiful city in the Empire! I hope you enjoy your visit!

    MontNap-Mosaic1-1.jpg
    MontNap-Mosaic1-2.jpg
    MontNap-Mosaic1-3.jpg
    MontNap-Mosaic1-4.jpg
    MontNap-Mosaic1-5.jpg

This residential neighbourhood in Mont Napoleon was built in the early begininning of the twentieth century. The most prominent building here is the Roosevelt Apartment Building. Originally built to accommodate the low wealth citizens of Mont Napoleon who worked in the nearby docks and factories, it transformed into one of the most beautiful spots to live in the capital, with the help of several renovations ofcourse..

As you can see, there's a slight mix of styles here that we haven't seen before: old Imperial style wall to wall neighbourhoods and slightly larger, brick apartment buildings. Another feature that will be clearly visible in upcoming updates are the roadtop mass transit lots I installed some time ago.. And almost all the way down in this mosaic you can see the new design for the trains of the Passenger Rail department of the Imperial Rail Company, which is meant to conform with the designs of busses, trams and monorails around the Empire..

    MontNap-Mosaic2-1.jpg
    MontNap-Mosaic2-2.jpg
    MontNap-Mosaic2-3.jpg
    MontNap-Mosaic2-4.jpg
    MontNap-Mosaic2-5.jpg

This second mosaic takes up past the Embassy district, where we can see the main tramline of Mont Napoleon passing by the capital's many rowhouses and near the headquarters of the Imperial Party are the empty execution squares. People are already debating at length wether the suspects of the recent bombing will be visiting these squares up close and personal..

    MontNap-Mosaic3-1.jpg
    MontNap-Mosaic3-2.jpg
    MontNap-Mosaic3-3.jpg

In this smaller third mosaic we take a little trip outside of the citadel into the neighbourhoods that lie on the outskirts of the city. Further down, we come across one of the many hotels near the Airport. This one, the Mont Napoleon Omni Hotel is popular with middle class tourists and visitors and provides a wonderful view of the nearby railroads, the highway and the lovely, typically Chaumontian residential areas..

    MontNap-Mosaic4-1.jpg
    MontNap-Mosaic4-2.jpg
    MontNap-Mosaic4-3.jpg
    MontNap-Mosaic4-4.jpg

In this fourth and last mosaic we can see some residential neighbourhoods near Mont Napoleon Central Station, the Japanese Embassy near the Convention Centre, the Lower Battery College, Emperor Julien II High School, the Imperial Military Medical Centre, an establishment of Ruby Tuesday and ofcourse, dominating the skyline, the Headquarters of the Imperial Secret Police..

From now on, there will be a few random shots of the Capital, including some night shots!

    MontNapoleon1.jpg

Some people refer to this former bastion of the Mont Napoleon fortress as the Party Fort. You, your kids, your wife and even grandma and grandpa can have a good time. Send the kids to the zoo, give grandma and grandpa an exclusive treatment at the Mont Napoleon Health Spa, your wife can go celebrity spotting at the Mont Napoleon Propaganda Studios or shopping at the 'Capitalist Church', one of the larger malls in the capital and in the mean time, you enjoy a bit of tennis, swimming, mini-golf or one of the many, many other activities you can take part in..

    MontNapoleon2.jpg

This is the corner of Cambronne and Gefaix, one of the busiest intersections during rush hour. At the moment things appear to have quieted down, but you should've seen it at 8 o' clock this morning! It was not pretty..

    MontNapoleon4.jpg

The roundabouts are popular with City Council members, other politicians, pedestrians and cyclists, but most motorists abhore them..

    MontNapoleon5.jpg

The Roosevelt Apartments, up close and at night.. Can you imagine the view from one of those windows? Now you know why it's so popular with the hip Chaumontian middle class..

    MontNapoleon6.jpg

Further down the road from the Roosevelt Apartments, we see the back entrances of the Mont Napoleon Four Seasons Hotel and the parking garage and back facade of the Offices of Trump, Trump and Trump, Real Estate Agents. At this time of night, there are actually still people working there in fear of being fired by one of their maniacal bosses..

We end today's update with a lovely view:

    MontNapoleon3.jpg

It's almost Christmas here in Mont Napoleon! Can't you just hear people whistling Jingle Bells, kids screaming at their parents to get them a certain toy, Santa's helpers collecting money for underprivileged children.. Sigh..

That's it from me.. I hope you've enjoyed this 23rd update of Chaumont!

    Hi Jarno,

Yet again a great update of a fantastic CJ. Don't worry about historic correctness, I am also a avid reader of alternative history and I have added your cj to my to read list.

I have not only seen the Napoleon series, I have bought them on DVD. Well worth watching multiple times. The emperor is one of my favorite Historic figures and I should really read more about him ... lack of time is always an issue though.

I am looking forward to your next update.

    Cheers,

    Nic.
