SimFox Day 'N Nite Mod Mac Compatibility

I want to make my cities more realistic

I read on this forum that overall, SimFox's Day 'N Nite Modd (AKA DarkNite Modd) was, overall, compatible with SimCity 4 for Mac,

however

I installed the modd and opened the program. It loaded fine, the city's map loaded fine, I could move around the city fine, however when I tried to plop anything (highway, buildings, even zones) the game would crash.

Any suggestions? Thanks for any help

I would suggest that you remove the Day 'N Nite mod and see if that stops the crashes, because it could just be a coincidence that the game started crashing around the time that you installed the mod.

If it stops crashing then redownload the mod and try it again.

If it crashes after that then there must be a conflicting plugin. I would then suggest that you first move all of the files out of your plugins folder and leave in just the Day 'N Nite mod. If that still crashes then it has something to do with the file and I would contact Simfox and ask him about it. If it doesn't then I would slowly start adding files back into the plugins folder, maybe 10 at a time (or less if you don't have that much), once you add 10, load the game and see if it still crashes. If it didn't crash then create a new folder in your plugins folder and temporarily move the 10 just added into there. Keep on doing this until it crashes again. When it crashes, take out a file from the 10 you just added, if it crashes then the file you took out is safe, that can go into the folder in the plugins folder along with all of the safe files. When you take out a file and it stops crashing then you have found the conflicting file. Delete that file, or remove it from your plugins folder so that you can use the Day 'N Nite mod.

It sounds like a lot to do, but its not that hard once you start getting on a roll.

I did what you said, and determined it was the SimFox Day 'N Nite mod alone.

Hasnt Simfox been banned? If so getting him to fix a potentially dodgy plugin may be hard.

The plugin is fine, I am able to run it without any problems, so too can thousands of others. There are just a few problems that arise, either the download doesn't quite work first time round, which sounds silly, but thats been a problem for me on numerous occasions, or there might be one file not installed correctly that needs to be in there.

I have the same problem. This mod crashes whenever I switch from God mode to Mayor mode. The only way I've been able to get it not to crash is to set the program to Pause before switching to Mayor mode. As long as the game is paused, the plug-in works just fine. But the second I start the game running, I get the beachball of death, even with all other mods and plugins removed.

While I think that this mod looks a little better, it's no good to me if I can't run it during the game due to crashing. Gizmo's day/night mod works fine with the game running so I'm going with it.

BTW, I had a heckuva time finding any mods anywhere from Gizmo, so for anyone who's interested, here's his latest site as of 4/2014:

I have the same issue on my 2012 15" macbook pro. Every time I switch to mayor mode, my game freezes and I have to force quit. Its a shame because it seems like every mod I want to download requires it as a dependency. It downloads as a .dat file,, and file juicer doesn't really do anything when I drag the file into it. Hamish, or anyone that may know, how can I fix it? Whenever I try to extract it using another program, it opens in MPEG Streamclip and says file not supported and other crap like that. Is there a way I can get it to work, or will Gizmo's mod suffice? I doubt it would, but still, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Most BATs come with both DarkNite and MaxisNite versions, and only the DarkNite versions require the Day 'n' Nite modd as a dependency. :)

However, most of these don't work on the mac because night lights for bats in the mac version don't show up most of the time. There are a small handful of files that do work, and there is an even smaller amount of dark nite compatible files inside of that.

I recommend not using it as a mac user, because it doesn't really help much when you start to use other custom content along side it.
