To avoid clutter in Trolca's, Dearnen's, and my threads, please post your passenger/elevated rail requests here in this thread.  If  you can link to photos instead of uploading them, so much the better - it'll save Dirk money and bandwidth and help keep the site running faster.  I know how to find things on railpictures.net.

I will also post my progress in this first message, and update it as I move along.  Releases will occur in my New Passenger Rail Arrives thread.

My list (in no particular order, except finished items are at the bottom):
* Amtrak Superliner Released in forums.  Being re-worked for STEX to match alterations to Amtrak California. Re-work 75% done
* Amtrak Metroliner Beta released in forms, undergoing ground-up rebuild because I went about it all wrong the first time.  Rebuild done, release imminent.
* LIRR light rail of various kinds
* NJ Transit Early prototype released in this thread. 10% done.
* Los Angeles Metro
* Singapore
* Dallas DART
* Florida TRI-RAIL
* Texas Trinity Express
* LA Metrolink
* Coaster
* Sounder  Original-replacement set released in forums.
* Caltrain Baby Bullet Original-replacement set ready for release.
* Hong Kong
* Chicago L
* Boston T
* GNER
* Amtrak California Updated and released to STEX.
* Washington D.C. Metro Released to STEX.
* Atlanta, GA MARTA Released to STEX.
* GO Transit   Updated and released to STEX.

I am now working on the base models for the various light rail systems, such as DC Metro.

    OK, requests in:

    City of New Orleans: This is an Amtrak Superliner, just like the Empire Builder, Sunset Ltd., California Zephyr and the rest of Amtrak's Western trains.  Shouldn't be a problem; it uses the same car and loco models as the California set.   Just have to move the windows and doors around.  Be aware I can't control which cars appear in trains and in which order, so you might see three diners, two Viewliner lounge cars, and a baggage, with no coach cars anywhere... and commuter trains make more sense in a SimCity context.  But hey, why not?

    EMD E- and F-series locomotives: The streamlined, curved fronts will be a challenge.  The game is designed to make squares, not curves, which is why FP- and GP-series locomotives are so common in trainsets.  I'll study Trolca's tanker cars to see how he does it.  Should be, um, interesting.  If I can do this, Bombardier cars won't be so hard...

    Los Angeles Subway:  Do these run above-ground anywhere?  I've only ridden the red-line between Union Station and Hollyweird, underground the whole way.  I could do them, but you wouldn't see them!  Does the Long Beach line run elevated or surface anywhere?  Let me know, and I'll give it a try.

    D.C. Metro: I'm adding this one, as long as I'm going to do light rail I can't leave the DC Metro out.

    Wow, my plate's getting full fast!

    Would it be too difficult to make a slightly larger engine such as the SD40-2 in the CSX or ATSF scheme?

    Even though they are primarily freight engines they were used on a very limited basis for passenger trains.

    Check out Dearnen's thread,New Railroads Arrive in SimCity.  He has a UP locomotive there.  He also has an SP; since they've merged you could run both and not be out-of-spec.  Interestingly, when I was on the California Zephyr last week, we went through Roseville Yard, and they had several locomotives that were both UP and SP, it looked like they'd welded together several wrecks to make one good loco and never re-painted them!

    I'll take a look at the rest of the req's.

    Man how could I forget about the Cascades Talgo. I rode that once to Vancouver and back, and used to see it occasionally rumble by when I waited for the bus. It's a tall order for SimCity, though, since those finned 1st/last cars and the front/rear engines can't really be done correctly, if at all. Here's a preview picture of that BTW, not much though.

    And, with the new smilies, may I say this about BigRed's work.

    Yeah, that Talgo train is so amazingly cool - a train with TAIL FINS?  Whoodathunkit?  Like you said, those will be a problem.  I'd have no way of ensuring where the finned ones would show up; it would look awful.

    Funny you should mention it though.  Honey and I were just looking for an excuse to ride that one this Summer.

    One thing about it - you'd think as long as they were going to blow their vertical clearance with the fins, that they'd have put a vista-dome car or two in the consist, given the scenery along the route.  49.gif

    I say go for it, and Vancouver is a blast too. I loved the bridges coming into the city. I saw Tomorrow Never Dies on the way up and some crappy movie back. Let's hope you get some good movies.

    Be sure to try to clam chowder if you're hungry. If I remember correctly, it was pretty good.

    By the way, do you live up here in Washington?

    I live in San Francisco proper, Lower Haight district, or Near Alamo Square as the real-estate types say.  Last time I was in Seattle the 'Hawks were still playing in the Kingdome and I didn't even have a chance to see the town since I was up on business and had to hop a bus to Pullman.  Always wanted to go back, it looked nice.

    EDIT: Now, this is more like it:

    Car ends are correct, with brake hoses and running lights, better color, and check out those custom trucks!

    The trucks look great, they really make the car stand out. There's alot of detail over all.

    Did you extend the length or is it the same as the Long Island set I made?

    Glad you like this one, I'm really poring over railfan sites trying to nail the Superliner set - having just ridden one it's fresh in my mind.

    I didn't change the car length - I experimented with doing so, but a true-scale version of the car looked very silly going around turns.  So I just narrowed the details slightly to compensate, and inserted an extra window on the top deck to create the optical illusion of length.  I guess it worked.  1.gif

    I also moved the wheels out toward the end of the car, and raised the car-end doors and the black cowling that you put around them when I did the Amtrak California version, which uses the same basic car body as a Superliner.  They should be interchangeable; I'll have to allow that in the final sets - I've seen Superliner cars mixed into Amtrak California trains, but not vice-versa.  Player's choice, though.

    Finally, NJT and the GO train.45.gif

    I have an 0-27 NJT train. I'll get pictures if you need them. I'll also search the web. My family has GO pictures somewhere, so if you need them, just ask and I will try to find them.

    Smurfer2: It ould be great if you could get some good photos of your NJT set.  Straight-on square shots of the sides and car-ends would be best - I can paste those right on to the model so it looks perfect.

    I know this might sound old but ever since I you made very good trains,I want you to make this
    Front (on the first and last cars)
    img_12931.jpg
    Back(on the second through seventh car)
    img_3612.jpg border=0

    and this

    Front (for the first and last car)

    img_3507.jpg border=0

    Back ( for the second through seventh car)

    img_3421.jpg border=0

    Personally, I wasn't satisfied with the first version but with you skills, I think you can make a better one that I will like.

    If you need more pics, this site will help you http://www.nycsubway.org/index.html , it got more than the NYC subway system if you read the left side (Like around NYC and  World Transit Systems but if you want local, go to Current fleet and retired Fleet) .

    Well, when I looked at it, I didn't like it because it didn't look like the real thing and there was a lot of mistakes that i could locate.

    i tried to make them accurate as possible but of course there are limitations you must understand which made it difficult to get it exactly like it.

    to be honest i dont see the point in big red fish doing these again but its her choice

    I don't mind re-covering old ground if there's a visible improvement to be made by doing it.

    To be fair to Frogface, we have much better tools now than we did even a few months ago - even the latest release of the Reader that came out last week has improved my results.  I have a lot of respect for the people who released working mods a few weeks after Rush Hour hit.

    I'd like to request the Pittsburgh Subway design. I've tried to do some work on it myself but I could never get the modified images to work. Here are some links, in order to save bandwidth:

    These first two pictures show good examples of how the lighting on the cars looks:
    Stopping at Steel Plaza
    Stopping at Gateway Center

    Here is a shot of it running on elevated rail:
    Elevated

    The logo used on the cars, and the reason why many Pittsburghers refer to the subway as The T:
    P.A.T. Logo

    If it's any consequence to the design of the mod, the cars are Siemens SD 400 models. The specifics are here:
    Car Specs.

    Thanks ahead of time to whoever tackles this model.
